QUALITYMANAGEMENT

At MAG the safety of all our operators is key in the successful running of the airside operation and because of this, SI 03-2019 has been created and will be added into the next edition of the Aerodrome Manual.

Therefore, paragraph 4 has been added to ASI 27- ‘Safe Approach to Arriving Aircraft’.

All personnel must ensure they remain clear of the aircraft footprint (defined by the red box in the image below) until the following actions have been completed: – All aircraft engines have fully spooled down.

– Aircraft anti-collision lights have been switched off.

– All aircraft chocks have been deployed. – All safety cones have been deployed within the area of the aircraft where GSE are intended to be positioned. These safety requirements (other than

the deployment of safety cones and aircraft chocks) also apply to rear of stand road users.

Only ground personnel who are involved in the chocking, coning, headset and GPU attachment process are exempt from this policy, along with MA Fire and Rescue personnel when necessary.

Any personnel found entering the aircraft footprint outside of the stated requirements may be subject to the Airside Infringement Policy.

If you have any questions, please contact Airfield Operations on extension X3331.

Attaining ISO 9001:2015 certification for the Airfield Safety & Compliance and Airfield Planning Team has been a great experience and achievement for myself and the wider team, who have demonstrated support and commitment throughout the journey.

Quality is recognised by our regulators and working in conjunction with our current Safety Management System will provide a solid foundation and framework that will provide further assurance with a risk-based approach, whilst meeting our requirements,

A possible first for an Airfield Operations team and the Aerodrome SMS.

As of Friday 1st March, ‘19, a 1-month programme of works to carry out the commissioning of the new fuel hydrant system for Terminal 2’s pier 1 will begin. The work is scheduled to be completed by Sunday 31st March ’19.

The hydrant shutdowns will take place on the nights of the 5th (19:15-05:00hrs local) 6th and 7th March ’19 (21:00-05:00 hrs local).

All T2 pier served stands (201-211) and remote stands 66-74, 80-84 and 231-243 will not have access to fuel in the above dates and times. Instead, aircraft requiring fuel will have to be parked on a remote stand that has fuelling available.

Make sure to take extra care when conducting tows and if you have any questions, please contact the Airfield Duty Manager on X3331.

Monday 18th February evening into Tuesday 19th morning saw the EasyJet ground handling contract transition from Menzies to DHL.

This was a huge undertaking for everyone involved and has definitely been our most complex ground handling contract change to date. Colleagues from Terminals, Airfields Operations, Pass Office, Assets, MAG Property and many more have been involved in this transition. First wave departures on Tuesday went without a glitch, achieving 100% on time departure!! Well done team! A special mention must go out to Janet Tideswell who has lived and breathed this project for months!

WAYNE GLYNN: WE ARE SAFETY GOLD AWARD

IN 03-2019 TRIAL OF NEW AIRSIDE OPERATOR ARMBAND

VIP NOMINATION

Throughout February and March, Pier 1 associated aircraft parking stands will be formally handed over to MAG so they can conduct Operational Trials before the operation goes live. After the formal handover the apron and stand facilities will be officially classified as ‘Airfield’ and will be subject to all terms and conditions of operation, as per the Aerodrome Manual 2019, part E, policy 47.

Until the current work in progress and operational trials are completed (circa April 2019) the Pier 1 stands will be subject to passenger and aircraft trials with stand possession procedures in place to ensure safety to all those who are accessing the area.

If access is required to the Pier 1 associated stands for approved trials, a formal request must be sent to Airfield Control X3695 specifying the stands required along with appropriate commencement dates/times and the overall duration. The MAPS 1 procedure must be followed with all trials being co-ordinated with Airfield Operations and the confirmation of stand possession need to be sought and approved by the Airfield Duty Manager (ADM) X3331 before trials begin.

If you have any questions or require any more information, please contact the ADM on X3331.

Wayne Glynn, Aviator Ramp Operative, was awarded a We Are Safety gold award for alerting the flight-deck of an inbound TCX aircraft that the aircraft was rolling forward due the park brake not being applied after docking. His quick thinking and prompt actions saved the day!

Wayne was also presented with £100 of love top shop vouchers with his award.

Great to see orange armbands being worn by Jet2.com and DHL airside operators. Please offer any operational support and assistance to those new working airside.

ASCO Declan Fielding spotted that a suitcase from a Vueling aircraft parked on 44L had came off trailer and rolled towards the number 1 engine of the taxiing Emirates A380 (A6-EUB).

EK was instructed to stop immediately by Declan on Ground and he positioned his vehicle in such a way to prevent ingestion.

Declan’s quick thinking prevented what would have been an extremely serious incident. Well done Declan!
