B. RecallLast meeting we discussed about Aerobic Respiration, as a sort of review I have here a statement about the Aerobic respiration. What you’re going to do is to complete the statement by writing the missing word in the underline. This will help you to recall the complete flow of Aerobic Respiration. I need volunteers to do this task.

Do I make my instructions clear?

It seems that you really understand our previous topic.

Students’ Activity

Good Morning, sir!

Aerobic Respiration often starts with 1. ______________ which breaks down during 2. ______________ (with the presence of Oxygen.) It will produce 3. ______________ that is used in the process of 4. _______________ which involve the NADH and FADH 2 that is needed in the process of 5.________________

Yes, sir.

C. Motivation

Class, I have here a picture. So what can you say about the picture posted on the board?

So class, did you know that to make these products, they have to undergo to a process called Fermentation. And today, we will be able to discuss Fermentation or scientifically called Anaerobic Respiration.

D. Lesson Proper1. Pre – Activity

Page 3: Anaerobic respiration ok

a. PresentationWe now know that cells can release energy with the presence of Oxygen. And that is the Aerobic Respiration and now, we will be able to explore the capability of cells to release energy without the presence of Oxygen which is termed as Anaerobic Respiration or Fermentation that enables the cells to produce ATP without the use of Oxygen.

b. Discussion of Procedure I will group you into 3. Each group will be given 5 minutes to do the task.

c. Points to RememberBut before we start out task, I want you to introduce my friend NARUTO and he has a message to each and every one of you.

d. Distribution of Materials (The students will get their materials from their teacher.)

2. Activity proper (Refer to activity sheet provided by the teacher.)

Guide Questions:Group No. 1 1. Compare and contrast Aerobic to

Anaerobic Respiration2. What are the two types of

Anaerobic Respiration?

Group No. 21. Describe the Alcoholic

Fermentation:1.1 What microorganism is

involved in alcoholic fermentation?

1.2 How does alcoholic fermentation happen?

1.3 What is the formula for Alcoholic Fermentation? Explain.

1.4 Give products that are result from Alcoholic Fermentation.

N – oise must be avoided A – ttentive listening R – ead the direction carefully U – nderstand the direction and

instructions T – ime management O – bserve cleanliness

Group No. 31. Describe Lactic Acid Fermentation:

1.1 What microorganism is involved in Lactic Acid fermentation?1.2 How does Lactic Acid fermentation happen?1.3 What is the formula for Lactic Acid Fermentation? Explain.1.4 Give products that are result from Lactic Acid Fermentation.

3. Post Activity a. Presentation of Output

b. Discussion and Analysis of Data

Okay class, let’s analyze your work if they are correct.

How will you define Anaerobic Respiration?

Very Good!

What do you think is the difference of Aerobic to Anaerobic Respiration?

Precisely!

Class, What are the two types of Anaerobic Respiration?

What microorganism is involved in alcoholic fermentation?

What do you think is the function of Yeast in alcoholic fermentation?Very good!

How does Alcoholic Fermentation happen?

What is the formula for alcoholic fermentation?

Very Good! Can you please give me a product that

It is the process where the cells release energy by breaking down the food molecules without the presence of Oxygen.

Aerobic Respiration – with the presence of Oxygen and have 36 – 38 ATP while Anaerobic respiration – without the presence of Oxygen and has 2 ATP.

We have the Alcoholic and Lactic acid fermentation.

Yeast.

Yeast splits pyruvate into alcohol and Carbon dioxide.

Glucose breaks down into pyruvate through the enzyme of yeast producing 2 ATP molecules.

Glucose Enzymes→

Carbon dioxide +

Alcohol + energy (2ATP)

wines and beers

is result in alcoholic fermentation?

That’s right! How about the microorganism present in Lactic acid Fermentation?

That’s Right!Did you know that the bacteria needed to produce yogurt is the “lactobacillus acidophilus”.

How does Lactic acid Fermentation happen?

Precisely!

Can you give me products that are result in Lactic acid Fermentation?

Now class, are the information about Anaerobic respiration clear to you?

4. Generalization Class, I have here an Anaerobic Respiration chart, in the right side of its chart are the raw materials this process which is written in a strips of paper. What you’re going to do is to identify the reactants and products involved in lactic acid and alcoholic fermentation.

Is that clear?I need volunteers to this task.

5. ApplicationHow does fermentation help people to preserve food? And to prevent food spoilage?

6. Valuing“All sorrows are less with beers.”

Miguel de Cervantes

Bacteria

When glucose breaks up into pyruvate through the enzyme of bacteria, it will produce 2 ATP molecules.

bagoong, yogurt, and buros’

Yes, Sir! Cytosol

Yeast

Pyruvates

Muscle

Yes, Sir!

Adding salt to food destroy most microorganism. Fermentation of food result to lactic acid fermentation that controls the growth of decay organism.
