2013 EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Dear Friends and Colleagues, On behalf of ASOPRS, I am pleased to invite you to attend the 2013 ASOPRS Spring Meeting in historic Newport, RI from June 6-9, 2013. In keeping with tradition, this Spring Meeting will combine a superb scientific and practice management program with family-oriented social activities. Mike Yen and the Program Committee have wonderfully organized this year’s program. There will be presentations on topics ranging from oncology updates to evolving payment models to ethics to practice management. We are also planning Lessons from the Masters sessions. There will also be ample time for free papers. The YASOPRS pre-meeting workshop will be on Thursday June 6, focusing on public speaking and making scientific presentations, and will be open to YASOPRS members and ASOPRS fellows-in-training. The meeting will be held at the Hyatt Regency in Newport. Situated on Goat Island and surrounded by Narragansett Bay, the hotel offers the seclusion of a private island, just minutes to downtown Newport. There are complimentary land and water shuttles to downtown Newport. The hotel offers an outdoor saltwater pool and indoor heated pool, 24 hour StayFit gym, yoga classes, and the Stillwater Spa. Newport has a storied history. The first English settlers, led by Anne Hutchinson, arrived on Aquidneck Island in 1636 and Newport was founded in 1639 and became one of the busiest ports in the colonies. There are many remnants of the colonial era still present in the city. The City by the Sea also became the summer playground for the wealthy in the Gilded Age at the end of the 19th century. The Newport Mansions, beach houses for the industrialists of that time, are now open to the public as examples of the opulence of that era. Other attractions include the International Tennis Hall of Fame, Narragansett Bay, and many great shops and restaurants. The meeting will kick off with the President’s Reception on Thursday evening. The new members of ASOPRS will be inducted at the reception so please make every effort to arrive early enough to welcome our newest colleagues. We are planning kayaking and our annual golf tournament for Friday afternoon. We are also planning a trolley tour culminating with a tour of the Breakers Mansion. On Saturday we have scheduled a sailing schooner tour of Narragansett Bay and a walking tour of historic Newport. On Saturday night the banquet will be an old fashioned clam bake overlooking the bay. As a native Rhode Islander, I have always enjoyed Newport and I know you will too. Mike Michael Migliori, ASOPRS President and the ASOPRS Program Committee and CME Subcommittee Michael Yen, Dave Lyon, Rob Fante, Andy Harrison, Mark Lucarelli, Peter Sneed, Randal Pham, Mark Mazow, Sheri DeMartelaere and Cat Burkat.
