Introduction The Soryn IP Group is pleased to exclusively offer for sale a patent portfolio encompassing a variety of current and next generation mobile wireless technologies.
The patent portfolio consists of ten families and seventeen patents. Nine of the families, and sixteen of the patents, broadly relate to technologies for increasing the speed, quality and capacity of mobile wireless communications and networks. These families offer broad coverage of mobile wireless technologies such as self-‐organizing networks, UE mobility, power control, channel sounding, reduced time packet transmission, matched-‐filters, and capacity management in a packet/circuit-‐switched environment. The tenth family relates to 3D mobile handsets, particularly a fold out, dual-‐screen 3D mobile device.
Of particular import, several patents in this portfolio precede current and next-‐generation standardized1 features of LTE Advanced, LTE, LTE Self-‐Organizing Networks, WCDMA/HSPA, and WCDMA/HSPA+.
All of the patents in the portfolio were invented or co-‐invented by a pioneer in the wireless communications industry, whose accomplishments include being the former CEO of InterDigital Comm. Corp., the former President of the IEEE Communications Society, and the author/coauthor of twelve textbooks and 200 technical papers related to wireless communications. This inventor’s patents have received over 4000 forward citations.
Given the inventor pedigree and nature of this portfolio, the Soryn IP Group is actively seeking bids from a number of companies. Detailed marketing materials regarding this portfolio, as well as access to an electronic data room, will be provided to qualified parties. Claim charts and licensee information will also be provided under a seller-‐approved non-‐disclosure agreement.
The Soryn IP Group is actively seeking bids regarding this portfolio. The Soryn IP Group will keep relevant parties apprised of the bidding status.
1 Neither the inventors nor the assignee participated in the setting of standards relevant to these patents.

The Market The patents in this portfolio relate to an array of wireless technologies, with particular relevance to:
LTE & LTE Advanced
Continuing its upward growth trajectory, LTE networks are either planned or currently deployed by nearly every service provider in the United States.2
The next major milestone in the evolution of LTE is LTE Advanced, which has beeen coined “the next competitive battleground for operators.”3 The first step of LTE Advanced, carrier aggregation, was commercially launched in 20134 and the major service providers in the United States have announced their intention to upgrade to LTE Advanced in the coming years.5 North America is predicted to be the most aggressive LTE Advanced market, with 220 million mobile subscriptions expected by 2018.6
LTE Self-‐Organizing Networks (SON):
Standardized in Releases 8-‐11 of the 3GPP, LTE Self-‐Organizing Networks (SON) offer a host of self-‐organzing solutions for LTE. Distinguished wireless companies singing the praises of LTE SON include Siemens, Motorola, Ericsson and Alcatel-‐Lucent. Nokia-‐Siemens recently highlighted that SON is chartered to enable a leapfrog in automated network operation” and that although “SON is introduced with next-‐generation radio technology Long Term Evolution, LTE . . . . its scope must not be limited to LTE.”7 The 4G Americas organization agrees, emphasing that Self-‐optimizing capabilities in the network will lead to higher end user Quality of Experience (QoE) and reduced churn, thus allowing for overall improved network peformance.”8 And according to research vendor iGR, “SON is an important set of concepts that will radically change the way 4G networks are designed, built and operated.”9

Given the promise of LTE SON networks, the value of LTE SON technologies cannot be understated. As mobile operators continue to deploy SON networks, notes iRG, LTE CapEx savings resulting from full SON implementation between 2011 and 2016 will be $2.34 billion and LTE OpEx will be $4.5 billion.10 Infonetics research, meanwhile, recently highlighted that “[t]he network optimzation market, including 2G/3G optimization and 4G SON software, is forecast to grow to almost US$3.0 billion by 2015.”11
WCDMA/HSPA & WCDMA/HSPA+:
Although LTE receives much of the attention, WCDMA/HSPA is the most widely deployed mobile broadband technology in the world.”12 AT&T and T-‐Mobile have deployed WCMDA/HSPA+ networks in the United States, 13 and HSPA is predicted to continue flourishing. According to Ericsson, “there are likely to be almost three times as many WCDMA/HSPA subscriptions as LTE subscribers in 2018.”14 “WCDMA/HSPA already provides the backbone for most MBB services, and is being continuously developed to efficiently deliver a true broadband experience that is on a par with 4G – to any device, in any location. No other technology can make that claim.”
Mobile Handsets
As the competition among mobile handset manufacturers increases, so too does the need to introduce handsets that stand out from the crowd. An interesting possibility, which has recently received attention, is handsets with screens that can be unfolded to offer substantially enlarged viewing areas, perhaps comparable to tablets. Such handsets, as well as 3D handsets, have recently received attention in the press.
Potential Licensees
Given the range of technologies available in this portfolio, potential licensees include network service providers, mobile device manufacturers, mobile and base station chip manufacturers, cellular network equipment manufacturers and base station software manufacturers.
