Countv Center in HauppaugeThe medals were awarded by
the Automobile Club of N^w Yorkfor "exceptional alertness andattention to duty " in safeguar-ding fellow students at schoolcrossings Participating in theceremony was Auto ClubPresident Gilbert B Phillips. TheClub , which is the local affiliateof the AAA , sponsors-and helpsorganize school patrols in thisarea
The boys and girls honoredrepresent the more than 60Suffolk patrol members chosen toreceive the medal. The otherwinners will receive their medalsat school assemblies this weekwhich has been proclaimed asSchool Safety Patrol Week byboth Governor Rockefeller andMr. Dennison
Local Patrol members whoaccepted their awards at theHauppauge ceremony are :Mariano Camacho, 8 ElectricStreet , Patchogue; River A-' \ enuf School ; and EdwardMuller , 31 Cheryl Drive , LakeRonkonkoma , St. Joseph School .
The patrols were f i r s torganized in this area in 1926 bythe Automobile Club . Since then ,they have helped cut trafficfatalities to school-age childrenin tlie state by 53.9 per cent,despite a marked increase inmotor vehicle registration.
During the past year , morethan 3,000 Suffolk students haveserved as Safety Patrol mem-bers.

Mrs Auer is the outg oingpresident of the East PatchogueParent-Teacher Associationwhere she has also filled theoffices of vice president andprogram chairman
She has served the SouthSuffol k Girl Scout Council asscout , leader , council boardmember and associate scout. In1963 Mrs . Auer received a cer-tificate of appreciation for herinterest in the suppor t of the GirlScout Algerian relief project.
In addition to the chairmanshipof the East Patchogue AmericanRed Cross , Mrs . Auer is at-tending college , taking accred -ited courses in psychology, so-ciology, economics and speech.She expects to become a socialworker. Presently she is em-ployed at Swan Variety in EastPatchogue.
Mrs. Auer is treasurer of thePatchogue High School alumni ,and a coordinator for planning aclass reunion scheduled for July.
