fOREWORDThere are items of furniture projects which serve as especially good repre-sentative examples of the fundamen-tal ideas of my academic development. Their ideas has less to do with their direct use and more to do with the way in which they present a new vision of

a culture of living. The content was pro-duced in between 2011-1013, during de-signer’s Industrial Design Major Course. This Portfolio is furniture design orient-ed. And hence, the other projects ideal-ized by the designer are not shown in this portfolio book.

INSPIRATIONWith the aim of offering interesting piec-es, the furniture has widespread appeal and highlights the important challenge of maintaining timelessness in creating atmo-spheres small furniture in the living room environment.

Highlighting the links between contempo-rary privilege user and a more Brazilian ur-ban language, taking it to a clean and strik-ing geometric language.

This is mixed with a sincere and interest-ing story that accompanies the pieces - to promote small highlight specialized coffee products valuing national cultural plurality, through details that inhabit your daily life.

> PURPOSE: Vitrar is a coffee table that aims to reestabilish the Brazilian cultural values in a modern perspective. It is made of a laminated bamboo bed tray and base, that attach magnetically. RESEARCH

The project design was guided by minimal use of materials and of technology aggre-gataded cost that can be packed in the most economical and practical way. Its structure is constructed through the pro-cess of machining laminated bamboo, with subtle detallhes marquetry, wood for appli-cation. While the side uses injection tech-nology of recycled plasctic material.

As the brazilian ability to bring together dif-ferent theme to the same approaches, it is suggested a customizable soundboard for the side of the product made of recycled plastic composition. The stickers are easy to apply and give a touch of uniqueness and enchantment to the furniture.

INSPIRATION

It story starts on a way to remake the British tea trolley, that have been outdated for con-temporary living. In 2011 I felt the need to speak out for the furnitures that are free of doors and shelves, and wants to follow their user’s quick decisions, and being reminded to reuse it over and over again.

I tried to transform the diamond shape in a two dimensional shape with no surface ap-plications. While creating, I wanted to show my proportions perspectives and shapes in-stead of it’s solide and robust shape, with no movement.

> PURPOSE: Faced is a table support that aims to encourage a pure coffee experience in the living room. The challenge given to the designer was to create a ready to assemble furniture for the independent contempo-rary public. The geometric shapes aims to enlight the significant supplies needed for a well time spent, at the shorted displace-ment area.

RESEARCHSide table is my actual first attempt to fur-niture studies. My target was a brazilian houseware store called Tool Box, in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais. And in suggestion to start their furniture collection, it should be used simple process production in order to incorporate their market position. Shape is executed from 3 different shapes of MDF wood that would be repeated in a way to simplify assembling and storage.

The unpredictability of it use, since is a ur-ban furniture, got together with outdoor furnitures as inspirations, whereas it was reestablish an emotional interaction with people - and nothing better than a good quality solid wood for it.

> PURPOSE: This project is the first out a family of furnitures designed to the neces-sities of a historical city in Brazil made of local wood, and resembling the well known citty’s baroque style on it’s shape.

< Designer: Barbara Mendonca Category: Street BenchSize: 450x567x495mmMaterial: Hard Wood

35>> Categorie: Urban Bench >> Name: Street Crutc

RESEARCHThe bench was the first urban unit to be cre-ated, out of a family of furniture which seeks to benefit the residents of the calm city of Tiradentes, Minas Gerais, Brazil.

Tiradentes is a city with many cultural events in which, most of the times goes forward the historical houses up to the street, and so the main park is used as the main location.

Additionaly because of it’s beauty, the city atracts hundreds of tourists every month. Even though there are very narrow side-walks, and the park it self have a limited space to interact with the space. The Bench is a proposal to expand the use of the furni-ture in terms of temporality and dynamics.

The memory of Tiradentes was for itself the project concept sought to suggest knowl-edge and cultural identification by levels of interaction with small elements.

INSPIRATIONWe associated the dailu natural interferenc-es with man-made objects, and so, making an individual bridge from the virtual to phys-ical nature continuity and intersection signs around the urban areas.

In other words we realize there’s a parasite relationship in where something is always living off something else. And regarding the adaptabilities issues, this would be the first of a family of products, also inspired by Memphis furniture and Giuseppe Penone works.

> PURPOSE: The Muta table concept was creating a mutualism relationship in be-tween tables which is inspired by simple sintuations on our daily life. It has a place to attach both tables and easily slide one on the top of the other. Each table made of all-uminium shapes with glass and wooden.

We wanted to explore the ways we could pass adaptability and collectivity from a healing appeal connection, and being in-spired by the nature implicit codes.

41>> Categorie: Dinning Table >> Name: Mutuality

RESEARCHOur research was based in social discus-sions around our network economy. Since the user is also mentioned as co designer, and represent many holes in their daily life.

Alternatively, we tried to involve the envi-ronment by a physical interaction the furni-ture would be our a way of sharing.

We got to the conclusion that the use of two different materials such as alluminium and wood, would influence positevelly on the in-terpretation of it’s design and also the sta-bility and function in between both tables whenever they were disassemble.
