Announcements…

Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Syracuse

YOUR PRAYERS ARE REQUESTED AT all Masses celebrated this week for an end to persecution, our church, for vocation to the religious life, for an end to abortion, for the needs of the Parish, for our sick at home, in nursing homes and in the hospitals, for American Armed forces and Veterans, for world peace, and an end to terrorism.

A FAMILY PERSPECTIVE.... The question in today’s gospel, “What will this child be?” concerns all parents. We spend years trying to influence and shape the answer, hoping our children will be “strong in spirit”, like the Baptist, and “blessing God” like Zachariah.

IS GOD CALLING YOU? As a Church, we celebrate the feast of the last of the prophets before Christ, St. John the Baptist (who said “yes” to God, even when it led to his martyrdom). God used his “yes” to change the world. What will God do with your “yes”? If you are interested in exploring this question further, feel free to go to www.vocations-syracuse.org, or call 315-470-1468.

GETTING READY….It’s not too early to help Sister Melanie prepare a new booth for this year’s Parish Festival. Sister is requesting donations of gift cards of various values starting with $10.00. They can be to any restaurant, store, fast food restaurant, gas station, etc. A variety of value amounts and places is appreciated. You can place them in an envelope with Sister‘s name and drop it in the collection basket, or you can give them to Sister at your convenience. Thank you in advance for your help and support. The Parish Festival will be here before you know it.

SCHOLARSHIP INFORMATION: When Sacred Heart School closed in June 2002, the Parish Council voted to award a scholarship to a student who was a parishioner of the Basilica, graduated from the 6th grade and was continuing their education in a Catholic Junior High School. Beginning in the fall of 2002 the scholarships have been awarded. The students continue to receive a $500 scholarship each year they maintain good grades and effort. A $300 scholarship will be awarded to a 2017 sixth grade student of a Catholic or public school who will be entering a Catholic Junior High School in the fall of 2017. Applicant’s family must be a contributing parishioner of Sacred Heart, and the student must have maintained good grades and effort in grade 6. A copy of the application forms may be picked up from the rectory or from the church vestibule. The deadline is June 30, 2018.

IT'S TIME TO THINK ABOUT THEME BASKETS!! Our Parish festival is Saturday, August 4th, 2018. I am asking your help by making up a basket or donating items to be used to make up a basket. The theme basket booth has always been a very successful part of our festival and everyone looks forward to seeing all the baskets. This year, in addition to accepting your made-up baskets, I will be making up baskets with donations from you. During June & July there will be a tree with tags containing items needed to make up baskets in the church, there will also be bins at the tree display to drop off your donations-this will be set up in the church vestibule. Another option is a monetary donation that can be used to purchase items to make up baskets. As in the past, all items must be new. Baskets can be dropped off before or after all weekend Masses during this period. If you have any questions, need help with your basket or need your basket picked up call Pat Wlosinski @ 315-468-6143 or email @ [email protected]. Thank you for your help in making

2018 another successful year!.
