AR Reading ProgramProcess

You’ll be required to read about one book a month, four per semester.

You’ll take a quiz for each book or do up to two alternative assignments per semester.

You’ll earn four quiz grades. If you take more than four quizzes, the top four grades will apply (as long as a least one is for a non-fiction book).

Quizzes must be taken in the teacher’s presence.

There will be a set date for quizzes, but quizzes can be taken at other times with prior arrangement.

GE Score: This is your grade equivalent.

If you have a GE of 7.8, you’re reading at the equivalent of a student who has completed the eighth month of 7th grade. If you have a GE of 12.9+, you’re reading at the equivalent of a graduating 12th grader.

ZPD Score: This is a range of book difficulty that suits you.

An example would be “4.5 – 7.8.” When you choose books between these numbers, you will have books that are likely to challenge you enough to be interesting but not frustrating. ZPD means Zone of Proximal Development.

You are responsible to ensure your chosen book has an associated quiz.

The best way to do this is to log in as if you are going to take the quiz. When asked “Are you sure” hit cancel.

This is the only way you can be absolutely certain a quiz exists for your chosen book.

AR Reading ProgramLibrary Visits

After each scheduled quiz, we will visit the school library to select our next books.

If you finish your quiz early, check the library catalog online to select your next book.

You’ll walk through the center of campus to get to the library – walk quietly – classes will be in session.

Once in the library, sit four to a table and wait for any instructions before selecting your book.

Select books as quickly as possible, then begin reading or doing other Block class work. Be productive.

Remember that library visits are a privilege.
