Presenter
Presentation Notes
This is a perfect example of a program that integrates the community, agriculture and health indicators. The AC F2S program began in 2008 and has been serving 8-11 host-sites per year by placing two members at each location. The community outreach member works to overcome the challenges of procuring local food into the school while the nutrition education member implements innovative farm to school curricula. Activities are varied and include: school gardens, classroom education, farmer visits, snack programs that incorporate local food, and local food test tastings. DATCP has been working with the UW – Departments of Family Medicine and Nutritional Science and have found that students participating in the program have increased their knowledge and attitudes as well as consumption of fruit and vegetables through improved access to fruits and vegetables in the meal programs.
