PCYC is all about! Some 160 members attendedthe Junior Sailing Fish Fryon Friday, March 22. I un-derstand that ALL of theperch was donated, whichallowed the volunteers fromour sail fleet and our junior

sailors to make some moneyto defray some of the ex-penses of the programs, bothLearn to Sail and our JuniorRace Team.We are in the midst of MarchMadness, and the PCYC baris a great place to watch thegames. It is particularly funwatching PC Cindy Boltejump out of her chair severaltimes while watching theBuckeyes! Come on down

and watch the games at yourclub! The Social Committee ishard at work putting togetherthe 2013-2014 Club Year-book which should be avail-able in a few weeks. keep Dave in your prayers, and I am sure that he andGeri would love to have visi-tors. They are well aware ofhow much the members ofPCYC wish him a speedyrecovery.

VOLUNTEERS! As you allknow, or should know, PortClinton Yacht Club is an allvolunteer Yacht Club. Allprograms and social eventsare organized by memberswho volunteer their time andtalents. April 21 will be an

excellent opportunity for allof you to volunteer to helpget the grounds ready for thesummer season at our semi-annual work party. One ofthe finest examples of volun-teerism we have at PCYC isSteve Alexander and hisintrepid band of volunteerswho install and decommis-sion the risers on all 164 of

the Clubs docks. Most ofthem are 4x4s which makesthem extremely heavy andunwieldy. On Sunday,March 16, Steve and 13other volunteers took to thetask of installing the dockrisers, starting just after 8a.m. and finishing at oneminute after 12 noon! Thanks to Steve, along withGreg Hedden, Phil Bolte, PCTodd Bickley, RC Don Rod-

Jib SheetThere has been a proposalput in writing given to theBoard of Trustees to make asignificant change in thePCYC Rules and Regula-tions regarding pets, specifi-cally dogs, on Club grounds.I have received a bunch ofcommunication since thefirst of the year about this, but this is the first time, inmy memory, that a proposal

has been put in writing. Wewill read the proposal at theApril membership meeting.Even though the Board andFlag Officers has the powerto change the rule withoutgoing through a vote of themembership, I believe thatsuch a change is importantenough to allow the entiremembership have a voice. So, stay tuned.I have continued to be in the

e-mail chain from Past Com-modore Lock Zeis, who wentand visited Past CommodoreDave Audiano at his home inOak Harbor recently. PCAudiano is continuing tofight the good fight despitedifficult health issues. Please

As you can see, if you

have been to the club, thefront entrance is being re-modeled for Handicap ac-cessibility. This project Iam told has been on thelist to do at least as farback as CommodoreChuck Reichmans Rearcommodore year. The con-crete portion of the projectto raise the approach to theentrance doors will serve

two main objectives. Thefirst is to make it wheel-chair accessible and sec-ond, to make it safer for allwho sometimes forgetabout the step coming in orout through the doors. Wewill be laying new black-top up to the concrete tocreate a smooth transitionin the near future. I wouldlike to thank the people

who worked on this pro-ject and saw it through

    despite the obstacles and

the raw weather. The teamwas; Eric Reynolds, SeanKelly (and his equipment)Duane Snyder, DougShealy, PC Doug Youngand myself. This is anotherexample of club memberscoming together to do aproject professionally andstill save the club thou-sands of dollars.

The next project will be thefront river wall renovation. This project has been splitinto two phases. Phase 1;Installation of the new ped-estals and drainage. Thesepedestals have both 30Amp and 50 Amp serviceplugs to accommodate thelarger boats. PC Rusty Jackwill be installing the ped-estals in the coming weeks.

The Board has also ap-proved the removal of dirt

that lies up against the sea

wall. This dirt puts pres-sure on the top of the seawall which over time bowsthe wall causing expensiverepair or replacement is-sues. A current example ofthis type of damage is visi-ble at the end of the lagoonwall. That wall is pushedout over 16 and will needto be dealt with in the nextcouple of years. Thispro-

ject needs volunteers! Theneed is for labor to helpRusty and for Eric to re-move the current Board-walk and the drainagetrench. If you want to help, call PC Chuck at the clubin the mornings or me andwe will gladly scheduleyou in. Phase 2 of this pro-ject will happen this fall. Itwill be the construction of

a wider commercial gradeboardwalk to replace the

Two seasons ago Team Leon, Dr. Suzie (LTS) andVince (Race), added a Recreational Sailing program for theJr. Sailors. This is held the 2nd afternoon session and is forthe advanced opti or older beginner 12+ Jr. sailors who justwant to have fun on the water minus the commitment ofracing. They will be able to use any boat in our fleet,Optis, Lasers, 420s and when available some of the Aux-iliary sailboats.

    March Jr. Sailing Fish Fry

The weather was chilly but the sun gave us a little teaserthat spring is near. This was the perfect recipe to bring ourmembers to the fish fry in record numbers.

Fish DonorsThank you to the fish donors. Without you this eventwould not be successful.Dr. and Mrs. John Bodie, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Nickel, Dr.and Mrs. Mike Hablizel, Mr. Steve Gulas, and PC and Mrs.Todd Finke.

    Volunteers

Special thank you Mr. Duane Snyder and David Nighswan-der for all their help prepping the fish and all the volunteers

that help pull this one of off. Also thanks to the Bergmanbrothers that were not able to participate this year but gaveus valuable prepping and cooking tips that helped the eve-ning go smoothly.

April Boat WorksI am back again to making my April Sailboat to do list. Butbeing the traditional cheap sailor I am going to use my2011 list because nothing has changed.except for a newheadsail 11 and mainsail 12.

Hmmm, lets start out with the most importantitems. 1. Try and find the cockpit speakers from X-mas2006 (forget it my ipod speakers will do) 2. Replace defunkmanual bilge pump (naw, the roundhouse bucket workedjust fine) 3.Fix External Ship to Shore Mic (I never reallyuse it, maybe I can borrow one) 4. Wax topside (That canwait. I did it 2 years ago) 5. Fill tank with fuel (same as #4)6. Paint bottom (Hope I get some more free paint from mybrother in law Kevin Kyle)You see, boating upkeep isnt that difficult, time consum-ing or as expensive as people say.
