• Synonym: kata-kata yang secara garis besar
memiliki arti yang sama.
• Contoh: end = finish
• Antonym: kata-kata yang secara garis besar
memiliki arti yang berlawanan.
• Contoh: end x start

Review: Homonyms & Hyponyms
• Homonym: kata-kata yang memiliki bunyi
pengucapan yang mirip, tetapi ejaan dan
artinya berbeda.
• Contoh:
meat ~ meet, peace ~ piece
• Hyponym: kata-kata yang merupakan bagian
dari suatu kelompok/kelas yang sama.
• Contoh:
chair, table, cupboard = hyponyms of
furniture
red, blue, green, yellow = color

• Word (kata) = stem + suffix
• Akhiran yang sering muncul:
• Pembentuk kata benda (noun) : -ance, -
ence, -ancy, -acy, -cy, -ation, -sion, -tion, -
ator, -or, -er, -ery, -ory, -ism, -ist, -ity, -ive, -ly,
-ment, -ness, -ship
• Pembentuk kata kerja (verb): -en, -ify, -fy, -
ize, -ise
• Pembentuk kata sifat (adjective): -able, -ible,
-ful, -ish, -ive, less, -y
• Pembentuk kata keterangan (adverb): -ly

mis-, multi-, non-, re-, sub-, super-, un-,

• Word = prefix + stem
• Word = stem + suffix
• Word = prefix + stem + suffix
• Contoh:
Psychology = psycho (root) + logy (root)
Misunderstand = mis- (prefix) + understand
(stem)
Terminator = terminate (stem) + -or (suffix)
Television = tele- (prefix) + vise (stem) + -ion
(suffix)
