ARE CELEBS BEING TOO ACTIVE ON SOCIAL MEDIA IN THISLOCKDOWN? WHAT’S WRONG IN THAT, ASKS TAMANNAAH BHATIA

While staying at home can get stressful, some have decided to take each day at a time to ease out the anxiety. Tamannaah Bhatia saysthat soon after the 21-day lockdown was announced, she took to social media to share that she would make this time constructive byfollowing a “holistic lifestyle” and urged her followers to do the same.“I’m living each day as it comes. If I plan things then the entire purpose gets lost. We’ve been leading a busy life and now in this uniquetime when we’ve time for ourselves and our families, it’s impor tant to make things beautiful. So I’m just being instinctive. There is nopressure,” says Bhatia, who has been since posting about her workouts, food habits and so on.However, amid all the crisis, many have also pointed out that some people are going a little overboard while posting content online. ButBhatia looks at it differently.“Of course people are creating more content now because earlier, many of us were engaged. There are still many who’re working fromhome, emergency service providers are working daily. But for those who’ve some free time they’re creating or watching things moreonline. What’s wrong in that? People who talk about anyone over doing are also a consumer of over consumption or over production. Soit’s kind of ironic in the given circumstance,” she says. The 30-year-old feels we needed to pause, and in a way this time is healing the nature and us in more ways than one. Hence, sherequests everyone to “concentrate on the positives also”.However, what worries Bhatia is that many people are still ignorant about the situation. “I was talking to our watchman recently and hesaid in his village they thought eating chicken leads to such ailments. So while now he knows, through him I tried sending a messageto his fellow villagers,” she adds. Expressing gratitude towards people who are going beyond and helping others, the actor says, “So many peopleeverywhere are trying to help each other, stray animals and birds. I feel proud that we all are doing so much, this is so beautiful.”

To spit or not: Bowlers face ‘saliva’conundrum in post Covid-19 scenario

MON. TO FRI. - 12 NOON TO 7PMSATURDAY - 1 PM TO 10 PM

SUNDAY - 1 PM TO 12 AM

‘RAFAEL NADAL MENTALLYSTRONGER THAN ROGER

FEDERER’: NOVAK DJOKOVIC

Bowlers using saliva to shine the ball is common sight in cricket butin a post COVID-19 world, they might have to reconsider the practice, making their lives tougher in what, many believe, has already be-come a batsman”s game.In the wake of the 2018 ball-tampering scandal, the scrutiny on ballmaintenance has only increased but using sweat and saliva on itremains legal.Given the worsening COVID-19 situation, it is unlikely that cricketwill resume anytime soon and when it finally does, former players, including Venkatesh Prasad, Praveen Kumar and Jason Gillespie, feel the game”s custodians might have to suspend the use of saliva.“When the action resumes, they should use only sweat for some timeas safety of the players is paramount,” former pacer Prasad, whoplayed 33 Tests and 161 ODIs for India, told PTI.He reckons it will be tough for the bowlers to stop using saliva towork up the ball but it is the need of the hour.“When you are in the thick of things, you tend to forget it. You have toget the upper hand over the batsmen as you can”t use anything elsebesides sweat and saliva.“The question is what do you do when the batsman is pulping you?You need to swing the ball and what helps swing the ball is the aero-dynamics,” the 50-year-old explained. In fact, it had become a big talking point in the Indian dressing roomlast month when they were to take on South Africa in a three-matchODI series last month.Bhuvneshwar Kumar had hinted at limiting the use of saliva but thebowlers were not really tested on that front as the series was calledoff due to the rising threat from the COVID-19 pandemic.Without saliva, sweat remains the only other legal source to shine theball but that can be tricky, according to Prasad.“Because not everybody sweats. In that case, you have to keep throw-ing the ball to someone who sweats. I am someone who doesn”tsweat that much whereas Rahul Dravid does,” he recalled.Praveen Kumar, known for his prodigious swing, said putting the rightamount of saliva on the ball aided his ar t immensely.“For the first few months after action resumes, they will have to banthe use of saliva. As bowlers, we will have to look for some othersource,” he said with a laugh. “…it is very important for the fastbowlers, also for the spinners, as it helps them generate drift. For anoff-spinner, the shiny side on the left will drif t the ball away in the airbefore coming back. It tests the batsman,” he reasoned.“For me, saliva was of great help while opening the bowling as wellas reversing the old ball,” said Kumar, who took a five-wicket haul atLord”s in 2011.The world will never be the same even when it is able to overcomethe current crisis. In such a scenario, the way the game is played isalso likely to change.Former Australia pacer Gillespie said time has come to reconsiderthe use of saliva in the game.“I don”t think it”s a quirky question. It”s an actual genuine thing to be

considered,” Gillespie, who took 259 Test wickets, told ”ABC Grand-stand”.“I don”t think anything is off the table. It could be a point where at theend of each over, the umpires allow the players to shine the ball infront of them but you can only do it then. I don”t know. Is it just sweat? Can you only use sweat?“I don”t have an answer to that but it cer tainly will be a conversationthat will be had. If you think about it, it is pretty gross,” said thecricketer-turned-coach.Prasad, however, reminded that bowling is not just about using sweatand saliva, conditions also matter immensely.“It doesn”t matter if you use saliva or not as long as you apply appro-priate amount of sweat and shine it off. If the other side tends to getrough (due to dryness), automatically you get reverse swing.“When I got 6/33 against Pakistan in Chennai (1999), the reverse(swing) happened because of the condition of the ball, pitch and theweather. So, it is not just about saliva. A lot of other factors also comeinto play,” he said.He reiterated that the use of saliva should be stopped even though itwould be difficult for the bowlers to let go of a practice they are soused to.“For everyone”s safety, it should be suspended but if you are gettingsmashed, you will sub-consciously try to do your best to swing theball and that might include (using) saliva.“If you are not able to swing the ball like you used to, you risk gettingdropped. How do you address that?” Prasad asked.

Novak Djokovic has kept himself quite busy on social me-dia, be it playing home tennis with his friend or engaging inan Instagram Live session with two-time Wimbledon-win-ner Andy Murray, where he lauded the mental strength of hison-cour t rival Rafael Nadal.Amidst the knockabout banter between the two players, the17-time Grand Slam-winning Serbian rued about his Olym-pic per formances and joked about Stan Wawrinka’s shor ts.Although Djokovic picked Roger Federer’s forehand as thetoughest, he complimented the World No. 2 for a differentreason. “When it comes to mental strength there is no onebetter than Rafa. Over the years, we have seen him bounceback from injury so many times. He probably has had moreinjuries than anyone on the ATP tour and he has managed tocome back from every single one of them,” he said.Nadal, who has faced a barrage of injuries over the courseof his career has won 19 Grand Slams, with 12 of themcoming on the clay cour ts of Stade Roland-Gar ros. His lat-est Grand Slam win was at the 2019 US Open where hedefeated Daniil Medvedev for the title.“When you walk onto the cour t with him and you see himjumping, you know you are facing a gladiator. You know youare facing a mental giant. He is mentally stronger than evenRoger Federer.” Djokovic also threw light on the dominanceof the ‘Big Three’ and how their time was coming to an end.“We [him, Nadal, Federer] are also not that young anymore. You have guys like Dominic Thiem and [Stefanos] Tsitsipasand [Alexander] Zverev,” he said.

Beautiful haircut by my wife.”

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on?Monday said that he is not interested in taking up a commentaryrole at this moment. The stylish left-hander had announced his retirement from all forms of the game lastyear. Speaking to former India teammate Mohammad Kaif in an Instagram Live video, Yuvraj opened up onwhat he wishes to do af ter retirement. Kaif, who also announced retirement last year, has taken upcommentary role, and questioned Yuvraj when he would join him in the commentary box.In reply, Yuvraj joked that he cannot tolerate a few people. “You can get along with people. I can’t toleratesome people in commentary box (laughs),” he said. “It really depends if a time comes when I want tocommentate, I will. I want to do ICC events - T20 world Cup, ICC?ODI?World Cup. I don’t think I can docommentary all the time. I don’t have the patience to sit and talk about cricket all the time again. I won’tbe able to do it,”?he said.Yuvraj fur ther added that he also finds it difficult to criticise youngsters which the commentators of ten do.“The player on the field knows what pressure he is facing. I don’t like criticising young players . I havebeen in that place how it feels when people talk about you. This is why I don’t want to be a commentator. It is also necessary to tell youngsters what mistakes they are making. But we should strike a balance.”But Yuvraj added that he might feel different about commentator ’s role af ter a few years into hisretirement, but at the moment, he is eager to be a coach. “I feel I enjoy coaching more thancommentary. I don’t think commentary will be my full time job,” he said.“But I understand I have not even retired for even a year. I have played cricket for 25-30 years ofcricket, right now I am looking to take a break. But I?will take a call on what I want to do after a fewyears into my retirement.”

Can chase any score: Only 1 Indian in Nasser Hussain’s list of batsmen he would pay to watchNarrowing down the best batsmen across generation in cricket isan extremely difficult task to say the least. Former cricketers andcoaches are often put in the hot seat and asked to name the bestaccording to them. Amid lockdown due to the global outbreak of coronavirus, the same question was thrown towards former England captain and now apopular commentator Nasser Hussain. The nature of the question, however, was a bit different, Hussain was asked who are batsmen in the currentand past era he would pay to watch. The former England batsman, who was known for his tactics onthe cricket field, was precise in his answer. Hussain picked fourbatsmen he would pay to watch across generations in a Q&Asession with Daily Mail.David Gower“I have to go for my childhood hero David Gower. I remember anearly game against Leicestershire and I was at cover point as heleant on one and before I could move it hit the boundary boardsbehind me. Everything I had admired was there in front of myeyes,” Nasser said about Gower, who played 117 Test matches

for England between 1978 and 1992 and piled up 8,231 runs.Brian LaraHussain’s next pick was West Indies legend Brian Lara. “I’ve beenwatching some old footage of Brian Lara with that big back-lift and, wow, could he bat,” said Hussain.“I didn’t captain against him much but I have to say, Brian Lara. PoorMike Atherton would move a fielder and Lara would almost take themickey and hit it in the gap where the fielder had been,” Hussainadded.Saeed AnwarPakistan’s Saeed Anwar who regarded as one of the most stylishbatsmen of his era earned high praise from Hussain. “In terms ofbeing easy on the eye, Saeed Anwar had an elegance and gracethrough the off-side,” Nasser said about the Pakistan legend.Virat KohliIndia captain Virat Kohli was the only Indian and also the lone currentplayer in Hussain’s list. “ Virat Kohli in a 50-over run chase. He justseems to chase down any score every time,” Hussain said.

Ishant Sharma’s rise to becoming the leader ofthe pack in red ball cricket has been one of themost fascinating stories of Indian cricket overthe past few years. In his long career, Ishantwas always looked at as a buffer option, de-spite producing some match winning spells overthe years. But his rise has been meteoric overthe past couple of years.Ishant has also been a regular in the Indian Pre-mier League despite not playing limited overscricket for India for a while. Ishant represented Delhi Capitals last season and in a match againstChennai Super Kings, he managed to hit a few lusty blows with the bat. Speaking to Gaurav Kapur onhis YouTube show Isolation Premier League, Ishant revealed how CSK captain Dhoni got irritated afterwatching his batting skills.“Mahi bhai (Dhoni) used to make fun of me that I can’t hit sixes, saying you don’t have that power. Lastyear I hit Jaddu (Jadeja) for a four and followed it with a six. Then I turned my head towards Mahi bhaito see his reaction, who gave an ear ful to Jaddu,” Ishant said.Ishant had earlier in a video posted by his IPL franchise Delhi Capitals said that he can’t pick betweenhis seven-wicket haul in Lord’s and his fifer at Eden Gardens in the pink ball Test, while speakingabout his most memorable per formance.“Both of them are equally memorable. Taking seven wickets at Lord’s is obviously something I can’tforget. And taking those five wickets with the pink ball also I can’t forget because after 12 years I hadtaken a five-wicket haul.”Ishant Sharma’s spell of 7/74 in the second innings of the Lord’s Test helped India win a match at the‘Hone of Cricket’ for the first time in 28 years.

IPL’s big money can add pressure, peopletry to drag you down: Yuvraj Singh

Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh on Monday said pressure of being a big money buy in theIndian Premier League (IPL) is felt when you don’t per form and people talk about all that moolahgoing to waste, all the time. Yuvraj still holds the record of being IPL’s most-expensive buy. The2011 World Cup hero went for a whopping Rs 16 crore to Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) inthe 2015 auctions. Yuvraj did not have a good IPL that year, managing 248 runs in 14 matches at19.07. “The pressure is felt because of the big money. I won’t say it changes a player. Now whenyou climb the success ladder, people try to drag you down,” Yuvraj said during an Instagram Livewith former teammate Mohammad Kaif.“See the point is...pressure is there because when you get out and don’t per form they say he isgetting so much money and not per forming. Negative news sells more and those things affect you.My advice to all youngsters would be to stay away from TV and newspapers,” said the 38-year old, regarded as one of the all-time best white-ball batters.Australian quick Pat Cummins became the second most-expensive buy in the popular T20 league inthe 2019 auctions where Kolkata Knight Riders shelled out Rs 15.50 crore for him. The IPL ispostponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.Yuvraj also spoke about his fielding and how he became such a great fielder. Yuvraj and Kaif wereIndia’s two best fielders during their playing days.“I was very athletic. I was quick. But fielding i did not have too much idea. In the first Ranji matchI was playing, I was 15-16 years. I misfielded and next day ar ticle came out Yuvraj Singh ‘gatewayof India’. “My father read that. He said now I will see how you don’t improve your fielding. Then Istar ted getting better and body also got stronger.”Talking about the famous 2002 NatWest Series final win against England where Yuvraj and Kaifshared a match-winning 121-run stand for the sixth wicket, Yuvraj said: “My lesson from that gamewas that you can’t relax at any time. England had thought they had won the game. You can’t give up.You have to keep trying.”

TORONTO (REUTERS) In Canada’s typically busy home-selling sea-son, wary buyers are donning masks and gloves to view proper tieswhile realtors offer vir tual tours and coronavirus clauses as the realestate industry copes up with the outbreak.Canadian home resales are forecast to fall by about 30 per cent to a20-year low this year, Royal Bank of Canada estimates. Home salesslumped 14.3 per cent in March from February.Armed with new COVID clauses, some agents are still trying. The COVID clauses include confirming buyers’ health and recent-travel history and waivers that free the seller and agent from anyliability in the event the client gets sick following a proper ty viewing.Toronto-based agent Alexandra Côté provided vir tual tours of about 25proper ties, using Skype calls and video tours, for clients recentlybefore they zeroed in on one. After her clients decided on a proper ty, they and Côté, in masks andgloves, would visit the proper ty in person. “I was actually surprisedat how well it worked,” she said. For an industry that relies on in-person visits and where purchasesare influenced by touch and feel, the social-distancing restrictionshave tempered buyers’ enthusiasm.

“Nothing is going to compare to viewing the house in person,” RoyalLePage sales agent Tom Storey said. Storey’s team has seen a spikein vir tual walk-throughs for their proper ties, despite having 95 percent of business on pause. Vancouver real estate agent DavidHutchinson now carries a “COVID kit,” consisting of gloves, masks, hand sanitizer and bleach. He had to recently abide by a rule prohib-iting more than two people from entering a building during a proper tyviewing. Hutchinson has clients complete a questionnaire confirmingthey have not traveled in the past 14 days and are not feeling sick.

At least twomore models are due by 2022.“As of right now, there are no delays anticipated with our EV rollout plans,”said Volkswagen Canada spokesman Thomas Tetzlaff.Audi Canada spokesman Cor t Nielsen confirmed that the e-tron Spor tbackwill arrive in Canada as scheduled in the second half of 2020. The risk of premature delivery can be reduced by the consumption oftraditional ‘three-veggies’, suggests a new study.University of Queensland PhD candidate Dereje Gete analysed thediets of nearly 3,500 women and found high consumption of carrots, cauliflower, broccoli, pumpkin, cabbage, green beans and potatoesbefore conception helped women reach full-term pregnancy.“Traditional vegetables are rich in antioxidants or anti-inflammatorynutrients, which have a significant role in reducing the risk of adversebir th outcomes,” Gete said. “Women depend on cer tain stored nutri-ents such as calcium and iron before conception, which are criticalfor the placenta and foetus tissue development,” he added. “Star tinga healthier diet after the baby has been conceived may be too late becausebabies are fully formed by the end of the first trimester,” he said. Professor GitaMishra said the study suggested dietary intervention and strategies changebehaviour that may be helpful when women start thinking about having a baby.“People born prematurely face a greater risk of metabolic and chronicdiseases in adulthood, as well as poor cognitive development andacademic per formance,” Professor Mishra said.

Lockdown blues: Waiting for your salon appointment, aren’t you?

A joke’s going around - once the lockdown ends, we’ll know everyone’s real hair colour! Even as several men andwomen have made do the au naturel look, they’re also pining to avail salon services to take care of bushy eyebrows, fuzzy facial hair, brittle nails and unruly hair. So, will there be a boom in the grooming business? Maybe. Will there be finicky clients? Perhaps yes, but rightly so,say industry experts who believe the industry standards in hygiene and safety will go higher. Be it by way of single-use products, increased sanitation or disposable tools, salons are likely to take multiple measures post-lockdown toensure hassle-free experiences for customers.Beauty exper t Dr. Blossom Kochhar believes it is a “reality check” for Indians and Indian salons both, “that they needto maintain hygiene”. “From now, even the customers will be more aware and cautious about what and how theservices have been provided,” says Kochhar, adding that masks and sanitisers will become a staple at parlours.“In the longer run, a boom, especially in hair care services is expected. Beauty and spa services however, are

expected to face a decline. Especially services like facials and threading areexpected to reduce because these are provided in close proximity to theclient. Makeup on the other hand, is expected to decline too as people wouldprefer using their own products keeping in mind their personal hygiene,”Kochhar adds. While for multiple salon chains and even standalone parlours, the strategywill be put in place once there’s clarity about the period of lockdown, there areothers who’ve been vir tually training the staff in new methods, practices, andalso maintaining health records.Rachna Shah, Head of Sales, Strategy and Trainings, Geetanjali Salons, saysthey’re expecting a boom in footfalls once the facility opens, but understandssince this is an “industry that involves touch, there’ll definitely be afear in people’s mind, and we’ll need to boost their overall confi-dence in terms of the health and safety guidelines”.A surge in services such as colour touch-ups, hair cuts, beardtrimming, waxing, threading, manicure, ped icure, and nail groomingservices is expected, Shah says, adding that they’re moving away from bigproduct bottles to small and simple mono-dose kits, use-and-throwspatulas and disposable gowns, slippers, headbands and facialwipes. Besides this, they hope to promote the use of digital moneyto reduce use of currency notes.

WILL THE CORONAVIRUS CRISIS FORCE COUPLES TOCHOOSE NON-SAAYA DATES TO MARRY?As the coronavirus pandemic gatecrashes the big fat Indian weddings, soon to be wedded couplesare being compelled to reschedule their wedding dates. But with restricted number of auspiciouswedding dates aka ‘saaya’ dates in the year 2020, picking a new date has left couples with no otheroption, but to choose a ‘non-auspicious’ date. Exper ts reveal that the year -end heavy saaya dates aremostly fully booked in advance, hence others have no other choice this year.Tina Sethi, an IT professional who was getting married in April, says, “ The original date for ourwedding was a shubh vivah muhurat. But now as we are trying to postpone the date, I don’t want toagain get into the hassle of getting married on a ‘heavy saya’ date as wedding vendors can’t bechanged because we had paid them in advance. So, we will just pick a date available to them and goahead.” She also adds, “Thankfully, our venue and photographer gave us a credit note instead ofcharging the cancellation amount.” Some vendors as well as couples fear that postponing may leadto additional expenditure and added pressure to again to figure out the wedding preparation logistics.“November-December dates are already booked but new customers coming to us with fresh dates. We are asking them to opt for a day wedding like 12pm-5pm, so that the night wedding could go asplanned. Couples now have no choice but to go for non-saaya wedding dates as we have promisedvenues to our previous clients” says, Ridhima Arora from a luxury wedding venue.
