Introduction

The sports injuries clinic provides sports injuries and sports customers. This office has one receptionist, one manager and ten administration staff. The receptionists manage customers and couriers regarding deliveries and pass on the information to the administrations staff who maintain the company’s customer and employee databases.

The Manager wants to do this the information system that is currently used needs to be looked at and re-developed. They also would like to manage new and cancelled deliveries could be uploaded to the terminals at any time.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

I would like to thank sayar U Nyi Nyi, senior lecturer(MCC Training Institute Yatanarpon)

who teaches the subject of Information System Analysis and supervisor of assignment. He

always very kindness and give valuable knowledge of realise experience software engineering

environment.

Next, I would like to thanks Daw Phyo Thwe Aye, class tutor of Level-5, Section (5). She

Task 1

Information Systems Analysis and Methodologies

1. (a) Structured Systems Analysis and Design Methodologies

When we used SSADM get the following this benefit:

Each step of the Waterfall method needs to be completed before progression onto the next one. This aims to ensure that all procedures associated with each step are undertaken. It is easy to measure progress by referring to the objectives defined for each step. It ensures through planning and scheduling.

And also get the following disadvantages:

There is a lack of flexibility, e.g. if the requirements are not specified correctly or change later in the project. It can be expensive to repeat the requirements stage or it may not be possible to return to this stage. There is often limited user involvement as this method tends to concentrate on the technical requirements. A project can often take longer to deliver than other methods that allow stages in a project to be repeated. e. g. the Agile methodology.

1. (b) Two types of information gathering technique for The Sports Injury ClinicMy opinion appropriate two types of information gathering technique is

1. Structured Interview2. Use of Questionnaires

Structure Interview

Formal meeting conducted to obtain information about the present and planned systems. The most common method of fact gathering Must fit into the analyst’s overall fact finding strategy

Level (5) Section 5 Page 7

Page 9: Aung Zay Ya (ISA - Done)

[Information System Analysis] September 2014

The interviews must be made aware of the purpose of the investigation before the interviews

Arrange the interviews well in advance The correct place for the interview should be selected The conduct of the interview itself is all-important

Advantages of Interview Method

Often gain additional information. Not long drawn out. Results available quickly.

Advantages of Questionnaires

Relatively cheap, particularly when there is scattered groups of users & operators Free of interviewer distortion and error Permits time to refer to document and documentations Possible to ask more personal and controversial questions Response can be anonymous Time and distance not much of a problem

1. (c). I hope to gather and analyse during my investigation the sort of information

The following questions should be asked when undertaking analysis of an information system:

What is being done? How is It being done?Who is doing it?When is it being done? Why is it being done? Can it be improved and if so, how?

Detail specification is necessary that details:

The structure how the information system is organized. How it function. What data is input, processed and output.User requirements.Customer requirements.Performance requirements

Page 10: Aung Zay Ya (ISA - Done)

[Information System Analysis] September 2014

Hardware RequirementsSoftware requirements specification is also provided, which includes detail of an functional requirements of the system, such as the interaction between the users and the software and the non-functional requirement. e. g the quality standards verification – ensuring that the information system is being developed correctly and that is design and implementation is following recommended solution validation – ensuring that the correct information system is developed and that it meets the user’s needs as recommended

Task – 2

Hard, Soft and Combined Approaches to information systems analysis

2. (a) SSM provides opportunity for the following:

- Open discussion of problems, perceptions and needs

- Different perspectives

- Joint problem solving

- User participation and commitment

- Bringing sectors of an organization together

SSM adverse opportunity for the following:

- May not be appropriate for complex systems in large organization due to economic and large organization due to economic and time constraints.

- Can take a long time to reach agreement.

- It can be difficult to manage.

- It may not be taken seriously.

Task - 3

Stakeholder analysis and CATWOE

3. (a) I consider the CATEWOE Analysis using following advantages are expected:

It is used to prompt thinking about what the business is trying to achieve and helps identify can categories all the people, process, external factors involved in the information system that is being analyzed. It refers to:

C = Customer/ ClientsA = Actors/ AgentsT = TransformationW = WorldviewO = OwnersE = Environment

Open discussion of problems, perceptions and needs Different perspectives Joint problem solving User participation and commitment Bringing sectors of an organization together

3. (b) Using the Stakeholder Analysis get the following advantages:

Stakeholders in your decision-making process there are many key. Stakeholders have singular acumen into issues. They can secure resources to assist you with your decisions or project including stakeholders can make trust, which can basically lead to increment consensus for your project or last decision. It can also improve clarity and lead to better decision building.

And also using the Stakeholder Analysis get the following disadvantages:

First, involvement of stakeholders often takes time.

Level (5) Section 5 Page 12

Page 14: Aung Zay Ya (ISA - Done)

[Information System Analysis] September 2014

Depending on your project or timeline, you may not have sufficient time to engage stakeholders. Involving stakeholders may be inappropriate when you are establishing accountability in supervisory settings. Asking for input, when decisive action is needed to address supervisory issues, can give the appearance the supervisor does not have solid leadership abilities. Lastly, if you involve stakeholders but don't take their advice, you have raised an expectation that hasn't been met, which can lead to distrust and hamper morale.

Task - 4

People-Oriented and Process-Oriented Analysis

4. (a) Conceptual model of the Sports Injuries Clinic

4. (b) I prefer to use a combined hard and soft system analysis technique because

- Although SSADM can be used solely as a methodology for analysis, it is not usual for SSM to be used alone.

- For a system to be developed that is complete in both technical and human aspects, a combined approach of hard and soft methods can be used for analysis.

- A combined approach is suitable for both small and large systems.

Level (5) Section 5 Page 14

Page 16: Aung Zay Ya (ISA - Done)

[Information System Analysis] September 2014

- It includes both the human and technical aspects of information system analysis.

- It facilities user participation in the analysis and design of the system.

- It enables the input of user knowledge and skills.

- It considers job satisfaction an important aspect of the overall system.

- It offers the analyst flexibility in approach.

Depends on several factors:

- size of the organization and project

- type of system being analyzed

- expertise and skills of the Analysts

- participation and cooperation of all those invited to take part in the analysis.

This will be explored further and discussed in the seminar

(c) I decide not to use ETHICS during my investigation the following reasons:

may not be appropriate for complex systems in large organization due to economic and time constraints.

Can take a long time to reach agreement It can be difficult to manage It may not be taken seriously Can be applied to all projects – large or small but is perhaps more appropriate for

complex and large-scale projects.
