*SELF-MOTIVATION*HIGH EXPECTATIONS*FOCUS*INTEREST IN THE OUTDOORS*TECHNICAL SKILLS*LEADERSHIP ABILITY*CITIZENSHIP*Scouting is to help youth become better people and to fully realize their potential as they move into the future.

Scouting is a game, but also has a purpose. Lets discuss what is the game, and what is the purpose.

A merchant man had been seeking the perfect pearl for many years. When he found one he thought to be perfect, he would notice a small dimple or stain when examined under the microscope. One day he had finally found it. He was so happy he wanted to share it with everyone. He had the finest craftsman carve a superb jewel box and line it with blue velvet. He put his pearl of great price on display so others could share his treasure. He watched as people came to see it. Soon he turned away in sorrow. It was the box they admired, not the pearl.

*The AIMS of Scouting- its purposes- are to help youth become better people and to fully realize their potential as they move into the future.

The GAME or Method part of scouting is what we most often see. Young people taking part in outdoor adventures, service projects, meetings, advancement efforts. The Scouting program uses the methods to guide its members toward worthwhile aims.

The methods are like the box where that is what most people look at as far as the Cub Scout and Boy Scout programs. They seem to look past the pearl, or what these programs are trying to instill in our youth.

When we take the boys camping, are we taking them just to go camping, or do you include a purpose that will help to achieve the aims or pearl of scouting?**The METHODS of Cub Scouting*The Ideals*The Den *Advancement Plan*Family Involvement*Activities*Home and Neighborhood-centered*The Uniform

    *The METHODS ofBoy Scouting and Varsity Scouting*The Ideals*Patrol/Squad Method*Advancement*Association with Adults*Outdoor Activities*Personal Growth*Leadership Development*The Uniform*The METHODS of Venturing*The Ideals*Group Activities*Recognition*Adult Association*High Adventure*Teaching Others*Leadership*The Aims of Scouting*Growth in moral strength and character*Participating Citizenship*Development in physical, mental and emotional fitness

*By using the Methods of scouting to achieve the Aims of scouting we build a solid foundation called the ideals of scouting-the values upon which all of Scoutings programs are built.Cub Scout Promise and Law of the PackScout Oath and LawVarsity Scout OathVenturing Oath
