Brethren of the Sudbury Manitoulin District:

I have enjoyed a busy start to the Masonic year with a few visits to lodges and plenty of planning for the new calendar year. We have applied to host a couple of Grand Lodge seminars. Hopefully we will be able to provide at least one, soon to be booked in. We have also begun planning for a Friend 2 Friend night, and will have more information once that is firmed up.

I want to thank those of you who attended the reception in September as well as the brethren who took the time out of their Thanksgiving long weekend to join me at Bethel Lodges official visit. Both evenings were an enjoyable and enthusiastic start to the year.

This month we begin on Monday November 4th with a district meeting at Belrock at 7:00 PM, then our district Veterans Appreciation Night hosted by Espanola Lodge on Friday November 8th. This is an important evening not only for masons of the district but for all Canadians as we are reminded almost daily that many have made enormous sacrifices not only for our own wellbeing and futures but for many countries who are unable to protect their own values and citizens. Canada has always been there to protect and defend within and without and Masons themselves have been counted among those who unselfishly gave themselves during many conflicts and peacekeeping missions throughout the world. Please come out for the ceremony. Monday November 11th will also see several locations for Remembrance Day services throughout the district. If you need a ride or advice on where the closest ceremonies are being held, contact your lodge secretary. I am sure they can assist.

My next Official visit is to Gore Bay Lodge on Thursday November 14th. I would like to see you attend, and if you haven’t been to their new lodge room, it would be a good reason to come and enjoy the new surroundings and the usual excellent hospitality Gore Bay Lodge is known for.

I have also had the opportunity to discuss several matters that are affecting Masonry in general with other districts in our jurisdiction, and I am reminded at each interaction how fortunate we in the Sudbury Manitoulin District are to be a part of this district. Our support and friendship between the lodges is second to none. We are very well positioned to weather the challenges our fraternity face with the level of respect and dignity we show one another. I am proud to be a mason in our district and thank you all for demonstrating what we can achieve as a team.

The title “Worshipful Sir” applies to everyone who has ever been installed as a Worshipful

Master, (and not achieved a higher office). So there can be several “Worshipful Sirs” in a

lodge, but there is only ONE “Worshipful Master”.

The Master of a lodge is therefore entitled to be – and should be – addressed by his proper title at all times – unless otherwise called for in our rituals and ceremonies.
