FROM EDITOR IN CHIEF’S DESK

International Women’s Day: Let’s Raise up Strong Daughters. Very often when I was growing up, I would hear from many elderly people that certain higher

level jobs were not meant for women. I would hear such pronouncements even from those I thought were

educated and mature enough to see that high responsibility did not depend on gender or sex. Thank God I had a father who considered the fact that women should work just as hard as men and women should be equal partners in society.

Women are important in our society. Every woman has her own job or duty in this modern society in which men are unfortunately still the 'strongest gender’. We can´t forget that a woman´s life is a lot

more complicated than a man´s life. A woman has to take care of her own personal life along with her children, husband and the people around her. Worse still, if she is married, additional stress can be on her

shoulders. Yet they still perform very well in the work environment, in some cases better than their male counterparts.

Let us peep into the reports of world Economic Forum’s gender gap index. The gender gap report looks at the disparities in terms of health, education, economic status and political participation between men and women. Global gender gap index 2016 shows Iceland at the top with score .874 and India lies at

87 th position with score .683. A score of 1 shows equality which none of the country possess. India has closed its gender gap by 2 per cent in a year and its gap now stands at 68 per cent across the four pillars

that WEF measures — economy, education, health and political representation. UK stands at 20 th and USA at 45 th place in the chart.

Gender gap continues to exist and it will exist if we sit idle about it. Women are falling behind or are pushed behind , hinder the growth of the society in every sector. Let us work together to celebrate the

birth of a girl child and raise strong daughters.

ARCHOTSAV- 2K17

As a part of INVICTUS 2017 Department of Architecture organized ARCHOTSAV- 2K17 with the following events for concept development:

On the spot design Competition, News paper Fashion Dress design with, Best Selfie moments and Face painting design with concept development.

This is a model prepared by our civil engineering students. One agricultural farming land is seen with bullocks ploughing the field. In other a well which is heavily polluted is seen. Concept: urbanisation is polluting the environment so much that nature's eco system is getting disturbed. Water bodies are filled by waste materials and as a result there will be water crisis which may lead to barren lands. A serious issue which needs to be addressed by people living in city. New methods of waste disposal are to be innovated and implemented.

KALA CORNER

Dress designing with newspaper. In Our tech fest Architecture Department conducted this competition. Design: butterfly dress won first prize and it was very much appreciated by the faculty members, students and parents.
