Welcome from Georgina

As the 2014 exhibition programme draws to a close, I would like to thank those who have attended shows, talks and events at the Arts Centre over the past year. A special thank you also, to all the Artists who have taken part.

For January and February 2015, we host the Material Differences exhibition. This is a mixed, group show by SCAN (Somerset Contemporary Artists Network) artists and is curated by Diane Burnell and Caroline Mornement.

In the coming year, the exhibition programme will be weaved into the fabric of school life here, offering new opportunities for a range of mediums and subjects to be explored. Watch this space for further information on our participation in North Somerset Arts Week in May 2015.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Arts Centre in the near future.

Saturday 17 January to Saturday 21 February 2015

Opening times: Thursdays and Fridays 11am to 6pm and Saturdays 10am to 4pm (last entry half hour before close). Entry is free.

Curated by Diane Burnell and Caroline Mornement, Material Differences is a group show featuring seven members of the Somerset Contemporary Artists Network (SCAN).

Georgina Conroy – Mixed MediaLeah Hislop – Spun Fleeceashar – Mixed Media on PlasterCaroline Mornement – Etching and PrintmakingEmma Duke – Driftwood SculptureLucy Lean – Mixed Media and Textiles

All have been selected by Burnell (whose paintings will be exhibited) for their innovative use of unfamiliar materials. Although travelling their own singular paths, there are many instances where their journeys criss-cross, intersect and overlap.

SCAN is an artist-led group which exists to support artists and create opportunities to network with and be supported by like-minded creatives. They have strong links to Somerset Arts Works.

Expect a range of exciting works from Leah Hislop and her haunting, site-specific installations, reminiscent of spiders webs or the human nervous system, and textile pieces inspired by the patterns occurring in the creation of life and nature by Lucy Lean. Georgina Conroy’s inner city upbringing informs her grimy, gritty compositions whilst ashar (yes, with a small “a”) builds layer upon layer on a personal yet experimental art base, informed by memories and experiences.

All materials are provided. Children aged 7 years or above are welcome to attend alone, but we do ask parents to stay with younger children.
