President’s Message.. continued

Republicans will make their first impression in the Nevada 2012 political process at the Presidential Caucus on February 4th. The March 10th Clark County Republican Convention will follow. Both events require large numbers of volunteers. Thank you to the 22 members who attended the Caucus Training on December 19th. If you could not make it, please go to Page 4 in this newsletter; see Caucus training information and sign-up. Your help is critical in making these two political events seamlessly successful.

Many of you have signed up to help with the clerical work required for caucus day, Barbara Altman will be in touch just as soon as we get the actual work schedule from the CCRP. We anticipate work to begin sometime this week or next.

Please know many precincts were redrawn and renumbered during redistricting. Ross Miller, Nevada’s Secretary of State, has announced that new voter registration cards will NOT be mailed PRIOR to the caucus. To insure you go to the right place, please see Page 4 in this newsletter to verify your voter registration and precinct number. Although you may look up your caucus location now, please keep in mind that caucus locations could change between now and February 4th. Look for ARW emails about this, as we get closer to Caucus Day.

Before closing, I would like to encourage each of you to attend the CCRP’s 2012 Lincoln Day Dinner at the Venetian. Early bird special tickets for $100 apiece are on sale now through January 20th. After that time, tickets go up to $125. Pay on line or with a check. Once you have paid, please email me the names of everyone in your party so that I may place you at ARW tables. See Page 6 for more information.

FIND THE HIDDEN WORD CONTESTWhat’s the Word? …And What’s the Prize?

You have heard about the spoken word, but have you heard about the hidden word? We are about to embark on a new contest for ARW members only, with some terrific prizes. Since 2012 is such a very important election year to be well informed, and since your Board set priorities this year to increase membership participation, and most especially since our ARW Battle Born Bulletin is award-winning caliber, first prize each month will be a FREE DINNER at Spanish Trails Country Club at our ARW monthly membership meeting (a $27 cash value!) The contest is so easy. All we ask is to read Battle Born and submit your word entry. (Hint: the word will have a patriotic or political meaning.) The word contest comes right from the belly of our newsletter! Here are the details:

1. Read newsletter and make your guess on the word. The Hidden word is a single word (not an expression) and will appear at least five times or more anywhere in the newsletter.

2. One hidden word entry per member per month. The Hidden word must be submitted via email to [email protected]. Subject: ARW Hidden Word Contest.

3. Hidden word entry must be received via email between the 1st and 15th of the month for that month’s meeting. The timestamp of the email will be used to determine if deadline was met.

4. If several people submit correct answer, a winner’s name will be drawn at the ARW meeting of that same month. Winner must be present to win, or another name will be drawn. If no winner is present after five drawings, then we skip the award for one month.

5. Both Full and Associate Members are eligible. ARW Board members are not eligible. But only one free dinner per winner per year.

6. The prize is a free dinner at the next ARW Monthly Meeting of the next consecutive month. You must RSVP and we cannot postpone the award. Other prizes may also be awarded.

NvFRW Regents 2012!by Kay Butchko, 2012 Regent Chair, Nevada Federation of Republican Women

2012-----The year we have been waiting for! It's time to "Take Back America" and to keep "Nevada Red"! And NvFRW Regents is poised to make this happen!

Regents provides the funding necessary to facilitate education, training and special projects for our Federation to broaden our reach in the political process. Funded by the generous donation of $100 a year, Regents will insure that our Federation grows membership, leadership strength and accomplishments. Our philosophy is that individually we cannot "do it all"; however, collectively, we can!

As NvFRW Regents Chair, I will be visiting you club in January to explain the program and ask for your support---with your check. Or you may join by check by mail with the form provided on the next page in this newsletter. We have a huge opportunity to make a "change" in our government this year! (The kind of change Republicans believe in!!!) Becoming a Regent is a great way to start!

I look forward to seeing you in January.

They sent my Tax Return back AGAIN because of my responseto the question: "List all dependents?" I replied -"12 million illegal immigrants;"3 million crack heads;"42 million unemployable people on food stamps,"2 million criminals in over 243 prisons;"Half of Mexico ; and"535 fools in the U.S. House and Senate. Apparently this was not an acceptable answer.

This month's literacy column is being repeated from a previous column because it so very important that both students and adults are responsible users of the Internet and other sources of information. When any of us are using the Internet, YouTube, newspapers, videos, blogs or any other type of media in a presentation, it is always important to cite the source of the information.  Living in the Information Age has opened some wonderful sources to us all, but those sources should be used ethically.  With any freedom comes responsibility as citizens of a free society we are able take on those responsibilities and cherish our benefits. The information to the right gives examples of how to cite different types of media and information. You can also click here to visit the website for further information.

LITERACY UPDATEBy Molly Governs, ARW Literacy Chair

A warning from the local police THIS APPLIES TO BOTH WOMEN AND MEN BEWARE OF PAPER ON THE BACK WINDOW OF YOUR VEHICLE -- NEW WAY TO DO CARJACKINGS (NOT A JOKE) Heads up everyone! You walk across the parking lot, unlock your car and get inside. You start the engine and shift into reverse. When you look into the rearview mirror to back out of your parking space, you notice a piece of paper stuck to the middle of the rear window. So, you shift into Park, unlock your doors, and jump out of your car to remove that paper (or whatever it is) that is obstructing your view. When you reach the back of your car, that is when the carjackers appear out of nowhere, jump into your car and take off. They practically mow you down as they speed off in your car. And guess what, ladies? I bet your purse is still in the car. So now the carjacker has your car, your home address, your money, and your keys. Your home and your whole identity are now compromised! BEWARE OF THIS NEW SCHEME THAT IS NOW BEING USED. If you see a piece of paper stuck to your back window, just drive away and remove the paper later.

Please spread the word and let your friends and family know. Thank You._________________________________________________________________________________________
