More than 100 plant and animal species extinct in NSW over the last 200 years. 1001 species of plants and animals listed as threatened in NSW:
• 59% of terrestrial mammals • 34% of amphibians • 30 % of birds
61% of NSW is covered in native vegetation but only 9% of that is in near natural condition.
Nature under threat
Alpine Region
Last refuge for a range of alpine plants and animals – many could become extinct. Average snow season will contract by 85-96% by 2050 and disappear by the end of the century.
Rivers & Wetlands Changes to rainfall, increased temperatures and evaporation will alter these important ecosystems. Millennium drought (2000-2010) really hit rivers and wetlands hard – Gwydir wetlands contracted by 75% and river red gums lost more mature trees than any other ecosystem.
Coastal
Air temperatures to rise by more than 3 degrees, increase bushfire will destroy hollow-bearing trees. Ecosystems more adapted to fire such as eucalypt woodlands will encroach on rainforests and coastal wetlands. Water temperature to rise by between 2 and 4 degrees. Up to 82cm of sea level rise predicted (already 11cm rise)
Agricultural Lands NSW Department of Primary Industries warns that climate change poses “extreme” risks to several agriculture sectors Sectors that rely on irrigation particularly effected (eg. fruit and veg, rice, cotton, dairying etc.) Wheat is NSW largest crop – in the 25 years to 2015 production fell 27% due mainly to changes in rainfall and increased temperatures during growing period.
Koala
Pilliga forest koala populations crashed 75% in just 10 years because of drought and heat waves. On track to become extinct in much of NSW.

NSW climate pollution by source
Stationary energy

Agriculture
Coal mines
Industry
Waste
Stationary energy
49%
• $1.6 billion being invested in six new solar and wind projects across the state – this year!
• This will generate an estimated 1000 jobs for regional NSW.
• 3 coal-fired power stations have closed in NSW in recent years – Wallerawang, Munmorah, Redbank
• Next term of government Liddell and Vales Point likely to close.
The transition is well and truly here –
but it’s too slow for our climate.
We are IN transition…
• NSW has the lowest rate of renewables in Australia.
• Renewable energy jobs declined in 2015-16 to the lowest level since 2009.
• Carbon pollution from coal fired power stations increased 7% last year – 49 million tonnes.
• Big polluters and politicians who do their bidding are holding us back.
We are being held back

What is Repower?
#Repower is a movement of Australians working together to power
our country with energy from the sun and wind.
Together we’re taking on the big polluting companies and
demanding our elected representatives step up and lead a fair
transition from dirty fuels like coal and gas to clean, renewable
energy.

Grow people power: #Repower Action Groups form across
the country, growing people power behind the campaign &
direct it at big polluters and politicians.
Stop the big polluters: The top 3 polluters, AGL, Energy
Australia & Origin retire their coal power stations by 2030.
Shift the politics: State and federal governments commit to
transition from dirty energy to 100% renewable electricity by
2030, starting with a $2bn regional renewable fund
How we are going to do it
Grow People Power
Collective action: Throughout history the only thing that creates
lasting change is when people demand it
Build numbers: Collect petition signatures to demonstrate the number
of people who want more renewables. Invite others in your area to join
your group and become active on the #Repower campaign.
Shift the politics: Demonstrate that collective power to your MP and
demand our state MPs commit $2 billion to a Regional Renewables
Fund for NSW.
Repower groups are already starting around NSW!
