HOLIDAY HOMEWORK -2017
CLASS -VIII
Theme: Smart City for Kids
A smart city is an urban area which is highly advanced in terms of infrastructure,
housing facility, markets, communication and commuting facilities. With children
constituting 40 percent of the population in India, the city planners are bound to
focus on the needs of the younger generation. Union Urban Development Minister
M. Venkaiah Naidu said, “it was time city master-plans incorporated specific chapters
to meet the needs of children” that may include providing adequate open spaces and
play centres to nurture children’s creative faculties, and “inclusive and child-sensitive
urban development strategies.”
This summer break, we invite our eighth graders to brainstorm and share ideas on
creating a smart city with an enabling environment; a city that will help in their all-
round development.

extra facilities would you like to provide for children in terms of open spaces ,
