Dear faculty Some of you may know that I have retired as of July 31st I wanted to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for all you have done and continue to do for our field hockey players and athletes in general I was proud of our studentathletes on and off the field and hope you appreciated their commitment to your study area and to the university It has been a joy to serve as the field hockey coach for 18 years and lacrosse coach for the first 7 years It was a pleasure to serve for a few years as the coachrsquos representative with APSCUF and I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know many of the faculty members I realized early in my career here at Shippensburg University that we had faculty members who were committed to academics and cared deeply for their students Thank you to those of you who took an interest in our studentathletes sport it was always great to see you at our games and to hear from my players the interacting you had with them concerning their games I enjoyed receiving your emails of congratulations in winning our two National Championships in 2013 and 2016 When I took our players on the road we always spent time in study sessions and I believe it was because my players didnrsquot want to disappoint you as their professors and also their strong commitment to doing their best in their academic life I also want to thank those of you who supported me and our team especially this past year as we dealt with the death of Amanda Strous our former player and coach She taught us to live our lives to the fullest not sweating the small stuff caring for those we come into contact with and having fun along the way Living her legacy was the main purpose of our season this past fall and winning the National Championship was just the icing on the cake May you continue to strive for excellence from your students and yourself as you guide this next generation into the future If nothing else I have learned that life is short and what help and love we can share along the way will impact lives forever Have a great summer Bertie Landes
