The Del Webb at Lake Oconee Golf Club is currently enjoying a stellar year playing the various golf courses in and around the Lake Oconee area. The club is currently 73 members strong, and we welcome all DWLO residents, especially new residents, to come on out and enjoy the fun.

The men’s group plays on Tuesday and Friday at various courses. The Milledgeville Country Club and Little Fishing Creek in Milledgeville have lately been the courses of choice. The Ladies Group plays on Wednesdays at Harbor Club.

Our Golf Outing Committee has put together plans for our September 10-12, 2014 Golf Tournament at the Butternut Creek Golf Course, Blairsville, Georgia. All Golf Club members when planning your calendar for August, reserve the date and time of August 26 at 5:00pm for our pre-departure meeting at the lakeside pavilion. Jerry Holland, Outing Committee Chair will announce Team Captains, Team Members and also a rules briefing at this meeting. Once more we’d like to invite you to come on out, join the club and join in the fun. A good time is in store for all!

The Pickleball Extravaganza was held on July 29. This was a fun tournament with 6 groups of 6 players vying for bragging rights within the group. Each player played 4 games with rotating partners within the group. The winners were Early Birds—Charles Stewart & Elsa Vasquez (77E); Cardinals—Freddie Vasquez; Falcons—Dan Eicher; Robins—Virginia Gesme; Owls—Bubba Kerlin & Ed Glick; Butcher Birds—Walt Lamar. The competition was followed by a burger lunch at the clubhouse. New residents need to come to the courts to learn to play and to enjoy the fastest growing sport in America.

An October tournament among the 3 Del Webb communities in Georgia is being planned for the 3rd of October. Sun City Peachtree will host Deaton Creek and Lake Oconee. These other communities are larger than we are, so we will need our best to participate in order to come out on top. Dick Freel

July is almost a memory, and many of us have been on the go traveling to places

both far and near. Trina has sent out emails to scrappers to offer hands-on instruction on any of the tools that are available for members’ use in the craft room. It was decided that we should work with only one tool (such as cuttlebug) at a time.

August is a free choice month, so this would be an excellent time to focus on individual tools and develop our skills and knowledge of each ones function as we work on a variety of paper-crafts throughout the year. Please let Trina Berry or Karen Walker know which tools you would like instruction/help with, and we will plan accordingly.

Scrappers will meet in the craft room at 10:00 am on August 5 and August 14. Again, August meetings are “free choice” which would be a great time to learn and get some new ideas. Karen Walker

What happens when we have a problem in the community?

Depending on the nature of the concern, we can submit a CAC Comment Card detailing the issue and a

suggested solution. What you should also include, however, is your plan for getting to that solution. Interest

groups and chartered clubs form to establish a refined activities program here at Del Webb, but they also

support and finance their needs through fund-raisers and donations. Consider the veterans club’s flag display

at the front of the clubhouse or the ping pong club’s purchase of an additional table to supplement the one

that Del Webb provided, both groups having a need and solving their own

problem. The Clubs and Activities Advisory Committee does not do the research to

find the best product or service. It considers your solution and your plan and

approves its efficacy and community presence and appearance. Community

growth whispers that we are growing up and that answers are within our own

grasp.

Change to the Main Path for Docks A, B and C at Lakeside Pavilion Effective immediately golf carts are no longer allowed on the path that lead to boat docks A, B and C. The two fold reason for this change:

· Path lights are continuing to be knocked down and broken by improper cart maneuvering. These lights have been repaired numerous times at an expense to the HOA and XX number of volunteer man hours. Boater safety is important after docking at dark to have a proper lighted path. · The cart traffic has added compaction to the soil which is damaging the tree roots. The numerous understory native groundcovers have diminished from the affected areas.

A sign is posted to indicate that these paths are for pedestrian traffic only.

Tip For Loading and Unloading of Boats: Bring your boat to dock D and load or unload your passengers and supplies. This will make your life much easier and will require less work on your part.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter Boat Amenities Committee and Clubs and Activities Committee

Prayer shawls or lap robes are given to people in need of extra comfort – the sick, the bereaved, and families of deployed military personnel. Many residents of the DWLO community have received prayer shawls made by the group.

Receiving prayer shawls in the picture below are members of the family of LTC Kris Marshall, currently deployed overseas. Viking Cruise: as a dedicated spectator of GPB on TV, I have watched enviously as a Viking longboat, full of happy people, steams through my picture advertising river cruises. Now, for the past ten days, Karl and I were among them – cruising from Budapest to Nuremberg on the “romantic” Danube. The boat was well up to our expectation – our cabin was sparkling clean with a window that slid open for a lungful of the Blue Danube fresh air. In the early morning I could draw aside the curtain and watch the country landscape pass slowly from my bed. Every day we were served superb food which mirrored local dishes of the area, be it Hungarian goulash or German bratwurst. At each docking point sightseeing parties disembarked and piled into buses – once we reached town center, we walked. As a slow walker I puffed and panted to keep up, missing sights because I had to keep my eyes on the cobbled paving stones to avoid stumbling. In this fashion we were whirled from beautiful restful churches, to hilltop castles, to picturesque German villages. Our day in Vienna was outstanding for the rain which came down hard, but we were armed with red umbrellas touchingly handed out by the Russian Captain as we left the ship. Karl came in useful in Vienna, ordering a huge slice of chocolate cake with forbidden cream, while I descended some marble steps to find a palatial marble toilet. Our ship was a new addition to the Viking fleet, and this caused chaos on World

Cup Sunday when the crew was not too sure how to lower public TV screens. Consequently everyone on the ship crowded into the bow where there was a small TV. An American in front of me took up space unreasonably checking baseball on an ipad – that was about the only frustration on board and by the time Germany scored, he had gone to bed. We had two days in Nuremberg at the end of the trip and somehow acquired a guide who took us to a nearby village, Fürth, the home of my German Jewish grandparents – for the first time I was able to breathe the air of my ancestors. On the second day we visited Karl’s family, and I did some shopping and bought a comfortable pair of walking shoes - too late. Diana Peper

New at the boat ramp ~ Sometimes we have to send in the dogs to get the job done. Because the geese were creating a mess on the dock ramp and walkways, the BAC decided to call in the dog to send the geese flocking to another area. Devoted to the task at hand, Bird Dog works diligently monitoring his post 24/7. Please don't bring him treats or food. He's just happy to help and occasionally to play fetch. Regina Lewers

Susan Guss just needs to bind up her brightly colored quilt made of

strips of fabric.

Some members have begun piecing their

contributions to an ongoing quilt project with a red, white and blue theme.

DEL WEBB at LAKE OCONEE (DWLO) CLUBS AND ACTIVITIES ADVISORY COMMITTEE (CAC)

MEETING MINUTES, JULY 14, 2014

Chairman Bob LaClaire opened the meeting at 10:04 AM. In attendance: Walt Lamar, Vice-Chairman; Gerri Iacoboni, Secretary; Regina Lewers, Community Comments Director; Steve Wiker, Director-At-Large; Angela Dysart, Lifestyle Director (LD); Ruth Ann Hendrix, Community Association Manager (CAM); and Bill Fasano, Vice-Chairman, Boat Amenities Committee (BAC).

The July meeting agenda and discussions included the following:

Meeting Minutes: The June meeting minutes were approved by CAC members via email response in advance of the July meeting.

Boat Amenities Committee (BAC): Mr. Fasano presented a summary of the BAC’s July 1, 2014 meeting which included the following topics: Seven-day flex plan; proof of boat insurance; shore-side dock use by small watercraft; dock lighting; storage boxes in boat storage area; waterfowl at the boat ramps. (Full BAC meeting minutes are available on the DWLO community website and are posted at the Club.)

Mr. Fasano was excused from the remainder of the CAC business meeting.

Estate Sales in DWLO Community: CAM will investigate Pulte-wide guidelines and report to the CAC at the August meeting.

Del Webb (DW) Budget for Amenities: CAC discussed the need to survey the DWLO community regarding big-picture capital allocations of the DW budget for amenities. CAM provided sample historic DW surveys and will also obtain Pulte survey templates for the August CAC meeting. At that meeting, CAC will continue to formulate next steps and ultimately forward those recommendations to the Pulte Board of Directors for further discussion and/or approval.

Shade Options for the Dog Park: CAM provided additional quotes from local contractors for various sun shelters for the dog park. CAC identified that each quote was beyond the current HOA budget and each “solution” would not guarantee 100% shade (with the possible exception of personal umbrellas). Given the expense and limitations of shade options researched thus far, CAM will provide a used picnic-table-umbrella and stand near the dog park picnic table and report on its shading effectiveness at the next CAC meeting.

Basketball Hoop/Pole: The basketball hoop and pole have been installed in the parking lot near the boat docks and kayak storage. HOA Maintenance Staff will mark the foul line and CAM will investigate obtaining a “keyhole” stencil for court markings.

CAC Position: Mr. Bob LaClaire will complete his two year term on the CAC at the end of August thus leaving an open position beginning September 1, 2014. Four DWLO residents have applied for the position and will be interviewed on July 21. The selected candidate will begin regular CAC attendance at the August 18 meeting.

Comment Cards: CAC received and addressed four resident Comment Cards as follows:

Card 1: Request a change of outdoor pool hours for children to 10 AM-Noon so as not to disturb adults during 4-6 PM. Response: Current hours will remain in effect for now with notification of a change in hours by the LD or CAM if special events dictate the need. Future consideration of hours through community surveys may change the policy.

Card 2: Suggest installing metal posts and no parking signs to control golf cart traffic on walkways to the docks. Response: CAC agrees that golf cart traffic on walkways near the docks is hazardous to pedestrians, light fixtures, and landscaping/natural vegetation. Signage indicating Pedestrian Access Only will be placed at the dock path by the pavilion leading to the three dock areas. Hopefully, control of traffic will encourage more use of the loading/unloading docks.

Card 3: Suggest installing a bench on Dock D for passenger loading/unloading. Response by BAC: BAC is working with Sales to determine how this suggestion might be funded.

Card 4: Request alternative plan for boat dock utilization. Response by BAC: After the July 4th holiday, the BAC will revisit all dock options to determine what type of usage would be best suited for this high demand time and perhaps for the periods of low demand as well.

There being no further business, Mr. LaClaire adjourned the meeting at 12:49 PM.

The next CAC meeting is Monday, July 21, 2014 at 10:00 AM for CAC candidate interviews.

The next regular CAC business meeting is Monday, August 18 at 10:00 AM.

Respectfully submitted,

Gerri Iacoboni, CAC Secretary
