• You can contribute new things to UMY classes when you return
• Surveys show that 80-90% of students who go overseas on a student exchange rank it very highly, and for many it is a transformative experience
Please sum up what you thought overall of your student exchange experience:
“Life changing. It challenges your perspective on everything. You become so much better academically, socially, and in every way. At the end of the day it’s not where I ended up, but what the experience has made me, and that is a better, more well rounded individual.” [Uni Adelaide student]
2. Types of student mobility/international study experiences
• Undertaking a degree overseas
• Articulation/dual degrees, e.g. 2+2 years
• Student exchange (1-2 semesters)
• Short courses:
o Summer/Winter Schools
o Study tours led by academic staff
o Specially designed courses
• Field work or research work overseas
• Placements/internships
3. Student exchanges between Indonesia and Australia
• A student exchange:
a) Is 2-way: students go in both directions, in roughly equal numbers
b) Is for credit towards the student’s degree
c) The student is not charged tuition fees by the host university
• 8 of Indonesia’s nearly 500 universities have student exchanges with Australian universities: UGM (with 4 partners), UI (3), UBAYA (2), Atma Jaya Jakarta, BINUS, ITB, UNPAR, UPH
• This year the Australian Government funds 18 Indonesian university students to go on exchange to Australian universities, and 16 Aussie students to come to Indonesia on exchange
• This is through A$5,000 International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) scholarships for each student
