Audience Research for My Product

Age – The age range that I will target my music video at will be 14-25 year olds. This is because most

of the content and messages that the video will contain will reflect the lifestyle of people this age.

Also, the music that Paolo Nutini has produced is already targeted at an audience of this age, so

making a video that coincides will make sense to the listeners. Having a video that doesn’t reflect the

song will seriously hinder the outcome and popularity of the video, but mostly will not satisfy the

needs and wants from a demanding audience.

Gender – My video will be targeted at both a male and female audience. It doesn’t drastically sway

more towards one gender, but may be found slightly more popular by a male audience. The reason

for this is that the conventions of the video will be able to be interpreted by both genders in a similar

manner. For example, the video will portray lifestyle, fashion, thoughts and comparable mind sets

that both genders will be able to reflect on and enjoy. The reason for it swaying more to a male

audience is that it is in fact following the day of a male protagonist, which may initially seem more

appealing to a male audience. However, this doesn’t mean both genders won’t enjoy it equally enjoy

it. On the contrary, females may also like the video based on the attractiveness of the male in the

video, despite the quality of the song or video.

Socio-economic Status – My target audience will fall in to the socio-economic category of ‘D’ and ‘E’,

and possibly stretching to ‘C2’. As my music video will be targeted at a mass audience, other

categories will also be found in my audiences. However, to make sure that my music video will be as

successful as possible, I will directly target my music video at students and casual workers (E). This is

because the people involved in my music video will be of a similar age and will generate a

connection between the video and audience.
