The Nerve Centre has been a provider of niche andinnovative conference space since its opening morethan 10 years ago.

Within our building there are a variety of spacesavailable which deliver specialist space for a widevariety of clients from arts organisations to corporateclients and from digital creatives to business users.

As a community based organisation at the heart ofthe city we also cater for family groups, charities andcommunity associations.

Whatever the event, from fairs to special interestmeetings, from parties to lectures and from corporatelaunches to charity fundraisers, the Nerve Centre hasthe flexibility to meet all your requirements.

Perhaps our most familiar space is our Main Venue,which is known to many music fans as the premiere livemusic venue in the North West. However, the MainVenue also comes alive as a conference facility andmeeting facility for corporate clients, public agenciesand community organisations.

The Nerve Centre also has two intimate and highspecification screening rooms, perfect for specialscreenings, lectures, performances and birthday parties,of course.

As well as our Main Venue and cinemas, the NerveCentre also contains a number of versatile spacesincluding a series of small to medium meeting roomsand boardroom type facilities.

The Nerve Centre is Northern Ireland's leadingcombined arts and multimedia centre and so all spaceshave an array of audio visual aids available to the clientand a team of technical staff on hand to facilitate allyour requirements.

Flexibility and friendliness are the watchword for theNerve Centre and it's staff. Our spaces can be used in avariety of combinations tailored for your specificrequirements, which sets the Nerve Centre as a spaceapart.

SpecificationsThis 620 standing capacity Venue has catered for avariety of conferences and events from intimate showsin the round, to fashion events, skateboarding displays,theatre and comedy performances, public debates andmajor live music events. The Main Venue has enormousflexibility and can seat 50 to 220 people. It has twoback projectors and screens, a full controllable lighting

system and the premier installed analogue soundsystem in Northern Ireland.

In addition to the Main Venue the Nerve Centre cansupport your conference by providing access to ourFoyer Exhibition and Reception area and the cateringroom which represents all that is left of the original shirtfactory that once occupied the site; with its vaultedceilings and massive wooden crossbeams, it makes anexcellent space for more grown up birthday partiesand events.

Café NervosaCatering is an essential part of any conferenceexperience and the Nerve Centre is able to providefull catering facilities through our on site café andrestaurant, Café Nervosa. A range of buffet and à lacarte menus are available on request.

Foyer Exhibition & Reception arealeading to Screening Room 1Screening Room 1 is conveniently placed on theNerve Centre's ground floor, beside our foyer ExhibitionSpace and Reception area, it has proved a very popularspace for private functions and publicity events.

This recently refurbished, 60 seat state of the art digitalcinema, is capable of high definition and 3D screening.It has been used for small conferences and events,children's parties, intimate acoustic shows, theatricalperformances as well as lecture and seminar sessions.

Digital Archive Room &Screening Room 2Surrounded by murals depicting the photographichistory of Derry and Northern Ireland, this largeairy space is perfect for less formal launches andgatherings of up to 60 people. It provides a seriesof screens, comfortable informal seating and as itis adjacent to Screening Room 2 ,they can be hiredtogether to offer the combination of casual andformal. Screening Room 2 is a comfortable 40 seatcinema perfectly suited to small or extended familygroup screenings, talks or lectures. It has a similartechnical specification to screening room 1 and islocated next to the Digital Archive Room inMagazine Studios.

BoardroomsOur main boardroom, originally developed as the'star's' dressing room, the Boardroom has recentlyundergone a major refurbishment. Its roundtabledesign, high definition screening facilities andviews over the city walls, provide a perfect securespace for 10-15 person meetings. In addition, wehave two further meeting rooms contained withinour sister building, Magazine Studios. Set highabove the town on the second floor, these state ofthe art boardrooms have proved popular with botharts development groups and corporate clients.Seating 12, both rooms have full disabled accessand onsite catering is available.

Screening Room 3This black box space with curtained walls will caterfor 25 seated and has HD screening facilities.

Café NervosaCatering is an essential part of any conferenceexperience and the Nerve Centre is able to providefull catering facilities through our on site café andrestaurant, Café Nervosa. A range of buffet and a lacarte menus are available on request. Café Nervosa isalso available for hire for smaller conferences, eventsand private parties.

highereducationThe Nerve Centre is an award winning multi media artscentre that is engaged in providing access to facilities,training, education, exhibition and production for manyyoung and unemployed people in Derry and NorthernIreland.

The Nerve Centre was established in 1990 as a focalpoint for youth culture in Derry, Northern Ireland'ssecond city. By bringing popular music, film, video,animation and interactive multimedia together underone roof, the Nerve Centre promotes creativecollaboration and fusion between artists and providesa cultural outlet for many young people who feelexcluded from what is traditionally regarded as the"arts sector".

Skills Development & InnovationThe Nerve Centre has provided full time trainingopportunities to over 900 individuals as part of itstraining programmes at the centre over the past 20years. Price Waterhouse evaluated our training andconfirmed a 70% success rate with 70% of completersmoving to employment or further education as a directresult of the training.

Furthermore, the Nerve Centre has combinedproduction through films such as the Oscarnominated ‘Dance Lexie Dance’ and others toprovide valuable work experience for the trainees.There are a number of individual success storieswith at least trainees setting up their ownbusinesses over the years. Furthermore, over 50%of the current staff are former trainees of theNerve Centre having come through full timecourses at the centre.

Current CoursesThe Nerve Centre’s annual full-time vocational coursescontinue to attract students from all over Ireland andbeyond. The courses are tutored by industry professionalswho bring their practical experience of studio engineering,live performance, recording, songwriting, festival andtelevision production into the classroom through lessons,tutorials and seminars.

All of our full-time courses are NVQ - Level 3 OCNAwards for Progression, have a duration of one year andare run in partnership with South West College. As a resultof completing our courses, successful students have theopportunity to advance to third level education and into acareer in the creative industries.

Music Performance & TechnologyA comprehensive, hands on approach is at the heart of this musicrich course, with units in song-writing, digital music composition,mixing and live sound. You will have opportunities to work as amember of the Nerve Centre production crew and by the conclusionof the course shall be self-sufficient in many areas of musicproduction, arrangement and sequencing thereby enabling youto take control of your creative output.

Diploma In Video TechniquesThis course gives the student an overall understanding of theproduction process and techniques, not only for video work, butalso for many other areas of the media industry. The course is ofparticular interest to those looking for a low level entry into theindustry, but will be equally useful for potential media degreestudents and community workers wanting to get professionalresults. Opportunities exist for learners to progress onto relevantHigher Education courses.

Music ProductionThis course is designed to provide students with a wide array of skillsassociated with the theory and process of making and recordingmusic in the modern digital studio. Students will be introduced tothe key concepts of programming, recording, mixing and masteringmusic and audio in various genres through a series of detailedexercises and practical projects. There is a strong emphasis on thecreative adaptation of standard techniques and the development ofpersonal practice.

Creative TechnologyAll of the units in this course are primarily geared towards givingstudents a good working knowledge of industry standard software/hardware, procedures and their application. This will include instruc-tion in - but not restricted to - Adobe Creative Suite, Final Cut, LogicStudio and Avid Pro Tools. The modules have been designed to pro-vide a clear pathway for creative media practitioners to 3rd level edu-cation and as such it has direct links to the South West College andits ground breaking Foundation Degree in Creative Technologies.

The Nerve Centre promotes over 80 performancesannually as well as the internationally recognised FoyleFilm Festival which is now in its 24th year.

Every year there is a great mix of festivals, events andworkshops. Our annual programme of events includesour *Showcase Music conference, Celtronic andAmericana Festivals.

Our live music venue regularly hosts a variety ofinternational acts, such as Scouting for Girls, SinéadO’Connor, Snow Patrol, Michael McIntyre, and DavidGray.

The Nerve Centre’s artistic output has also gained it aninternational reputation with an Oscar nomination forthe short film ‘Dance, Lexie, Dance’ in 1998, a BAFTAnomination for the animated film, ‘The Crumble Giant’in 2008 and its ongoing collaboration with local visualartist Willie Doherty, garnering a nomination for the2003 Turner Prize.

The centre is a major regional hub for the creativeindustries in Northern Ireland producing films, videos,music recordings, digital media content and majorregional websites, such as www.culturenorthernireland.com.

Throughout the year we also run a series of tasterworkshops in music and digital music in the run up tothe recruitment of our full time courses in September.

We also have a programme of drums, bass and guitarlessons which cater for all levels and styles with musicreading and grades also available. Our Rehearsalrooms are now available 24/7 with opening hoursand Twilight Sessions for anytime booking to suit thebusy lifestyle of performing musicians.

Throughout the year we also have our annual FoyleFilm Festival and Cinema programme which includesthe Kids Club screenings at Christmas and summertimes.

The Nerve Centre has also had a central role insupporting a host of other organisations withinthe city and in particular advancing the festivalprogramme within the city. We have partneredwith Interact: Youth Arts Festival and the MaidenCity Festival to bring you the best in local talentperforming at the Nerve Centre and the annualInteract Rock School.

We're delighted that in the run up to City of Culture2013, the Nerve Centre remains a hub for arts andmusical activity in the city.
