TO TOrLEY CHURCHMEN.There is a need [or ri church mens group in our parish; it

would give power and action in our corporate church life. With itthere would be 8.U atmosphere ofhrotherhoorl-and fellowship. Thiscan become an actual reality by gathering together for social inter-course, discussions, Icdurettes on Church and Prayer Book historyand the work of our C of E at home and overseas. These meetingswould be for the winter months only, There would be no binding'regulations, rules, entrance fees, hut a collection at the meetings topay incidental expenses. The social evening would be one of goodfellowship once a month, say the first Tuesday. Games could beplayed such as chess, draughts, dominoes, darts and music for thereisa piano. Any churchman 15 years of age and upwards would bewelcome a" a grouper. It is a splendid opportunity for our youngmen to get together-e-yes grown up men call bring' their pipes. Letus make a start-Tuesday Oct. 5th. is suggested for the first meetingin Totlev Schoolroom at 7-30. Re lectures etc, more particu-lars in nextmonths leaflet, Criticise and pulverise the schema if youwish but.do let us as churchmenget together for a bit more brother-hood and fellowship and take our part in the development of God'swork in our parish. It would be a great help if any churchman in theparish would give the Vicar or myself an opportunity for enlistingthem as members of the group. ARTHUR J. FOULSTONE

    VICAR'S LETTER.

My Dear Friends,This leaflet will find its way into a little more

than 800 houses and therdore it provides me with an opportunityof speaking to a very large audience but I want you if you will, toimtlgine that this letter is addressed to you personally. Of courseif the contents of it do not apply to you, then please forgive me andtake it that it was meant for someone else. First of all I want totalk to you quite simply about your religion. Not just about reli-gion in general but about your own.

Are you quite sure you have got a religionandif so what is it r. What difference does it make to your way oflife? Probably yon have been baptized. If so, you were thenmade a Christian· a member of the ChristiRn·~hurch. Would ithave mattered much or mack any difference if you had NEVERbeen baptized. After all there is not 1T1lIchpoint in becoming a lifemember of a society and then forgetting all about it. Or perhapsyou once were a practisil1g Christian pel haps yon iitknded SlIn(laySchool as a child and received the gift of Confirl11ation ami wentto church on Sundays. If so, have you since aiveu up your religion?Or ar e you 'one of those who call themselves Cbrislians and Church-men but think it doesn't matter whether they exercise their member-ship or not?

H you want to get ll1arri,·d would yon go !o theregistrar or would you claun the privilege of tlie Cbun:h's blessing? If von have no use for the Church's blessi,l>! on the other days ofvour EIe it is a bit of a farce to hot her ahout it all vuur wetldil'fs day.Or would you hring your chiId to be h;ljltized? ',Vhat use is thaiun1r~ss you mean to bring him IIp in the full practice of the Cburch\;faith? Unlt'~ss you are a real humbug you must :ulmitthat it wouldbe better to Ica ve theso thinp;~ undone if they are to be allowed to meannothing at all. You Clt:1TlOt have it both wnys Christ alway ashfor nllor notbing. And please don't tell me tile old tale about howyou can worship God so much better in the open air than you callin church. You know as well ;15 I do 111at "Ill practice it just doesn'tw or k. Don't tell me that all these people who stay away fromChurch are tllinLinf( about God i\lHl worsl1ipping Him. YOII knowit is not true and never will be true. They arc thinking: of them-selves and their own enjoyment and of nothing' else whatever.

It needs real effort to think of God-it needs realeffort to pray and worship and it is a fact that unless we make thiseffort amI go on making it we lose toucb with God and forget Hisclaims on us and indeed His very Existence. Admit frankly andhonestly, if it is true, that you have !-tiven up religion and lost yoursense of the things eternal and if you would regain it you must startafresh on the old well trodden ways.
