Per Section 1200.3.12 of the City of Albuquerque Standard Specifications CONTRACTOR shall provide and maintain a safe and adequate means of channelizing bicycle traffic around all work areas throughout the periods of construction when existing bicycle trails, lanes, or routes are designated. Where possible, adequate space for bicyclists must be provided, and bicycle detour signs, including "Share the Road" signs shall be installed. When adequate space is not available to provide for bicycle access, the bicycle facilities shall be adequately detoured around the construction site. The detour route shall minimize out-of-direction travel distance, and shall be adequately signed and directed. Bicycle detour signs shall be incidental to payment for traffic control. Note: This typical right lane/bike lane closure should be used on roadways with a striped bike lane. "Share the Road" signage should ONLY be used on designated bike routes which DO NOT have a striped bike lane. Bikes should not be forced to share the road with high speed traffic ( > 25 MPH).
