The Asian Undergraduate Summit (AUS) is a student-run international programme organised by the National University of Singapore (NUS) University Scholars Club (USC).

The Summit aims to bring together undergraduates of diverse disciplines from Asia, and provide them with the opportunity to engage in meaningful academic, cultural and social exchange.

AUS 2017 comprises two segments: (i) the Overseas Leg, where students from Participating Universities will experience a five-day Overseas Leg at one of the four Overseas Host

Universities (OHUs); (ii) the Singapore leg, where all participants will meet in NUS for six days.

Roles and responsibilities of Participating Universities — Conduct recruitment and shortlisting of 10 participants who are able to take part in both

the Overseas Leg and the Singapore Leg — Submit a profile write-up on the university's country/city. The write-up should provide

an overview on the prevalent Disruptive Changes in the country/city as well as the Disruptive Changes with the potential for widespread impact in the country/city in the near future.

— Coordinate administrative matters of participants: booking of flights, collating of personal information, liaising with NUS and the OHU

Multidisciplinary Focus AUS brings together undergraduates from a diversity of disciplines so that participants can

benefit from perspectives beyond their specialisation. The theme for this year promises multidisciplinary engagement by involving a multifaceted examination of disruptive change

in our everyday lives and their impact on various stakeholders and industries.

Asian-centric Focus The reach of AUS 2017 includes universities from India and China and universities from the ASEAN region including Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Philippines. The

Summit brings together participants from a wide range of Asian contexts and draws on key

commonalities amongst Asian countries to ensure meaningful discussion.

Bringing expertise to our participants AUS is a platform for students to learn from top industry experts, academics and Design- Thinking trainers through a carefully curated lecture series, panel discussions and skills-

based workshops.

Leadership Development

AUS challenges participants to identify key issues arising from Disruptive Change, brainstorm and implement ideas as a team.

Skills-based Track

What makes AUS unique is its incorporation of a skills-based track. This year, the Design

Thinking methodology will be imparted to the participants with a series of workshops and discussions. Design Thinking is a valuable problem solving skills set which drives the process of ideation, creation, and the testing of a prototype. The methodology places emphasis on

user-centricity, ensuring that the proposed solutions address the problem identified and are tailored to the intended target audience.

Cultural Exposure

In experiencing the Overseas Leg and the Singapore Leg, participants will learn and understand the unique contexts of Asian countries and develop a broader perspective on key issues pertinent to Asia today.

Networking Opportunities

By connecting participants to industry experts, academics, AUS alumni and other Asian

undergraduates, AUS empowers participants to build lasting friendships and networks that will facilitate the exchange of ideas and provide opportunities for collaboration beyond the Summit.

The theme for AUS 2017 is, "Leadership in a Complex World: Disruptive Change in Everyday Life".

an Not long ago, food delivery options were limited to fast food from chain establishments d the

Mcdonald's and Pizza Hut. In less than five years, disruptive change has tsfor e

food delivery industry and, by extension, our eating habits. Services like UberEats and Foodpanda now connect customers to numerous food establishments, from top restaurants to

local hawker stalls, on one integrated online platform.

This transformation has also significantly impacted work in the food delivery industry. With

Ubereats, anyone with a car or a motorbike can deliver food to consumers. We see employment

opportunities becoming increasingly flexible and open to the layman. In the taxi industry, we

From the perspective of consumers, the popularisation of taxi-booking applications

complements the traditional, flag-a-cab system, significantly altering our consumption patterns. With the introduction of platforms like Carouse11 and Lazada, online shopping is no longer

ivel limited to large online merchants. Buying and selling online is now an irreplaceable exclus y part of our lives.

AUS 2017 explores how different aspects of everyday life have been disrupted in light of broader

interrelated trends. Participants will critically assess the implications of disruptive change on specific stakeholders and communities in society and propose solutions to address these issues.

The Summit drives our leaders of tomorrow beyond passive receivers o f change into dynamic

individuals capable of assessing, adapting to and enacting future change in Asia.

(i) Overseas Leg: 5th June — 9th June 2017

The first leg of the summit comprises a five-day programme organised in partnership with our 4 Overseas Host Universities.

Hindu College, University of Delhi, Delhi, India Mahidol University, Bangkok, Thailand Airlangga University, Surabaya, Indonesia

We are in midst of confirming our partnership with our 4th Overseas Host University.

Participants are expected to develop a contextual understanding of the aspects of everyday living that has undergone disruptive change relevant to the Host Country. Participants will also learn about efforts made by key stakeholders in adapting to and managing such disruptive change in everyday life. The Overseas Leg will entail a unique blend of site-visits, dialogue sessions and panel discussions to provide an educational and immersive experience to all participating undergraduates.

(i) Overseas Leg: 5th June — 9th June 2017 (cone)

As each Overseas Leg is specialised to specific angles of Disruptive Change, each PU will be paired with an OHU according to the countries' profile.

Each participating university is thus required to submit a profile write-up on their country/city. The write-up should provide an overview on the prevalent Disruptive

Change in the country/city as well as the Disruptive Change with potential for widespread impact in the country/city in the near future.

(ii) Singapore Leg: 28th June — 3rd July 2017

The Singapore Leg of AUS will be hosted at NUS and helmed by the AUS Organising Committee. All NUS and foreign participants will gather in Singapore to further engage with the theme.

The Singapore Leg will serve as a common platform for undergraduates to engage in

discourse and academic exchange about their experiences in the Overseas Host

Universities. This will promote dialogue and meaningful interaction pertaining to the issue of Disruptive Change in different contexts.

In addition, the Singapore leg will also impart to participants the Design Thinking

methodology via workshop sessions. Equipping them with valuable skills, the Design Thinking methodology will effectively guide the participants through a process of ideation to creatively formulate a user-centric deliverable by the end of the Summit.

As the deliverable, participants will formulate and conceptualise an idea, venture or

product aimed at managing disruptive change for a particular group of people in society.

The end of the Singapore Leg will thus see a creative springboard of ideas generated in the course of the 5 days, to be pitched to industry experts and key stakeholders for implementation in both Singapore and respective university partners.
