I The rapid change between liquid and gas phases causeproblems for water treatment, petroleum production, andspace station facilities.
I Slug formation in pipes leads to rapid changes in pressure andmass flow, which can seriously damage pipelines and causeplant shutdowns. It is difficult to predict slug transitions.
I Presently, complex controls attempt to evade two-phase flow.
I System complexity increases maintenance and functionalitycosts.
