Blayney High Bulletin - Issue 4 Term 1- Week 8 22 March 2019 Parent Portal By now all primary carers should have received a letter introducing our new Sentral Parent Portal. We will be continuing to develop the portal to ensure you are provided with more and more information. Already since posting the letters we have activated the calendar and Upcoming Events functions. Over the next few weeks and months we will be striving to ensure we have updated email addresses. If your email address is accurate for you in Sentral we will be able to email you updates and letters so you can receive these instantly rather than by post which is now taking up to a week. We will soon be activating a feature which will automatically email you if your child is marked absent that day and we have no reason marked against that absence. You will then be able to contact us to explain that absence (or allow us to correct the record if there has been an error). Once in the Portal please have a look around and see what is there. We are open to feedback if something can be added. Please let us know. Year 12 Exams. In the most recent HSC review NESA ruled that no more than one exam style assessment per course. As such the tradition- al pattern of students sitting a Mid-Course ex- am and a Trial exam at the end of the course for their school based assessment is no long- er permitted. However, in Term 4 students will still sit an external exam worth 50% of their total mark for their course. As such exam performance is a vital skill if students are going to perform to their best. This is the reason we are continuing to hold Mid-Course exams. Additionally student performance in these exams will be a critical diagnostic tool for teachers in assessing learning progress to date with plenty of time to address any issues that arise before the end of courses. While these exam results are not going to be included in the final school bases assessment calculation, we will still be providing these results on Mid-Course reports. As such we are expecting all students to take these exams seriously in Week 10. NOTE – English courses will be sitting a non-exam style assessment during the exam week and so this assessment WILL count toward the internal assessment. This has been notified to all students in writing. Good luck John Browett Principal

Parent Portal

By now all primary carers should have received a letter introducing our new Sentral Parent Portal.

As such the tradition-al pattern of students sitting a Mid-Course ex-am and a Trial exam at the end of the course for their school based assessment is no long-er permitted.
