A new study led by archaeologist Dr. EilatMazar has dated stone fortifications in J eru-

Contradicted by the study is the viewcommonly held by conventional historiansthat biblical accounts of the time are largelymythical, and that there was no governmentin that period capable of building such a re-

P/2010 A2 was first discovered by theLINEAR (Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Re-search program) sky survey on January 6.

he evidence is mounting: placebos actu-ally work. Mind really does rule matter

and it can be proven. A new study in the pre-stigious British medical journal Lancet con-cedes that there is increasing data to suggestthat fake treatments have an actual biolog-ical effect on the body.

Placebos are harmless dummy medicineswith no known physical benefit which areoften prescribed by physicians for purely psy-chological reasons or as part of double blindmedical experimentation.

According to the somewhat incredulousexperts, it is peoples expectation of healingand their belief in the power of the inert sub-stances prescribed which seems to do the

job.Doctors, says the study, have long be-

lieved that placebos can help people feelbetter but have doubted that anything medi-cally significant was happening. In the study, though, patients with Parkinsons diseasewere given dummy pills which led theirbrains to release dopamine which not onlymade them feel better but also initiated otherpositive effects on the brain which could bemeasured.

Western materialistic medicine appears tobe approaching a point where its own in-ternal contradictions are becoming cleareven to its own most ardent proponents. I fthe mind is capable of generating healing

without the aid of some actual chemicalagent, who is to say what is the real cause ofhealing which may occur after the adminis-tration of officially approved treatments?

Does the accomplishment of healing belongto the doctor or to the mind of the patient? For patients, a little more positive thinkingseems to be in order, and for doctors, per-haps a tincture of humility is indicated.

he magnificent art found in cavesthroughout Europe has long amazed re-

searchers. The stunning skill with which so-called primitives managed to capture thecolor and realism of their environment wasclearly the work of genius. But still the con-ventional view has been that the creatorswere preliterate and that it would be manymillennia before they learned to expressthemselves in writing. That conventionalview may be due for reconsideration, though. It turns out that previously unnoticed mark-ings found in the paintings were actually partof a written language.

According to the web site NewScien-tist.com, researcher Genevieve von Petzingerof the University of Victoria in British Co-lumbia has carefully analyzed the markingsfrom 146 sites in France said to be createdfrom 35,000 to 10,000 years ago. The studyclearly revealed 26 frequently recurring signs

T evidently indicating the use of some kind ofsymbolic language. Written language waspreviously believed to have dawned about5000 years ago.

Curiously, one of the symbols is agrouping of seven dots, as shown here in theHall of the Bulls in the caves at Lascaux,France. In the 1990s, researcher Frank Edgeshowed a strong correlation between thoseseven dots and the constellation of thePleiades. Later Dr. Michael Rappenglueck aprofessor at the University of Munich reaf-firmed that the painting reveals a map of thenight sky. Rappenglueck said the configura-tion shows the three bright stars known asthe summer triangle as well as the Pleiades.

Were the precocious humans who deco-rated the caves speaking to each other in alanguage derived from star lore? Further re-search may tell us.

ill the world end in 2012? Someauthorsas well as some Holly-wood producersargue as muchand are making loud and very dis-

turbing predictions of catastrophic disasterensuing from the convergence of numerous

planetary and cosmic cycles. Others expectthe dawn of a New Age as the gods or ETsmake a long-awaited return to our littleplanet. The current explosion of 2012 hys-teria is not unlike the hue and cry of the1980s and 90s when the hot, threateningphenomenon of the day was pole shift. My1980 book Pole Shift covered the subject indepth, and the lessons I learned from that ex-perience, I believe, have much relevance for

those today looking fordoomsday in 2012.

In the early 1970s, when I was working inCalifornia as Director of Education for theInstitute of Noetic Sciences (founded byApollo 14 astronaut Edgar Mitchell, the sixthman on the moon), there was a widespreadrumor that the West Coast was going to ex-perience a terrible earthquake and a largeportion of it would fall into the ocean. Thisrumor owed much to the psychic readings ofEdgar Cayce, the sleeping prophet. In the1930s, Cayce had predicted vast changes inthe geography of our planet. He called themearth changes. There would be terribleearthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and the riseand fall of land masses, he said. They wouldbegin in the second half of this century andincrease in intensity, culminating at the endof the century in what Cayce described asthe shifting of the poles.

Over the years these predictions had per-meated the psychic community and set upthe expectation of terrible global destruction. Some people came to IONS with messages ofthat sort. The people were well-intended andsimply wanted us to alert the world. I lis-tened with interest to their warnings because

    W

BY JOHN WHITEpart of the Institutes mission was to applypsychic functioning to planetary problems. But it wasnt our role to warn the publiccivic officials do thatso I turned down allrequests for help in publicizing forecasts ofearthquakes, UFO landings, and so forth. Itproved to be the best policy because in allcases the predictions were wrong.

    Nevertheless, my interest in precognition

and psychic forecasting remained high, espe-cially with regard to predictions of global de-struction involving Cayces notion of a poleshift. So in 1973, I began to investigate thesubject. During six years of research, I gath-ered a large amount of data supporting thetwo principal questions I had asked myself:Have there been previous pole shifts? Mightthere be one in the near future? The evi-dence came from three sources: ancientprophecies, contemporary psychics, and sci-entifically-oriented researchers.

It pointed toward this conclusion: Yes,Earth had experienced pole shifts before andwould again in the near futureat the endof the century.

The pole shift concept indicates a suddenand radical displacement of the planets axisof rotation oran alternate view among poleshift theoristsa slippage of the planetssolid crust over the molten interior so thatthe polar locations change. Thus, pole shiftmeans an event in which the North andSouth geographic poles moveas much as180, according to some sourceseither be-cause the planet tumbles in space, changingits angular position relative to the sun, or be-cause the geographical points on the surfaceof the planet marking its spin axis are shifteddue to crustal slippage. The time involved issaid by most sources to vary from a few daysto as little as a few hours.

What would result from a pole shift? Itcan be described as the ultimate disaster.Enormous tidal waves would roll across thecontinents as the oceans became displacedfrom their basins. Electrical storms withhurricane winds of hundreds of miles per

hour would sweep the planet. Tremendousearthquakes and lava flows would wrack theland. Poisonous gases and ash would fill theskies. Geography would be altered as seabedsrose and land masses submerged. Climateswould change instantly. And if the shift wereless than a full end-over-end, the polar icecaps, exposed to strong sunlight by havingmoved out of the frigid zones, would melt

rapidlywithin a few hundred years atmostwhile new ice caps would begin tobuild at the new polar locations. Last of all, huge numbers of organisms would be de-stroyed, including people, with signs of theirexistence hidden under thick layers of debris, sediment, and ice or at the bottom of newlyestablished seas.

In 1980 I published my book Pole Shift, which presented the evidence Id gathered(It is still in print.) But I said that presenting

a case is not the same thing

as proving a case. I pointed out that therewas a strong case against pole shifts, therewere many unanswered questions, and that Ineither believed nor disbelieved the conceptbut was simply raising questions as a jour-nalist rather than giving answers as a scien-tist or psychic.

I continued to gather data bearing on thetopic and by 1990 I felt a conclusion wasclearly evident. I published a Pole Shift Up-date inThe Meeting of Science and Spirit. Iconcluded that the pole shift concept is un-tenable; it is based on incomplete evidenceand misinterpretation of data. I also con-cluded that the psychics who foresaw an-other one were wrong because the precursorevents they predicted hadnt occurred, andthe time for their occurrence was long past.

The year 2000 came and went without thepredicted disasters. Today, a decade later, itis more than obvious the predictions andprophecies were just plain wrong.

Does that mean there was no value towhat I reported? Not at all. However, the

he Genesis Secret by Thomas Knox(HarperCollins, 2009, and see alsothe website http://thegenesissecret.com) is a novel centered around the

discovery in southeast Turkey of the proto-Neolithic megalithic complex of Gobekli

Tepe, constructed ca. 10,000 BC by an un-known race of people at the end of the lastIce Age.

Thomas Knox is the nom-de-plume ofBritish journalist Sean Thomas, who firstcontacted me back in 2007. He had becomeinterested in Gobekli Tepe, which I d writtenabout extensively since visiting there andnearby Harran back in 2004. He wanted toknow how to get to the megalithic complex,so Sue and I gave him the necessary instruc-tions. A few months later, his article on thesubject appeared in newspapers worldwide. Ithighlighted the fact that Dr. Klaus Schmidt, the German archaeologist in charge of exca-vations at the site, had unofficially admittedthat the region was most probably the bib-lical Garden of Eden. This, of course, was theconclusion I made in From the Ashes of An-gels, published in 1996, which providesample evidence that Eden was located wherethe headwaters of the Tigris, Euphrates, andGreater Zab rivers converge, a region closeto Lake Van in southeast Turkey (a brandnew theory at that time). My book appearedfour years before the first announcementsregarding the discovery in 1994 of Gobekli

Tepe, which is even now being uncovered bySchmidt and his team. What I stated also wasthat the heretical Jewish work known as theBook of Enoch, spoke of Edenknown also

as Paradise or Heavenas being thehome of the Watchers, a race of mythical be-ings often identified as human-like angels.

They are credited with having revealed theforbidden arts and sciences of Heaven tomortal kind, causing mankinds fall from di-vine grace and his expulsion from theGarden of Eden.

The Story of the WatchersIn both the Book of Genesis and the Book

of Enoch, the rebel Watchers are said also tohave come upon the Daughters of Men, i.e.mortal women, who afterwards gave birth togiant offspring called Nephilim. For this

transgression against the laws of Heaven, therenegades were incarcerated and punishedby those Watchers who had remained loyalto Heaven. The rebel Watchers offspring, theNephilim (a word meaning those who fell),were either killed outright or were after-wards destroyed in the flood of Noah. How-ever, the Torahthe first five books of theOld Testamentmakes it clear that someNephilim survived and went on to becomethe ancestors of giant races named as the An-akim, Gibborim and Rapheim.

I wrote that the story of the Watchers isin fact the memory of a priestly or shamanic

fication of the eyes took place amongwoman, the first drilled beads in ultra hardstone were produced, the first alcohol wasbrewed and distilled, etc., etc. In fact, manyof the arts and sciences of Heaven that theWatchers are said to have revealed to mortalkind were all reported first in this region ofthe globe, known to archaeologists as UpperMesopotamia, and to the indigenous peoplesof the region as Kurdistan.

Sean Thomas acknowledges my help atthe beginning of theThe Genesis Secret,

elite, a group of highly intelligent, humanindividuals, that entered the Upper Eu-phrates region from another part of the an-cient world sometime around the end of thelast Ice Age, ca. 11,000-10,000 BC. On theirarrival in what became known as the land orkingdom of Eden (a term actually used in

the Old Testament), they assumed control ofthe gradually emerging agrarian communi-ties, who were tutored in a semi-rural lifestyle centered around agriculture, metalworking, and the rearing of animal livestock.More disconcertingly, these people weremade to venerate their superiors; i.e. theWatchers, as living gods, or immortals.

The precise same region of the Near East, now thought to be the biblical Garden ofEden, has long been held to be the cradle ofcivilization. Here a number of firsts oc-curred at the beginning of the Neolithic rev-olution, which began ca. 10,000-9000 BC. It

he theory that so-called emptyspace is actually a vibrant ocean ofenergy makes perfect sense andseems self-evident to some of us.

There really is no other explanation forhow billions of stars obtain the power to con-tinuously put out prodigious amounts ofheat and light for, what appears to be, indefi-nite periods of time. In the face of this, toargue that the universe is just a vacuum ofdead nothingness is almost as senseless ascontending that the earth is flat even though

the sun rises and sets every day. And yet, theworldwide scientific community, men andwomen of high intelligence and tremendouscumulative knowledge, refuses to acknowl-edge that this could be so. Even when it isclearly demonstrated, as it was by Dr. T.Henry Moray, they assume it to be some sortof trickery or fraud, and they return to stalescientific dogma.

In the early 1920s, Moray, who was a boy-hood admirer of Nikola Tesla, built a free-energy device, weighing about sixty poundswith no apparent power input, that produced50,000 watts of electricity for several hours.Moray, from Salt Lake City, obtained his doc-torate in Electrical Engineering from theUniversity of Uppsala in Sweden in 1918. Bythe 1930s, Moray had perfected his inventionand was able to demonstrate, in test aftertest, that the device delivered high voltageelectrical power simply by tapping ambientenergy.

In a well-documented and photographeddemonstration, Morays Radiant Energy De-vice powered 35 100-watt light bulbs and a1200-watt iron. Morays highly publicizeddemonstrations to scientists, engineers, andgovernment representatives convinced themall that Moray had succeeded in tapping aninvisible, universal sea of energy. The Ra-diant Energy Device utilized 29 transistor-

like, cold vacuum tube valves, or one-waygates, that trapped the energy and accumu-lated it until it reached a high wattage. De-spite all of the publicity surrounding this de-vice, the U.S. Patent Office never grantedhim a patent. Moray met with constant oppo-sition. He was frequently threatened; his la-boratory was broken into and robbed, and hewas actually shot at in the streets and in hisown office. He eventually installed bullet-proof glass in his automobile, and he kept aloaded gun in plain view on his desk whenmeeting with strangers.

    T

Space-TimeOne of the theoretical keys to the under-

standing of the Radiant Energy Device wasthe work of Hermann Minkowski, a brilliantGerman mathematician. It was Minkowskiwho, in 1907, created the mathematicalframework that brought space and time to-gether and evolved the concept of space-time. Minkowski was inspired by Einsteins1905 Theory of Special Relativity and real-ized that Special Relativity required an en-tirely new definition of the relationship be-tween space and time. He was able to provemathematically that time is a fourth dimen-sion of space, and he hypothesized a four-dimensional space-time continuum. Thisrevolutionized Galileos flat view of space-time in which only simultaneous eventswere on the same plane in space-time, andsubstituted a space-time, non-Euclidiancone in which event timing is relative to the

observer while the speed of light remains aconstant. Einstein then, in 1908, using Min-kowskis framework, developed the Theory ofGeneral Relativity, which is now universallyaccepted, and has become the foundation ofmodern physics. The Einstein-Minkowskiframework of space-time supersedes the Gal-ilean concept of Absolute Time. Time nowbecomes relative, and time and space be-come interdependent; and it becomes pos-sible to convert one to the other. As thefourth dimension of space, time has its ownaxis in a Minkowski Diagram.

Maxwewas the first to include light waves and phtons in the electromagnetic spectrum, anhe proved mathematically that all electrmagnetic radiation moved at the speed light. Thus, this constant became an integrcomponent of Einsteins famous formulatioE=mc2, where c is the speed of light.

It shoube noted here that both Maxwell and Mikowski were mathematical theoreticians anmade their proofs strictly with pure mathmatics. It was up to Einstein to translatheir results to the realm of physics. Eisteins formulas have been demonstrated the real world many times, although nwhere as dramatically as in the developme

As a researcher of other forms of alteredstates, I find the clarity and consistency ofNDEs compelling. In remote viewing, medi-tation, shamanic journeying, or other formsof altered states, one can have similar experi-ences: being dislocated from the body, en-countering other beings and intelligences, and even having vivid intuitive or clairvoyantperceptions. Yet the contents of these alteredstates tend to be quite varied and contain ele-ments colored by a persons belief system andcultural beliefs. These kinds of experiencesrarely can be recalled with the clarity ofNDEs months and years later or have thesame long-term impact on a persons life. Itmakes me wonder if it is the complete separ-ation from the physical body and brain thatgives rise to the profound clarity and impactof NDEs.

When I asked Dr. Long what he thoughtabout the quality of consciousness in NDE,he said, Were saying that consciousness canexist apart from the body, and it does thisfairly regularly. Now during our everyday, waking state, I dont think were aware ofthat. Perhaps you can be during meditation

or other alert, conscious experiences. How-ever, when youre unconscious or clinicallydead, you have that ability to be aware ofwhat another person is thinking or feeling. This is clearly a shared consciousness.

This assertion of separation of conscious-ness from the body in NDEs seems to sup-port the philosophical thesis of dualism: thatmind and matter are independent sub-stances, neither of which can be reduced tothe other. Some of the strongest critics ofthe validity of NDEs are scientists who arealso materialists who believe that conscious-ness is simply an epiphenomenon of thebrain. For some materialists, there is no pos-

sible evidence that could convince them ofsomething that is false to begin with; hence, there is no point in arguing the matter. Thephilosopher and NDE research NealGrossman has suggested that for peoplewhose belief in materialism is more an ide-ology than a working hypothesis, we coulduse the term fundamaterialst.

The verdict of materialistic science is usu-ally that, although the reported NDEs aremost certainly real and powerful, they can beexplained more easily in terms of the brainand its altered states of consciousness thanin terms of consciousness being separatefrom the brain and interacting with it. This

case is often made regardless of the qualityand quantity of evidence that it may not be amechanistic phenomenon. This view is per-haps most strongly argued by neuroscien-tists, biologists and even psychologists whospend their whole lives in the realm of thephysical brain.

A recent proposed explanation for NDEswas published in the Journal of Neurologysuggesting that Rapid Eye Movement (REM)intrusions may cause NDEs. Common exam-ples of REM intrusion occur in phenomenasuch as sleep paralysis and hypnagogia. This

lore of aboriginal societies all over the world. The typical NDE experience generally in-cludes some, but not all, of the following ele-ments: separation from the physical body;heightened senses; intense and generally pos-itive feelings; passing into or through atunnel; encountering a mystical or brilliantlight; encountering other beings, often rela-tives; a life review; encountering unworldlyrealms; and encountering or learning specialknowledge.

NDEs are a popular topic. There aremany books on the subject ranging fromscholarly research to personal accounts, all ofwhich have been scoffed at by mainstreamscientific researchers. No doubt this bookwill also spark similar criticism since whatNDEs offer goes contrary to the materialisticparadigm that is predominant in our culture.Dr. Long is proposing that there is undeni-able and verifiable proof that NDEs are realand they can be studied. I asked him to definewhat he meant by real. He said, It is some-thing that actually happened that is part ofreality. Anything that is consistently observedis real. Materialist scientists have staunchly

held that the content of NDEs are hallucina-tory fabrications of the brain and have nobasis in reality.

Dr. Longs research is based on personalreports collected on the web and does haveroom for fabrication, exaggeration, and lan-guage constraints. Thus it will likely be ques-tioned and challenged for validity. Of coursethe staunch materialists will ask for physicalproof, which is difficult to come by. Yet, it isthe consistency and content of the over 1300reports that have been collected that haveconvinced Dr. long and led him to proposenine lines of evidence proving that they arereal. To briefly summarize, they are:

1 - It is medically inexplicable to have ahighly organized and lucid experi-ence while unconscious or clinicallydead.

2 - Experiencers may see and hear inthe out-of-body state, and their per-ceptions are nearly always real.

3 - NDEs occur during general anes-thesia when no form of conscious-ness should be taking place.

4 - NDEs take place among those whoare blind, and these NDEs often in-clude visual experiences.

5 - There is a life review of real events,

many of which had been forgottenby the individual.

6 - Experiencers encounter deceasedbeings and relatives.

7 -The consistency of the experiencesof young children with adults sug-gests NDEs are not due to preex-isting beliefs.

8 - The reports are consistent aroundthe world from different cultures.

9 - Experiences are transformed in pro-found ways by their experience, often for life.

Ill look briefly at a couple of these linesof evidence, starting with Out-of-Body (OBE)experiences. OBEs occur in approximately50% of NDEs. While in the OBE people per-ceive things they simply couldnt know byphysical means. There are many documenteddescriptions of events occurring aroundwhere the persons body is, in an operatingroom or at an accident scene. In one report awoman saw a tennis shoe on a third-storywindow ledge of the hospital. She describedit as a mans shoe, left footed, dark blue witha wear mark over the left toe. A curiousnurse heard the story and looked outthrough all the windows of the hospital untilshe did find that shoe exactly as described. InDr. Longs research, he claims 97% of theOBE experiences that were described were

    entirely realistic without any unrealisticcontent.

It is this lucidity that is also one of thehallmarks of the NDE and Longs first line ofevidence. A large percentage of the case re-ports in his study occurred when the personwas clinically dead. In this state, the hearthas stopped beating, blood has stoppedflowing into the brain, and the electroen-cephalogram (EEG), which measures brainactivity, has gone flat. Though there maystill be some lingering electrical activity inthe lower parts of the brain, one would ex-pect any conscious experience to be frag-mentary, delusional, or dreamlike. Yet 80%

of experiencers described their thinkingduring the NDE as clearer than usual oras clear as usual. They also often have vividrecollection of these events, continuing formany years after the experience. These expe-riences contradict the materialist view thatconsciousness is a product of the brain. If itwere so, awareness should be diminished orabsent during clinical death. However, this isexactly when many experiencers lucidly re-port the happenings around their bodies. Asthe experience progresses, the intensity oftheir emotions and the clarity of theirthinking increases rather than decreases.

he eight-year-old boy had been sob-bing into his mothers lap for fifteenminutes. Now he straightened up. Heand his mother and father stood on

the gently rocking deck of an oceangoingfishing boat that was moored some distanceoffshore in Chichi-Imas Futami-Ko harbor.Around them rose up the green mountains ofthis Pacific island that is close to Iwo Jimaand 650 miles from Tokyo, Japan. It was Sep-

tember 4, 2006.As the crew watched in rapt, awed silence, the boy picked up a bouquet of flowers, walked to the boats side, and threw it over-board. He returned to his mother andsobbed for a few minutes more.

The bouquet floated in the dark-bluechoppy waters. Far below, on the bottom ofthe harbor, lay the rusted hulk of a WorldWar Two FM-2 Corsair fighter plane. Insiderested the bleached bones of 21-year-old en-sign James McCready Huston Jr., VC-81,killed in action on March 3, 1945, during afierce battle with the Japanese.

The eight-year-old boy was James Lei-ninger, of Lafayette, Louisiana. He believedhe was the reincarnation of the gallant war-rior whose earthly remains lay hundreds offeet below. In tossing him the bouquet, theboy was bidding farewell to his previous selfof whose presence he had been aware, as if itwere a second personality, since he was twoyears old.

Now James felt bereft but finally freedfrom a beloved burden.

This heartrending if unparalleled scene isthe culminating event in Soul Survivor: TheReincarnation of a World War II FighterPilot, by Jamess parents Bruce and AndreaLeininger (J une 2009). It tells how, six years

before, J ames began to have fre-quent nightmares in which hescreamed and from which heawoke with words like, Air-plane crash on fire, little mancant get out. James becameobsessively interested in fighterplanes, identifying obscureparts like drop tanks. He madecrayon drawings of crashingplanes, signing them James 3and insisting the pilot was James 2. His

mother and grandmother wondered if a pre-vious reincarnation were involved. CarolBowman, a therapist skilled in enabling chil-dren to remember and accept their pastlives, was consulted and helped James be-came calmer and more open. He said hisfighter plane, a Corsair, had been shot downby the Japanese, crashing in a bay near Iwo

J ima. He described features of the Corsairand said he had flown from the shipNatoma. He mentioned a name: Jack Larsen.

His father, Bruce, was as stubbornlyskeptical about reincarnation as he was stub-bornly determined to get to the truth. Hescoured the Internet, combing through mili-tary records. He discovered that an aircraftcarrier, Natoma Bay, had been stationednear Iwo Jima in March 1945. He trackeddown pilots who were on Natoma Bay ornear. Attending a reunion of the carriersveterans, he learned that a pilot named

James Huston Jr. had gone down on March3, 1945.

Bruce found and interviewed a real JackLarsen, who knew where James Huston hadgone down. The younger James told himthat Billy, Leon and Walter had met mewhen I went to heaven; Bruce discoveredthat three pilots with these names hadknown Huston and been killed at Iwo J imo

many of James Hustons friends. He becamesad, telling his father this was because eve-ryone is so old.

The family appeared on nationally-syndicatedABC Primetimeon April 15, 2004

The program provoked great interest, in-cluding phone calls from other vets whowere able to give Bruce additional informa-tion and further support J amess belief thathe had once been James Huston. A Japanesenetwork invited the Leiningers to Tokyo tofilm an interview; the producers would coverall costs and pay a fee. After the filming camethe 650-mile sea voyage to Chichi-Ima; andat its end, Jamess absolution from hisformer life as Huston.

Was James Leininger really James Hu-ston? The evidence in favor seems over-whelming, though a determined skeptic canalways find much to criticize. But there havebeen other instances where evidence hasemerged, sometimes in a strange and unex-pected fashion, that some traumatized chil-drenoften they are autisticare this waybecause they suffered a violent death, usuallyin wartime, as children in a previous life.
