The Business Problem.
• What’s The Pain/Problem That You Seek To Solve? – State the big, important problem that the
company is going to solve– Assert the size of the opportunity you have
identified (or the number of people impacted)– For NON-PROFITS, what is the core value (i.e.,
No child should go hungry) and how is this core belief being compromised?
Business Solution & Target Market.
• What Is Your Solution? Who Is Your Target Customer? – State concretely what you will build that solves
the problem.– What is the profile of your target market? – Why are you uniquely qualified to capture the
target market?
How Does Your Business Work?• How will you get your solution to the Market? – How do you make money? How will you FEED
hungry children?– Focus on articulating the non-obvious,
potentially disruptive elements of your strategy–What are the critical hurdles that the
organization faces and how will it address them?–Why will your company be especially profitable?
Why is your NON-PROFIT best suited to solve the problem?
Competition.
• Who else provides a solution and why is yours better? – State clearly and concisely how your solution is
better than what everyone is doing, including the status quo.
– Do your homework on the competition and don’t misrepresent their strengths or their weaknesses.
– State your competitive advantage.
How Much Are You Asking For?
• What will be needed to succeed and how will you and others measure progress? –What are the capital requirements for the
company (For-Profit or Non-Profit)? – Tie the milestones to the key metrics in your
financial projections
Who is On Your Team?
• Who is building your company? – Founders with key and relevant accomplishments
listed–Who is advising the team?–What gives this team an edge?
