What’s happening at the CRC in April
What a success our fundraising has been so far this year! To start off we sold
a lovely family raffle at the Harvey Primary School’s ‘Colour Fun Run’ on
Saturday the 24th of February. The proceeds went towards supporting the
CRC’s Community Garden through the purchase of new fruit and vegetable
seedlings for the new season.
In March we sold two more raffles with fantastic results! Our Taste of
Harmony raffle in celebration of Harmony Week (15-21 March) and our Easter
raffle were a huge success and will go towards funding children’s activities
and facilities in the Centre.
We would like to give a big thank you to all who purchased tickets, your
support is greatly appreciated! We hope our raffles winners love their
beautiful new hampers!
The funds raised have already allowed us to re-vamp our Kids Corner! Make
sure you have a look when you visit us next and check out the brand new play
area with plenty of new toys! Remember, we want to know your thoughts so
please let us know any of your ideas or suggestions for projects we can do
right here at your CRC!
Thank you to everyone who entered our Easter Colouring Competition and a
huge congratulations to our winners! The team at the CRC loved all of your
beautiful drawings and had such a hard time choosing the winners as they
were all so great! We are looking forward to many more throughout the year.
The time has come again for Harvey’s annual Agricultural Show! Whilst you
enjoy the entertainment, food and stalls, keep an eye out for us! The Harvey
CRC will be holding a stall so don’t forget to come along and say hello to our
friendly team.
We want to know your thoughts on how we can make the HCRC even better,
so if you have any suggestions for events, services or initiatives, please let us
know! Make sure you stay tuned by following our Facebook page! If you are
interested in receiving email updates about upcoming events and important
notices from the Harvey CRC, please contact the Centre.
The Harvey CRC wishes everyone a fantastic month ahead.

Harmony Day and Raffle In celebration of Harmony Day 2018 (March 21st), the Harvey Community
Resource Centre held a beautiful Taste of Harmony Lunch on Tuesday the
20th of March. Our multicultural feast included traditional and modern
dishes originating from China, India, Italy, Indonesia and the Philippines.
Our guests enjoyed the lovely array of dishes and shared stories from their
cultures. To make the day even better we created a multicultural hamper
full of various ingredients and cooking utensils and sold tickets leading up
to the event. Congratulations to our lucky winner Robelyn Enriquez! We
hope you love your prize and we would like to give a big thank you to all that
bought tickets! Thank you to the people who came along to support our
CRC!
Easter Colouring Competition and Raffle This Easter we were blown away by all of the amazing entries in our
Colouring Competition! Every drawing was so creative that it was the hardest
competition we have ever had to judge! Congratulations to Isla Fardella (0-5
years), Eva Italiano (6-10 years) and Lily Corso (11+ years) for winning this
years Eater Colouring Competition! We loved each and every colouring and
we look forward to many more competitions. To add to the
Easter spirit we created a beautiful hamper full
of Easter goodies and we would like to give a
huge thank you to everyone that bought tickets,
your support is greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to our winner Natalie Wallam,
we hope you enjoyed your special Easter gift
from us!
Cyber Safety Workshop On Wednesday the 4th of April 2018 Nola
Marino and Angus Taylor, the Minister for Law
Enforcement and Cyber Security, joined us at
the centre to present a very informative
session on the risks of not protecting yourself
and your family online. Nola urged us all to be
more vigilant online just like we protect
ourselves in every day life. She spoke about
many topics, Facebook, cyberbullying,
unwanted contact/online grooming, sexting,
Bluetooth hacking, scams and staying safe
going when going abroad.
We have some Cyber Safety information sheets at the centre if you wish to have a read and see if
you are using the correct settings on social media sites to protect your identity. Everyone that
attended, mentioned that they learnt a lot from the session and it “sure was an eye-opener”!
Thank you to those that came and supported our event at the CRC.

Plastic Bag Ban
From 1 July 2018, lightweight single-use plastic bags will be banned state-wide in Western Australia.
Implemented by the State Government, the ban will bring WA in line with South Australia, Tasmania, the Northern Territory, and the Australian Capital Territory which already have plastic bag bans in place. Queensland has also committed to a ban from 1 July, 2018.
Each year billions of single-use plastic shopping bags are supplied nationally, with around five million littered in WA alone.
While plastic shopping bags make up a relatively small portion of solid waste and litter, they are not biodegradable and can have devastating impacts on marine wildlife and birds.
Since its announcement, WA's plastic bag ban has been widely supported by the community and industry, including among major retailers which are some of the biggest suppliers of plastic shopping bags.
Major supermarkets Coles, Woolworths and IGA have indicated their intention to ban single-use plastic bags while some WA retailers – including Aldi and Bunnings – already support the ban by not offering single-use plastic bags to customers.

Farm Workers Available Now
Farm work in Australia is big business and Bunbury Backpackers knows all about it.
If you need work done, we can help find a worker ready and willing to help and many of the backpackers have skills that can be utilised by you.
Bunbury Backpackers do assist for free with introducing you to reliable labour, the completion of tax forms and inductions etc. saving you from the time-consuming recruitment process.
The use of backpackers as workers has become so successful in Australia that in 2016, the National Farmers’ Federation estimated that backpackers constituted about 25% of Australia’s agricultural labour force. Growers say it is much higher for seasonal harvest jobs.
We can also assist with transport to ensure that your labour demands are met reliably and will do our best to assist with labour even at short notice.
Please phone me at any time for further information.
