Samsung Q4 profit rises 17 % on phones, flat panels 

South Korea's Samsung Electronics Co. reported a 17 percent jump in fourth

quarter profit on the strength of smartphone sales even as the company battledclaims it had copied Apple's iPhone.

Samsung said on Friday in a regulatory filing that its net profit reached 4trillion won ($3.5 billion) in the three months that ended in December. Thecompany earned 3.4 trillion won in the same quarter a year earlier.

The Suwon, South Korea-based company said its operating profit jumped

75.8 per cent to 5.3 trillion won in the fourth quarter. The figure was closely in line

with the company's estimate earlier this month of a 73 per cent rise.

In contrast to this, mobile phone maker Nokia posted a fourth quarter net

loss of $1.4 billion, as sales slumped 21% even as the company’s first windows

smartphone hit markets in Europe and Asia. Nokia has lost its once dominant

position in the global cell phone market, with android phones and iPhone market,

with android and iPhones overtaking it in the growing smartphone market.

As Board of Directors in Nokia Corp, discuss the problems through

competitive analysis and suggest a detailed plan on how can Nokia tackle theproblem of decreasing sales revenue and repeated drop in market share.

The team should comprise of a Chief Marketing Officer(CMO), a Chief 

Financial Officer( CFO), a Chief Operations Officer(COO) and a Chief Executive

Officer( CEO) of Nokia Corporation

The case study would be evaluated on

  Co-ordination amongst the board

  Use of facts and figures.

Font ) in *.ppt format.

The first slide should mention

2)  Name of the team leader ( The CEO) and the team name

3)  Name of participants and their roles( CFO, CMO, COO)

contact details in the main body of the mail.
