The Compelling Need – Better Terrain Awareness at Night and in Other Visually Degraded Environments

Driving at night using the current technology Driver Vision Enhancer (DVE) reduces tactical agility and operating speed, increases the incidences of terrain related accidents and imposes a significant physiologic burden on the vehicle driver.

Page 3: “Video Depth Perception… …to avoid this!”...true depth perception can benefit from Covergent3D technology. • Doctors will not need any special glasses but will be able to

The Compelling Need -- Continued

Vehicle rollovers and other terrain related incidents are a continuing and serious

concern. According to statistics compiled by United Sates Central Command

(CENTCOM), there were 618 combat and tactical vehicle rollovers during combat

operations Afghanistan between January 2009 and July 2012, resulting in 23

fatalities, 501 other injuries and hundreds of millions of dollars in equipment loss and

damage.

The greater preponderance of rollovers occur when operating tactically at night or in

other periods of degraded visibility.

Technology Introduction

C3D can provide a turn-key solution with Display, Camera and Power Supply tailored for military, maritime, and other communities.

C3D can propose upgrade options to legacy systems, that may include utilizing existing camera/s, power source, and vehicle wiring.

In addition to “Perception of Depth” capability showcased earlier, C3D’s roadmap includes other Situational Awareness features, and or will collaborate with clients to define and execute mission critical development, examples:

Sensor Fusion (Day/IR cameras fused)

Video Motion Detection

Edge Enhancement

Object Tracking

Passive Range Finding ( for covert applications)

Technology Update

The technical staff of Convergent3D have accomplished several leading technology enhancements:

Migrated C3D software to a GPU (Nvidia TX1 and Nvidia TX2) reducing processing time for the Algorithm to less than 40 milliseconds with the goal of further reducing this to less than 16 milliseconds.

C3D code can now execute on different processors and GPU families (see backup information)

C3D’s platform is capable of processing 4K video using Intel and Nvidia processors providing increased clarity and text recognition.

Secured a reliable source for high resolution Liquid Crystal Displays aligned with advanced Lenticular Lens.

CRADA #1 status: Signed by C3D, NVESD and CERDECU.S. ARMY RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT, AND ENGINEERING COMMAND (RDECOM),

COMMUNICATIONS-ELECTRONICS RESEARCH, DEVELOPMENT AND ENGINEERING CENTER,

(CERDEC) NIGHT VISION AND ELECTRONIC SENSORS DIRECTORATE.(NVESD)

CRADA # 1 undertakes the test and evaluation of C3D depth perception technology

when incorporated in legacy Driver’s Vision Enhancer (DVE) systems. Follow-on optional

phases call for the development of a candidate Next Generation (NexGen) advanced

technology DVE to eventually replace legacy systems.

NVESD has informed C3D that it is ready to conduct a kick-off meeting to develop an

execution timeline with milestones and resource allocations for the mutually agreed upon

Statement of Work (SOW) included in the signed CRADA.

• Pre-phase: face-to-face meeting to develop execution timeline, milestones and

resource allocations

• Phase 1: will likely take place at Fort Belvoir VA on the US Army test track.

• Phase 2 and subsequent optional phases will likely be held at A.P. Hill VA.

Subsequent optional phases will require additional industry/government

resourcing.

REP status: Purchase contract in closing phase for one or more C3D Degraded

Vision Enhancer (DVE) including custom sensor integration to ground robot,

and field experimentation services. C3D’s DVE features Patented IP enhances

visualization and perception of depth capability, thereby improving

operator/human performance.

The Convergent3D REP proposal was approved by the Maneuver Center of

Excellence (MCoE) Council-Of-Colonels. The C3D DVE will undergo Test &

Evaluation (T&E 19-2) at Fort Leonard Wood conducting true to life scenarios, where

operators will evaluate C3D DVE perception of depth capability, during robotic

maneuvers. The potential includes, future integration within the controller, or as an

add on kit.

Platforms under consideration are both manned and unmanned

Initial discussions have taken place and C3D are working with MCoE on the final

configuration.

Experimentation is planned for late March or early April 2019.

Unit purchase expected in December 2018.

Successful day and nighttime demonstration performed at Virginia Beach. The

scope included the C3D technology interfacing with the onboard Lockheed

Martin GiroCam sensor suite.

Note: Follow up integration completed with on-board FLIR sensor suite.

Following C3D’s successful penetration of the relevant Land Forces R&D community,

efforts continued to introduce C3D “Depth Perception” technology within maritime-

focused national security R&D entities.

A Cooperative Research and Development Agreement, (CRADA), has been created

with the Naval Surface Warfare Center Carder Rock Division, (NSCWCCD). The work

will be performed at the Joint Expeditionary Base (JEB), Little Creek – Fort Story in

Virginia Beach, VA.

This CRADA with the US Navy also lays the foundation for penetration of the

technology into additional maritime elements of the armed services to include, the

USMC, USAF, USCG and US Army.
