I. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT***

We would like to thank Mr, Chau Kien Tsong as our AVT Lecturer for his guidance over

the months of learning and providing us with the knowledge to produce our AVT assignment at

its best.

We would also like to thank our friends which helped us in recording the sounds as well

giving us ideas on how to make the flash better.

II. OBJECTIVES***

One of the objectives of this application is to enrich our knowledge in this module Audio

Visual Technology through processes of sound modification and synchronization. Though the

outcome was not good enough, we were able to gain certain basic steps in making a short flash

movie clip.

The application is mainly for entertainment purposes and also provides a few simple hints

of what will happen during a job interview, such as: emotional reactions (stressful,

overconfident, etc.), awkward or unexpected questions that may come out to test ability of

creativity of applicants. Generally, our application can be considered as a guideline (in a

humorous way) for those who are preparing for their interviews.

3

III. TARGET USERS***

One of the target users is anyone of any age. This is because we believe everyone loves

humor and comedy. The idea of having fruits interview for a job is already a funny idea which

can make people laugh along with their special voices as well as surprising singing.

The next target user is people going for interview. Although fruits having interview are

unrealistic, the events that happen such as interviewee crying or interviewee intend to hit the

interviewer may happen.

The following target user is kids and children. The interactivity to transfer from one

scene to another scene will keep the kids and children interested as a form of entertainment. It

will feel like watching a cartoon but having the ability to control it.

IV. STORYBOARD***

SCENE 1 (Narration/Intro)

Script:

Narration: Fruit Cocktail is a world-wide company that currently operates their business in

kitchens almost all over the world. Due to its expansion, the company has opened a brand new

restaurant in Syrup Kingdom. This is indeed a great chance for the company since this is the first

foreign restaurant ever in the Kingdom. However, it is also a big challenge for Fruit Cocktail

since the citizens of the Kingdom still find it a bit strange and unfamiliar with the menu of its

restaurant. To boost up the sale revenue, Apple-the CEO of fruit Cocktail decided to recruit a

new brand manager and he/she should be local. After examining all the candidates’

applications, there were 3 most promising candidates who were chosen to go for an interview.

They are Mr. Kiwi, Ms. Watermelon and Mr. Lemon. And so the 3 eagerly waiting for the

interview…*Creepy Ringtone*

Content of Audio Track: This is a recorded voice of Ivan reading out the narration along with

the creepy ringtone.

Detailed Plan: The narration starts playing when the “Narration – Intro” button is left-clicked.

The sound modification done for this scene is the narration sounds like a deep man voice by

changing the pitch. When the narration is done, the “creepy ringtone” is played. The sound was

cropped to be approximately 10 seconds to avoid annoying the users for playing the same sound

too long.

VI. CRTICAL COMMENT & ANALYSIS***

As mentioned earlier, all of our dialogue files were generated by ourselves by using built-

in microphone, and headset to minimize noise effects as much as we could. However, the quality

of the sounds (even after modified on Audacity) were still not clear enough. This issue could be

caused by low quality of the microphones we used and the surroundings.

The Internet appeared as a great source since we could get accessed to other Audacity

tutorials easily. Though there were still conflicts among tutorials from different sources. For

example, to set the values of “demonic voice”, generally, all the tutorials would show us to

duplicate the file into another two layers, then makes changes accordingly. This step was

generally accepted among instructors. But when it comes to adjusting certain values of Decay

Value and Semitone, they would have conflicting values which led to different outcome of

“demonic voice”. It could be understood since everyone has different level of experience and

type of sound file they used to demonstrate.Noise Removal and Amplifier were also troublesome

effects when we modified our sound files. Most of us will choose Noise Removal to improve the

frequency smoothing and filter out unwanted noise but it also means your files will become

downgraded based on the values that you set. And amplifying it again somehow brings back the

noise. Thus, to clarify which part is actually the noise to make it as an example is very important

for sound processing purposes. We believe our sound will be even better if we are provided a

studio here.

Among software for sound modification, Garageband is also a good alternative (but it is

only available for Mac Os users). For Windows, we can take a look at Reaper. It is gaining trust

from Audacity’s users as well. We personally felt that Reaper is really good at controlling levels,

you can locate exactly clipping parts of your file. Variable plugins and effects are what make

Reaper more popular now. Besides, the user interface of Audacity looks unattractive, reminds us

of the old-time windows 98. However, in terms of volume effect, Audacity processes files quite

fast and most importantly; Audacity is free, open source software (there are still many sound

effects in Audacity which we have not tried yet) while Reaper is a commercial one. Generally,

25

Page 26: AVT Assignment-UCTI

ASIA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION AVT-CT001-3-1

Audacity is still unbeatable and especially useful for amateur users and those who are

considering something economical and efficient.
