Christ is Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!! Truly He is truly Risen! Alleluia! Alleluia!! Happy Easter! Today, we celebrate the triumphant Resurrection of Jesus from the dead! Last week, I shared a very sad painting by the German painter Johann Koerbecke entitled The Entombment. This week, as we celebrate Christ’s victory over sin and death, I share a happy painting by Johann Koerbecke entitled The Resurrection (1457). This painting of the Resurrection of Christ continues the story that we last saw with Christ’s entombment, or burial. Recall, in Koerbecke’s Entombment that he places a large, diagonal stone tomb in the center of his painting. In the painting of the Resurrection of Christ, Koerbecke once again places that same large, diagonal stone tomb in the center of this painting. Only now, on Easter

morning, the events surrounding this stone tomb are very different.

The Jesus that we see at tomb on Easter is very different than the Jesus at the tomb on Good Friday. In the Entombment, Jesus’ lifeless body was lowered into the stone tomb by three men. The body of Jesus was pale white, dead, and wrapped in white burial cloths. However, now, on the day of Resurrection, everything has changed! The body of Jesus that was dead and lifeless is now alive and energetic on Easter! Koerbecke portrays the Risen Christ with the color of life, health, and vigor. The colors of dead Christ in the Entombment were dull and dreary, but the color of the Risen Christ, including the landscape all around Him, are vibrant and bright! Whereas the lifeless Jesus had to be lowered into the tomb following His death on the cross, now we see Christ emerging from the tomb by His own strength and power. We see Jesus pushing off the slab of stone that covered the tomb with one hand and jumping out of the grave! This powerful Risen Lord is no longer bound by white burial cloths. No, the Risen Christ is full of power and might. In Renaissance art, red symbolized royalty, high social status, power, and prestige. On the day of the Resurrection, therefore, it is no surprise or accident that the Risen Christ wears a bright red robe of splendor and majesty, and He holds a red banner of valor and victory!

After looking at the Risen Lord in the middle of the scene, I looked next at the figures of the five guards stationed around the tomb, half asleep, and caught sight of a detail that intrigued me. In the lower right hand corner of the painting, below a sleeping soldier, is a tree stump. Why would Koerbecke include a tree that was cut down? To understand why, we have to go to the Old Testament, and read the prophecies concerning the suffering of the Messiah. From the Book of Jeremiah, we read, “they were hatching plots against me; ‘Let us destroy the tree in its vigor; let us cut him off from the land of the living, so that his name will be spoken no more’” (Jer12:19). The cut off tree, under the soldier, represents the death of Christ. We also read in the Old Testament, “for a tree there is hope, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again and that its tender shoots will not cease” (Job 14:7). This cut off of tree is Christ. God is victorious over death. They tried to cut Jesus off from the land of the living, but He has risen! As we celebrate the glorious Resurrection of Christ, may the words of St. Paul in his Letter to the Romans fill our ears and hearts with joy: “we know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God” (Rom 6:9-10).

In the Easter season, we joyously sing the Regina Coeli with the Blessed Mother: “Queen of Heaven, rejoice, alleluia! For He whom you did merit to bear, alleluia, has risen, as he said, alleluia!” Have a very Blessed and Happy Easter!! St. Joseph, pray for us! Vivat Jesus! Live Jesus!

¡Cristo ha Resucitado! ¡Aleluya! ¡¡Aleluya!! ¡Verdaderamente Él Realmente Ha Resucitado! ¡Aleluya! ¡¡Aleluya!! ¡Felices Pascuas! ¡Hoy celebramos la resurrección triunfante de Jesús de entre los muertos! La semana pasa-da compartí una pintura muy triste del pintor alemán Johann Koerbecke titulada El Entierro. Esta semana, mientras celebramos la victoria de Cristo sobre el pecado y la muerte, comparto una feliz pintura de Johann Koerbecke titulada La Resurrección (1457). Esta pintura de la Resurrección de Cristo continúa la historia que vimos por última vez con el entierro de Cristo, o sepultura. Recordemos, en el Entierro de Koerbecke, que él coloca una gran tumba de piedra diagonal en el centro de su pintura. En la pintura de la Resurrección de Cristo, Koerbecke vuelve a colocar esa misma gran tumba de piedra diagonal en el centro de esta pintura. Sólo ahora, en la mañana de pascua, los aconteci-

mientos que rodean esta tumba de piedra son muy diferentes. El Jesús que vemos en la tumba en la Pascua es muy diferente al Jesús en la tumba el Viernes Santo. En el Entierro, el cuerpo sin vida de Jesús fue bajado a la tumba de piedra por tres hombres. El cuerpo de Jesús era blanco pálido, muerto y envuelto en lienzos blancos. Sin embargo, ahora, en el día de la Resurrección, ¡todo ha cambiado! ¡El cuerpo de Jesús que estaba muerto y sin vida está vivo y enérgico en la Pascua! Koerbecke retrata al Cristo Resucitado con el color de la vida, la salud y el vigor. Los colores del Cristo muerto en el Entierro eran palidos y aburridos, ¡pero el color del Cristo Resucitado, incluyendo el paisaje a su alrededor, son vibrantes y brillantes! Mientras que el Jesús sin vida tuvo que ser bajado a la tumba después de Su muerte en la cruz, ahora vemos a Cristo salir de la tumba por Su propia fuerza y poder. ¡Vemos a Jesús empujando la losa de piedra que cubría la tumba con una mano y sali-endo de la tumba! Este poderoso Señor Resucitado ya no está atado a los lienzos blancos. No, Cristo resucita-do está lleno de poder y fuerza. En el arte de Reni-assance, el rojo simbolizaba la realeza, el alto estatus social, el poder y el prestigio. ¡En el día de la Resurrec-ción, por lo tanto, no es ninguna sorpresa o accidente que el Cristo Resucitado lleva una túnica roja brillante de esplendor y majestad, y Él tiene una bandera roja de valor y victoria! Después de mirar al Señor Resucitado en medio de la escena, miré a continuación las figuras de los cinco guardias parados alrededor de la tumba, medio dormi-dos, y vislumbré un detalle que me intrigó. En la esquina inferior derecha de la pintura, debajo de un soldado durmiente, hay un tronco de árbol. ¿Por qué incluiría Koerbecke un árbol que fue cortado? El árbol cortado, bajo el soldado, representa la muerte de Cristo. También leemos en el Antiguo Testamento, "porque de un árbol hay esperanza, si se corta, que brotará de nuevo y que sus tiernos brotes no cesarán" (Job 14: 7). Este corte del árbol es Cristo. Dios es victorioso sobre la muerte. ¡Trataron de sacar a Jesús de la tierra de los vivientes, pero Él resucitó! Al celebrar la gloriosa Resur-rección de Cristo, las palabras de San Pablo en su Carta a los Romanos llenen nuestros oídos y corazones de alegría: "Sabemos que Cristo resucitado de los muertos ya no muere; La muerte ya no tiene poder sobre él. En cuanto a su muerte, murió al pecado de una vez por todas; En cuanto a su vida, vive para Dios "(Romanos 6: 9-10). En la temporada de Pascua, cantamos alegremente la Regina Coeli con la Santísima Madre: "Reina del Cielo, ¡alengrense, alelu-ya! ¡Por El por quien hiciste merito para sostener, aleluya, ha resucitado, como él dijo, aleluya! "¡Que tengan una Pascua muy bende-cida y feliz! ¡San José, ruega por nosotros! ¡Vivat Jesús! ¡Viva Jesús!

CHRYSTUS ZMARTWYCHWSTAŁ! ALLELUJA! ALLELUJA! ZAPRAWDĘ ZMARTWYCHWSTAŁ! ALLELUJA! ALLELUJA! Wesołego Alleluja! Świętujemy dzisiaj Zmartwychwstanie Jezusa! W zeszłym tygodniu pokazałem Wam smutny obraz pod tytułem: „Złożenie Chrystusa do grobu”, autorstwa niemieckiego artysty: Johanna Koerbecke'a. Dzisiaj chciałbym Wam pokazać kolejny obraz tego samego malarza (teraz w o wiele radośniejszym klimacie), zatytułowany: „Zmartwychwstanie” (1457 rok). Ten obraz kontynuuje zeszłotygodniowy wątek związany z pochówkiem Mesjasza. Być może pamiętacie, że w centrum poprzedniego dzieła Koerbecke umieścił duży, kamienny grobowiec. Taki sam grobowiec znajduje się na obrazie Zmartwychwstania. Jednakże wydarzenia wokół tego grobu są dziś, w

Niedzielę Wielkanocną, diametralnie różne. Jezus znajdujący się dzisiaj przy grobie jest zupełnie inny od tego, który był przy grobie w Wielki Piątek. Poprzednio, martwe, blade i owinięte płótnem Ciało Jezusa składali do grobu trzej mężczyźni. Teraz spójrzcie jaka zmiana! Chrystus jest żywy i pełen wigoru! Gdy Chrystus był martwy, artysta posłużył się się przygnębiającą paletą barw. Teraz jednak, Zmartwychwstały Pan oraz wszystko wokół Niego tętni kolorem i życiem! Martwe Ciało Jezusa musiało zostać złożone do grobu. Zmartwychwstały wychodzi jednak z niego o własnych siłach. Widzimy Pana odsuwającego płytę nagrobną jedną ręką! Syn Boży, w pełni Swojej potęgi i chwały, nie jest już obwiązany płótnami. W Dniu Zmartwychwstania wcale nie dziwi fakt, iż Jezus ma na Sobie czerwone szaty, zaś w ręce dzierży czerwony sztandar zwycięstwa. W sztuce Renesansu, czerwień była bowiem symbolem królewskiego majestatu, potęgi i prestiżu. Patrząc na Jezusa stojącego pośrodku obrazu, spojrzałem też na postacie pięciu śpiących strażników, trzymających wartę przy grobie. Zauważyłem dzięki temu pewien intrygujący szczegół. W dolnym lewym rogu obrazu, pod jednym ze śpiących żołnierzy, znajduje się pień ściętego drzewa. Aby zrozumieć, dlaczego artysta namalował coś takiego, musimy przypomnieć sobie starotestamentowe proroctwa o cierpiącym Mesjaszu. Oto cytat z Księgi Jeremiasza (11:19): „powzięli przeciw mnie zgubne plany: Zniszczmy drzewo wraz z jego mocą, zgładźmy go z ziemi żyjących, a jego imienia niech już nikt nie wspomina!”. Ścięte drzewo jest właśnie metaforą śmierci Pana. Z kolejnego cytatu (Księga Hioba 14:7) dowiadujemy się, że: „Drzewo ma jeszcze nadzieję, bo ścięte, na nowo wyrasta, świeży pęd nie obumrze”. Tym drzewem jest Chrystus. Bóg przezwyciężył śmierć. Próbowali Go zgładzić z ziemi żyjących, lecz Chrystus zmartwychwstał! Świętując wspaniałe Zmartwychwstanie Pańskie, radujmy się słowami z Listu św. Pawła do Rzymian (6:9-10): „Wiemy bowiem, że Jezus, powstawszy z martwych, już nigdy nie umrze – śmierć nie ma nad Nim żadnej władzy. Umarł tylko raz, aby pokonać grzech, a teraz żyje dla Boga”. W okresie wielkanocnym, śpiewamy antyfonę „Regina Coeli” na cześć Najświętszej Maryi: „Królowo nieba, wesel się, alleluja, albowiem Ten, któregoś nosić zasłużyła, alleluja, Zmartwychwstał, jak powiedział, alleluja!” Życzę Wszystkim błogosławionych i radosnych Świąt Wielkanocnych! Święty Józefie, módl się za nami!

Congratulations to all our winners and thank you to all who supported our Raffle. Congratulations! 8th Grader, Diego Yanez, for finishing 2nd in the American Legion Americanism Essay Contest. The question this year was, "What does the American Flag Mean to Me?" Diego's essay focused on how our flag represents never-ending opportunity, and that it, along with our nation, has been refashioned many times. Diego was invited to read his essay at the Robert E. Coulter, Jr. American Legion Post 1941 in LaGrange. Way to go Diego! Registration 2017 – 2018 – Our open registration has begun. LADIES OF THE ROSARY NEWS BEADS ... Monthly Mass The Ladies of the Rosary gather on the first Sunday of the month at the 7:30 a.m. Mass to attend Mass as a group.
