Q. why should i start an nAhs/nJAhs chapter?

A. The NAHS/NJAHS programs provide avenues for recognition of artistic talents and opportunities for leadership roles for visual art students, while spotlighting the success and community work of your school’s art program.

Q. As chapter sponsor, what should i expect?

A. Being an NAHS/NJAHS sponsor is an important and rewarding endeavor. A successful sponsor creates a program in which activities are managed and facilitated by student members. Core sponsor duties:

• Collectandsubmitstudentduesandchapterroster • OrderanddistributeNAHShonorcords,tassels,pins,andotherhonorsocietyrecognition • Scheduleandmoderatechaptermeetings(atleastfourperyear) • Superviseandassistyourchapterwithcommunityserviceprojects

Q. how often do i need to register my school’s chapter?

A. The NAHS/NJAHS programs run on an academic calendar of July through June. A chapter must be registered every school year to be considered active and remain eligible to receive NAHS benefits.

Q. what is the deadline for submitting my chapter registration?

A. The suggested time frame for registering your chapter is July–January. This allows adequate time for member eligibility and selection, as well as the required 4 weeks to place /receive orders for spring ceremonies.

Q. Am i required to submit my chapter’s bylaws to nAeA?

A. Bylaws define the standards that students are held to in order to be active members of the NAHS/NJAHS chapter at your school (grade point average, required community service, etc.). NAEA provides suggested bylaws on page 8. You can use or adapt these suggested bylaws to fit your school’s needs. once specific criteria beyond what is set in the respective Constitution is implemented by a chapter, a current copy of that chapter’s bylaws must be on file with NAEA.

Q. where can i find additional information on the nAhs/nJAhs program?

A. For a full list of frequently asked questions and additional program information, please visit www.arteducators.org/nahs. You may also contact NAEA Member Services at [email protected], or 800-299-8321.

To me, being a part of NAHS means that i can express myself in a public setting.

So far i’ve gotten to experience what it’s like behind the scenes of events or projects.

Art matters because we get to think and create limitlessly and let other people see us for who we are, truthfully and with no boundaries.
