Hello everyone! I’m going to talk about, once again, a film, this time named Birdman (or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). It was directed by Alejandro Iñárritu, a mexican filmaker who is already known by other films that he directed like 21 Grams, Babel and Biutiful. Like in his previous films, he has chosen a great cast for this new one Birdman. We have Michael Keaton, playing the main character, Riggan Thomson, Emma Stone, his daughter, and other actors like Edward Norton, Naomi Watts and Andrea Riseborough who play actual Broadway actors. The plot is a trip to the main character’s mind, Riggan Thomson, once known quite well because of the iconic super hero that he used to play, "The Birdman". After turning down a fourth installment of that franchise, he attempts to reinvent himself as a director by staging a new adaptation of a Raymond Carver short story called "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love". The film shows us the events leading up to the Saturday night première that Riggan has to struggle with. The original lead actor is injured on set, his replacement takes the job way too seriously, Riggan’s daughter has just come out of rehab and a New York Times critic who threatens to shut down production of the play before it even starts with a really bad review of the opening night performance. First of all, I have to say that Michael Keaton was not chosen randomly to play on this film, his character was

Hello everyone! Im going to talk about, once again, a film, this time named Birdman (or the Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance). It was directed by Alejandro Irritu, a mexican filmaker who is already known by other films that he directed like 21 Grams, Babel and Biutiful. The plot is a trip to the main characters mind, Riggan Thomson, once known quite well because of the iconic super hero that he used to play, "The Birdman". After turning down a fourth installment of that franchise, he attempts to reinvent himself as a director by staging a new adaptation of a Raymond Carver short story called "What We Talk About When We Talk About Love". The film shows us the events leading up to the Saturday night premire that Riggan has to struggle with. The original lead actor is injured on set, his replacement takes the job way too seriously, Riggans daughter has just come out of rehab and a New York Times critic who threatens to shut down production of the play before it even starts with a really bad review of the opening night performance. First of all, I have to say that Michael Keaton was not chosen randomly to play on this film, his character was specially made for him. What I mean is that he already played a superhero once, Batman, in 1989 and 1992, in Batman and Batman Returns. Since then he has only been associated to that hero just like the main character of the film is to Birdman, so I think we can say that hes almost playing himself because his story is very similar to the one of the film and his great redeemer is not play but this film itself Birdman The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance. The film deals with a lot of themes like self-discover and being afraid of oblivion. It also criticizes almost everyone in the entertainment business: actors, directors, audiences and even critics themselves. That is this one particular scene in which Riggan discusses with a critic about that state of cinema and Broadway plays that is very accurate: Tabitha says that shes going to shut down his play because she hates everything that Riggan represents, blockbuster actors, of being famous and without caring about quality of anything they do, stopping real art from happening. This graphic even shows how Broadway has became expensive because of cinema actors trying to make their own propaganda peace, just like Riggan. Then he tells her that critics only label things, there's no real analysis of the work, the technique, the execution. It's all adjectives, signifying nothing, which is a big critic to the reviewers. Birdman is a very symbolic film, in the way that each image can mean something different to different people and its also a very confusing one because the main character imagines that he has the power of the superhero that he used to play and theres a certain point in the film where you just dont know if whats happening is real or not, you can create different theories about what happens in the end. The film has great reviews here and currently is nominated for nine Oscars and has already won 124 prizes in which there are 2 golden globes, one for Michael Keaton for Best Performance by an Actor in a Comedy Motion Picture and Best Screenplay.
