Pastor’s
Desk:
During the last four years since I have been the pastor of St. Joachim, I have not only come across some of the most memorable experience of my life as a priest but also have met some of the most noble, inspiring, prayerful, sincere, and loving people. Being associated with such people has immensely helped to grow as an individual and as a priest. Their love for God and St. Joachim church has often made me feel so humble before their commitment. Listening to their life story has greatly inspired my life. Being deeply loved by such noble and saintly people is certainly one of the great blessings of God in my life as a priest. One such great couple is Mr. Arthur Cassel and his beloved wife Ms. Dorothy Cassel who celebrated their 68th Wedding anniversary June 14th 2015. Quite a few times I have gone with them for dinner, Black Angus being our favorite place. During our dinner, Ms. Dorothy used to narrate all about their life as a husband and wife.
Both of them studied in the same class. For no reason Ms. Dorothy developed some liking for Mr. Arthur Cassel. As her place in the class room was just behind Mr. Arthur, once in a while she used to kick his leg from behind. As Mr. Arthur had the reputation of one of the well behaved students in the school, he could only suffer in silence without reacting to it. However, after their high school, it was Mr. Arthur who took a fancy for Ms. Dolly and wanted to marry her when they were just 18 years old. But Ms. Dolly was in no mood to marry him so young. But his persistence was so much that they married after three years that is when they were just 21 years old. One thing that she mentioned again and again was that it was not very easy at the beginning. As the initial period of excitement and experiments got settled down, the reality of understanding and adjusting to each other’s likes and dislikes began to take place. This was the most crucial stage. With the smile on their lips, both of them recalled the times when each of them had walked out of the house saying enough is enough only to come back to the house like a thief after two hours! True, they recalled that there were days when we went to bed without
talking to each other only to be all over each other the next day morning! They understood that in order to have a happy family life, they needed to sacrifice their likes and dislikes, for the sake of the other person. That led them to understand and accept one another. While having dinner on their 68th wedding anniversary, recalling their life together as husband and wife for the last 68 years, Mr. Arthur Cassel said, “today, honestly I can say, Dolly is the best thing that happened in my life” And Dolly reciprocated the same feeling by saying the same words. After saying these words, both of them got lost in deep kiss forgetting all their children and the priest sitting nearby! A truly amazing couple - thankful to God of everything particularly for their 6 beloved children who are so united and loving to each other. No wonder I felt a sense of personal loss when I was told that Mr. Arthur Cassel breathed his last on August 11th 2015 surrounded by all his children and his beloved wife Ms. Dolly Cassel. In his death St. Joachim lost a great and beloved son. For me it is truly a personal loss of a beloved friend and a sage. May his soul rest in peace.

sinceras y amorosas. Asociarme con tales
personas me ha ayudado enormemente a
crecer como individuo y como un
Sacerdote. Su amor por Dios y por la
Iglesia San Joaquín a menudo ha hecho
que me sienta tan humilde ante su
compromiso.
Sacerdote. Una gran pareja es el Sr. Arthur
Cassel y su amada esposa Sra. Dorothy
Cassel, quienes celebraron sus 68
aniversarios de boda el 14 de Junio de
2015. Varias veces he ido con ellos a
cenar, Black Angus ha sido nuestro lugar
favorito. Durante nuestra cena, la Sra.
Dorothy solía narrar su vida como marido
y mujer.
Dolly no estaba dispuesta a
Dolly Cassel. En su
muerte San Joaquín perdió a un gran y
amado hijo.
sabio. Que su alma descanse en paz.

Vatican Corner Pope Francis’ doctors have instructed him to “eat less pasta, walk more often, and lose a little weight to take some strain off his aching back." The doctor-ordered plan allows pasta just twice a week. According to his doctors, the Pope has steadily gained weight since arriving at the Vatican in 2013 due to his richer Italian diet and a decrease in exercise. An overbooked, stressful schedule has forced Francis to miss his daily walks, and the weight gain has made him fatigued and is causing him back issues. A healthier diet and more regular exercise should help with all of his health issues, according to the doctors. The carb cutback came just two weeks after the Pope expressed his love for pizza. In an interview in March 2015, Francis said that the two things he misses about his previous life when he wasn’t so recognizable are: freedom and pizza. He longs for the tranquility of walking through the streets, or to go to a pizzeria to eat a good pizza. When the
interviewer pointed out that he can request delivery to the Vatican, Pope Francis insisted, "But it is not the same." Days later a Naples pizza maker after hearing the Pope’s comments, delivered a surprise pizza pie right to the popemobile as the pontiff drove through his city. Regarding the doctors’ instructions, New York’s Cardinal Dolan joking said that his boss should get new doctors and cut calories by taking the green (basil leaves) off his noodles. He joked that next time he is in Rome with the Pope, “it better be on one of those two days that (he’s) eating pasta." Maybe the Pope is following Cardinal Dolan’s suggestion, because Pope Francis now has a new personal doctor and the Vatican City will have a new health services director. The current director is leaving his post and as such will no longer be Francis’ personal physician. He will, however continue his service as private physician to the Pope Emeritus
Benedict XVI and will also hold onto other roles in the Vatican. The Vatican spokesman announced that the doctor was not ousted, he was simply ending his five-year term of service, and a rotation is to be considered normal. Francis’s new personal physician is a 73-year-old internal medicine specialist, who has been a professor of medicine, authored dozens of academic articles, held several positions at a Roman hospital , including Chairman of Hepatology (management of diseases that affect the liver, gallbladder, pancreas etc.) and has been advising the Vatican City Dept. of Health. The new doctor will be accompanying Pope Francis when he visits the United States and Cuba next month. Sources: The Vatican Insider, RomeReports.com, Catholic News Agency, Dailynews.com, People.com
