Dear Friends,

Jesus Christ Is Risen! He Is Truly Risen!

Our Lenten journey is over. Some of us succeeded with

our resolutions, some not, some maybe did not even

think of any Lenten resolutions. Nevertheless, each of us

has the opportunity once again today to greet each other

with this beautiful, full of hope ancient greeting. With

this greeting we share with each other hope, comfort and

peace. Do we truly believe in the reality that He is Ris-

en? If we do, then we are called to be witnesses of that

Good News. News that our limitations, fears, lack of self

-confidence, sinfulness and misery have been conquered.

Some of us, however, do not want to receive nor believe

in that Good News, WHY?

All four Gospels recall that Jesus appeared to different

people after His Resurrection. These people in turn went

to others to announce that “the Lord is Risen”, however,

not everyone believed right away.

“She (Mary Magdalene) went and told his companions

who were mourning and weeping. When they heard

that he was alive and had been seen by her, they did

not believe.” (Mark 16:10-11)

Why would the disciples not believe in such wonderful

News? Perhaps because it had never happened before?

Or it was unheard of? Or maybe they were just afraid

because it was easier to feel self-pity, sorrow and remain

in the company of misery? Often we ourselves would

rather stay in our misery because we do not have to

change anything. It is not always easy to change or do

something new.

Nevertheless, accepting the Good News requires change;

change is inevitable, even though it frightens most of us,

it is necessary. Those who truly met Jesus were changed

forever. These people are the saints, some of whom are

our contemporaries, and ordinary people, such as John

Paul II, Mother Theresa of Calcutta, and many others.

They had courage, love, faith and hope, and changed not

only themselves, but the world around them.

This is my prayer for you and for me this Easter; to be

people of the Good News.

May God bless you, your family and your friends at this

Easter Season.

Yours in the Risen Christ,

Fr. Yuvan
