From the Pastor

With a mixture of joy and sorrow, this past Sunday we congratulated Fr. Juan Mercado on his ordination to the priesthood and we wished him well in his new assignment at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in

Carrizo Springs. Fr. Juan has made a big impact on our parish in his short time here, both as a seminarian and as a deacon. He has ministered with love and devotion to our parishioners, especially to the youth. It has been said that when we must be separated from a loved one, we can either be upset about that separation or thankful for the time we had with that person. So let us thank God for the time we had with Fr. Juan and let us continue to pray for him. May his time here in our parish be a good foundation for a long life of service to God and to His people!

We are blessed by the appointment to our parish of Fr. Pedro Mercado, Jr., the twin brother of Fr. Juan Mercado. Before his ordination this past Sunday, Fr. Pedro served with distinction as transitional deacon at Nuestra Señora del Santo Rosario Parish in Laredo. He was very involved with the many activities of that busy parish, including with their large numbers of young people. Even though Fr. Pedro and Fr. Juan are identical twins, they are each unique in the gifts God has given to them. Let us anticipate with joy the opportunity to get to know our new Parochial Vicar. May his time here be of great benefit to us, as well as to him. Fr. Pedro, we welcome you as a new shepherd of our parish, and we look forward to how you will be taking care of your new sheep!

¡Despedida y Bienvenida! Con una mezcla de alegría y pesar, el domingo pasado felicitamos al Padre Juan Mercado en su ordenación al sacerdocio y le deseamos lo mejor en su nueva misión en la Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe en Carrizo Springs. P. Juan ha tenido un gran impacto en nuestra parroquia en su corto tiempo aquí, tanto como seminarista como diácono. Él ha ministrado con amor y devoción a nuestros feligreses, especialmente a los jóvenes. Se dice que cuando tenemos que separarnos de un ser querido, podemos estar tristes por esa separación o agradecidos por el tiempo que pasamos con esa persona. Así que agradecemos a Dios por el tiempo que pasamos con el Padre Juan y continuemos orando por él. ¡Que su tiempo en nuestra parroquia haya sido una buena base para una larga vida al servicio de Dios y de su pueblo!

Estamos bendecidos con el nombramiento a nuestra parroquia del Padre Pedro Mercado, Jr., hermano gemelo del Padre Juan Mercado. Hasta antes de su ordenación el sábado pasado, Padre Pedro sirvió con distinción como diácono transitorio en la Parroquia Nuestra Señora del Santo Rosario en Laredo. Estando muy involucrado con las muchas actividades de esa concurrida parroquia, incluyendo su gran cantidad de jóvenes. Aunque el Padre Pedro y el Padre Juan son gemelos idénticos, cada uno es único con los dones que Dios les ha dado. Anticipemos con alegría la oportunidad de conocer a nuestro nuevo vicario parroquial. Que su tiempo aquí sea de gran beneficio para nosotros, así como también para él. Padre Pedro, le damos la bienvenida como nuevo pastor de nuestra parroquia, ¡y esperamos ansiosamente la forma en que cuidará a sus nuevas ovejas!

¡Considera las escuelas católicas! Este fin de semana, los representantes de las escuelas católicas en Laredo están ofreciendo información en el salón parroquial después de las Misas. Espero que haya tenido la oportunidad de visitar las mesas de información y aprender más sobre nuestras escuelas católicas. Por supuesto, enviar a sus niños a la escuela católica significará un gran sacrificio para muchas familias.
