Job Description Job title Director, Strategy and Business Development Team Strategy, Economics and Business Development Band 4 Reporting to The Managing Director for Strategy, Economics and Business Development Management responsibility 3-6 Colleagues Purpose of the job This is an exciting role within the Bank’s Strategy, Economics and Business Development team. The team works across all areas of the Bank on a variety of issues. It leads on the overall strategy for the Bank – owning the business planning process and the negotiations with Government over its funding envelope. The team also coordinates the product development process, working with product teams, Risk, Legal and Finance to ensure the Bank has a clear set of product development priorities and, and also contributes resource to cross-Bank virtual development teams. Main duties The key aspects of the role will involve (but not limited to): Line manage a team of 3 to 6, including taking a lead role in recruiting, setting objectives, mentoring / supporting professional development, and performance management for half year and full year. Be a business development thought leader – cultivate further opportunities for the Bank to achieve its goals, including through active external engagement with, for example, academics, multilateral organisations, other national development banks, other HMG departments, finance technology players, etc. Lead strategic execution – develop and implement new product propositions in collaboration with functional and business unit colleagues, as well as external delivery partners Manage multiple strategy projects in varying stages of development for durations of 3 to 18 months, sometimes with responsibility for team members within each Help translate Government policy priorities into a strategy for the Bank that fits the Bank’s remit and funding envelope, including o Maintaining regular dialogue with policy officials in Government and working to incorporate that input into the Bank’s actions and plans o Managing an effective strategic planning process o Modelling financial performance for business plan General team based structured problem solving, presentation preparation in both Microsoft PowerPoint and Word, and internal / external stakeholder management Knowledge and experience Financial services experience with understanding of how FS balance sheet works, key FS performance drivers, and broad FS product set. Experience in products used by smaller businesses, and the structuring thereof preferred, but not essential.

Relevant & significant work experience from a strategy consulting firm, corporate strategy department of a financial institution, or policy unit of public sector entity;

Strong project manager –experience leading multiple projects and managing multiple senior stakeholders with divergent agendas

Experience attracting, developing and retaining talent including experience line management

Understanding of and interest in how Government departments work preferred

Key competencies/behaviours

Strong commercial sense and demonstrated pragmatism. Ability to work across disciplines within the Bank and with external stakeholders. Ability to build productive working relationships quickly and effectively. Strong professional network across active UK SME lenders valued.

Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively, by advising senior management and other stakeholders in a structured, convincing and concise way. Ability to structure and tailor story lines for stakeholders. Competent with Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

Qualifications

Graduate and MBA from leading programme preferredAdditional / desirable

Right to work in the European Economic Area is essential
