6-9am Dawn’s rosy light is filtering through your

curtains, the lush foliage is a-chatter

with birdsong and it’s the perfect time to

embark on a morning game drive. Your expert guide and

tracker greets you with a steaming cup of coffee or tea

and briefs you on the myriad of wildlife you can expect

to view. Grab your camera and binoculars, board your

all-wheel-drive safari vehicle, and begin your search

for the notorious Big Five — that is, the elephant, lion,

rhinoceros, buffalo and leopard once so-prized by the

early big game hunters — and a menagerie of other

fascinating game and birds. Soon, you are capturing

photos of a lifetime: lumbering hippos as they waddle into

their favorite watering holes for the day, graceful gazelle

9am With all the excitement of spotting wildlife

butler and safari lodge staff are always at

DAY 13 Okavango Delta As dawn breaks and the animals begin to stir, gather your camera gear and join your ranger to begin exploring the annually flooded grasslands surrounding your plains camp, and beyond into the drier plains. Listen for the trumpeting of a large herd of elephants passing through or the lion’s threatening roar as it guards its resident pride. Count the giraffes, impalas, sable antelopes, kudus, zebras, reedbuck, wildebeest and Cape buffalo, and spot the red lechwe, an antelope

that inhabits the fringes of the delta. After the day cools down, venture out again to look for endangered wild dogs lazing with their pack, and any leopards, cheetah and African wildcat prowling the shadows. (BLD)

DAY 14 Okavango Delta Venture by motorboat or canoe to explore the prolific waterways today, watching out for the bellowing hippos and lazing crocodiles. Bring your binoculars to zoom in on the Pel’s fishing owl, the wattled crane

or chirping cisticola, among the exceptional bird life. Relax until your evening safari where your ranger will spotlight the nocturnal animals. In the KNOWDID YOU KNOW an elephant usually drinks over 52 gallons of water each day? They use their trunks as portable showers… with variable pressure settings. An elephant is typically right or left-tusked. The dominant tusk, called the master tusk, is more worn-down, and is often shorter with a rounder tip. Watch for the prized appearance of the Pel’s Fishing Owl as well as African skimmers, the Slaty Egret, the

DAY 4 Okavango Delta Take wing to your next delta camp for a contrasting wildlife viewing experience. After lunch, meet your expert ranger for an afternoon game drive and orientation to the area’s varying landscapes ranging from savannah to floodplains, and its diverse flora and fauna. yourself in the sights and sounds of the bush. DAY 6 Samburu / Arusha, Tanzania Cross the border with a flight to Arusha, where you’ll be met on arrival. Continue on to your lodge, a peaceful retreat tucked within a large coffee plantation. Relax as you please. (BD)

DAY 7 Arusha / Ngorongoro Crater Explore magical Lake Manyara, with thousands of pink-hued flamingos lining its shore and some 400 species of birds spotted here. Your ranger will diligently seek out the park’s unusual tree-climbing Manyara lions and blue monkeys to round out your photo gallery. Continue on to your beautiful lodge near the Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (BLD)

DAY 8 Ngorongoro Crater Descend some 2,000 feet to explore Ngorongoro’s sprawling crater floor. Designated as one of the densest concentrations of game in Africa, the crater is home to numerous

herds of elephants, large prides of lions, leaping gazelles and countless zebras and wildebeest. Watch the amusing antics at the hippo pool as you enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to your lodge. DAY 9 Ngorongoro Crater / Serengeti After a morning game drive and picnic lunch, visit Olduvai Gorge, site of the Leakey family’s archeological excavations which unearthed fossils of man’s earliest known ancestors. Continue on to the great Serengeti, the “endless plains” in the Maasai language, where more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thompson’s gazelle and a quarter million zebra gather for their annual migration, attracting large predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. DAY 10 Serengeti Depart during the early splendor of an African sunrise for your first

game drive of the day. Collect a gallery of striking images as the morning unfolds: a lioness relaxing after her morning hunt, alert elephants guarding their young and ungainly herds of wildebeest grazing alongside zebra and gazelle. Relax at camp while the day cools down before setting out for your afternoon game drive. (BLD)

DAY 11 Serengeti During morning and afternoon game viewing activities, your ranger continues to lead you to spectacular locations of outstanding natural beauty where you can observe the wildlife at your leisure. DAY 1 Arrive Arusha, Tanzania With a warm welcome upon your arrival, you’ll be transferred to your delightful accommodations in Arusha, northern Tanzania’s safari capital.

DAY 2 Arusha / Tarangire National Park Begin your journey with a short city tour of Arusha, one of East Africa’s fastest growing cities. You will continue on to Tarangire National Park. Upon settling into your authentic safari lodging, gather your camera gear and meet your expert ranger to set out for a late afternoon game drive. Tonight, immerse yourself in the African safari experience as you look out upon the

DAY 3 Tarangire National Park Join your expert safari ranger for morning and afternoon game viewing activities in the Tarangire / Manyara corridor. Tarangire National Park, with its river providing the only permanent water supply on Maasai land during the dry season, supports a great diversity of wildlife – up to 6,000 elephants, giraffe, buffalo, lesser kudu, zebra, lion, leopard and cheetah. Its grassy acacia woodlands and gigantic baobabs silhouetted against the sky make for spectacular vistas. (BLD)

DAY 4 Tarangire National Park / Ngorongoro Set out early this morning for Lake Manyara. The thousands of pink-hued flamingos lining its shore

provide the perfect introduction to Tanzania’s birdlife — more than 400 species have been recorded here. Large herds of elephant roam the park and your ranger will diligently seek out the park’s unusual tree-climbing Manyara lions, blue monkeys and countless wildlife photo opportunities. Continue on to your lodging for the next two nights, perfectly situated to explore the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Ngorongoro Crater, home to one of the densest concentrations of game in Africa. DAY 5 Ngorongoro Crater Descend some 2,000 feet to explore the crater floor of this extinct, collapsed volcano. You’ll be in awe of the profusion of wildlife concentrated here. Zoom in on the elephants ambling

along well-worn tracks. Listen for the roaring lion guarding its large pride. Gazelle quietly graze, surrounded by zebra and wildebeest, and you might spot the endangered rhino feeding down by the lake. Enjoy a picnic lunch before returning to your camp. In Search of The Great Migration

DAY 6 Ngorongoro / Serengeti National Park Take a short flight and drive to the great Serengeti — “endless plains” in the Maasai language. While the exact timing is difficult to predict, here is where more than two million wildebeest, half a million Thompson’s gazelle and a quarter million zebra gather for annual migrations, attracting large predators such as lion, leopard, cheetah and hyena. With the park as your safari base, your next three days will be filled with morning and afternoon game viewing activities when the animals are most active. Your authentic lodging is ideally situated near the herds’ migration paths. (BLD)

DAY 7 Serengeti Depart during the early morning splendor of an African sunrise for your first game drive of the day. Negotiating roads and tracks, your expert ranger transports you to a world of primal savagery combined with peaceful vistas. Collect a gallery of thrilling images as the morning unfolds: a lioness relaxing after her morning hunt; alert elephants carefully guarding their young as they traverse the bush; a startled warthog running with tail erect; ungainly herds of wildebeest grazing alongside zebra. DAY 8 Serengeti During morning and afternoon game viewing activities, your ranger continues to lead you to stunning vistas and locations of outstanding natural beauty where you are able to observe the wildlife quietly and at your leisure. DAY 9 Arusha / Depart Celebrate the glorious sunrise and the sounds of the bush awakening as you savor your last morning in Tanzania. After a short flight to Arusha, you’ll enjoy lunch and a place to relax at a day room reserved for your use at a charming lodge. This afternoon, join your expert ranger for a game drive in an open safari vehicle and look out for some of the biggest

DAY 3 Amboseli Awaken with the sounds of birdsong for an early morning game drive, an ideal time for photographing Mt. Kilimanjaro and the shimmering mirages around the dry lake beds. Bird watchers will delight as they count off the many species of heron or spot the uncommon Pygmy Falcon among some 300 varieties of birds. Later, join an expert Maasai guide for a walk outside the park and learn more about the ancient culture of his proud people. DAY 4 Amboseli / Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Fly off to Lewa Wildlife Conservancy on Mt. Kenya’s slopes, for a contrasting safari experience. Meet your expert ranger for a game drive and start exploring the conservancy’s diverse ecosystems. You’ll be delighted by the varied wildlife that can be spotted here — 70 different mammals and some 350 species of birds. Be sure to watch for the endangered (but plentiful here!) DAY 5 Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Spend the day viewing wildlife on game drives or insightful walks through the grasslands. You’ll learn more about The Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a former cattle ranch that was converted to the first not-for-profit conservation

program in East Africa, including a rhino sanctuary where you can find over 50 black and nearly 50 white rhinos. Unwind poolside in the shade of the gardens, and after a fine dinner, watch the equatorial constellations reveal themselves before you tuck in for the night. (BLD)

DAY 6 Lewa Wildlife Conservancy Sync up with the rhythms of the wilderness and observe the wildlife at a leisurely pace. Take a closer look at the smaller animals and insects on a nature walk. We recommend you obtain insurance covering various risks of interruption, illness, injury, loss of property and the like.Passport/Visa/Inoculation/Insurance: Passports are required for international travel. Visas are required for travel to many areas. Many countries also have immunization requirements. Some countries require foreign visitors to have valid medical insurance on entry. Requirements vary by country and can change. You should obtain up-to-date information from authorities of the countries involved. African Travel shall not be liable for delay or denial of entry due to inability to satisfy entry requirements or entry author-ity’s questioning or refusal to accept proof of entry requirements. Guests with Disabilities: African Travel welcomes guests with special needs or disabilities. Guest must inform us in advance, as early as possible, of any physical, medical or other special need that requires accommodating. We will make reasonable modifications to our policies, practices and procedures when necessary, unless doing so will fundamentally alter the nature of the services. Safety of Yourself and Others: Guest must ensure you and those under your care are medically and physically able to travel. African Travel may impose safety requirements. We may exclude from participating in travel or from any activity, an individual whose participation poses a direct threat to health or safety that cannot be eliminated by reasonable modification of our policies, practices or procedures or by the provision of auxiliary aids and services. A decision to exclude an individual will be based on an individualized assessment based on reasonable judgment that relies on current medical evidence or the best available objective evidence to determine the nature, duration and severity of the risk, probability that potential injury will occur and whether reasonable modifications of policies, practices or procedures will lower the risk.

African Travel does not provide personal devices (such as wheelchairs, hearing aids or prescription eye glasses) or services of a personal nature (such as eating, dressing or toileting). A traveler who requires services of a personal nature (eating, dressing or toileting, as examples) should consider bringing a companion to provide the assistance and understand that other travelers and staff will not be available for such purpose.

We do not employ or provide medical personnel. Any needed medical attention must be sought at a local facility, if available, at guest’s expense. African Travel is not responsible or liable for loss or cost incurred due to unavailability of medical services, inability to obtain or delay in obtaining medical services if available, medical services obtained, or level of care or services received.

Some guided vacations can include rough terrain, walking over unpaved or uneven pavement, steps, locations which may not be easily accessible or accessible by wheelchair, bumps, and other challenging conditions.

For various parts of the travel, arrangements are made with carriers, hotels and other independent suppliers. They are independent entities which African Travel does not control. We cannot assure disability access or accommodations outside the United States.Limits of responsibility: african travel, your travel agent, tour operators and subcontractors of services act only as agents for the supplier regarding your travel, whether by plane, car, motorcoach, ship, railroad or other transportation mode, and shall not be liable for injury, damage, loss, additional expense, accident, delay, schedule change or other irregularity. Any of these, and other events, may occur, whether due to use of or defect in a vehicle, act of war, insurrection, civil uprising, military action, strike, weather, disaster, terrorist act, act of god, act of government, or other act or incident or occurrence or omission, in either the country of origin, destination, area of passage or elsewhere, or for other reason, or due to acts or default of any company or person involved in arranging the tour, or in the chain of supply. All such injury, damage, loss, additional expense, accident, delay, schedule change or other irregularity will be at the risk and cost of the guest. Changes: When services and accommodations described in this brochure cannot be supplied or the itinerary is changed due to delays or other causes of any kind or nature beyond African Travel’s control, African Travel may seek to supply comparable services, accommodations and itineraries. There shall be no refund in these circumstances. African Travel reserves the right to make changes to the itinerary and/or cancel any tour, and shall have no liability whatsoever from or relating to such adjustments or cancellation. African Travel shall not be responsible for loss or damage to luggage, before, during or after the tour. Airline Contract: The passenger contract in use by airlines is between the airline and the purchaser of the ticket. Airline prices are based on prices in effect prior to or at the time of printing this document or at the time of the price quote, inclusive of fuel surcharges and other airline, airport and related charges and taxes, and are subject to change without notice until the time of purchase.

Additional RisksAdditional risks and dangers may arise including, but not limited to, hazards of traveling in undeveloped areas, hazards of travel by boat, train, automobile, aircraft and other means of conveyance, forces of nature, political unrest, other unrest, hazardous local customs and practices, differing levels of sanitation, differing standards of safety, risks associated with water, food, plants, insects and differing animal regulation, accident or illness in areas lacking means of rapid evacuation or medical facilities, and acts of national and local governments and unrest and acts of others against governments. These risks are not an exhaustive list but are ex-amples of many kinds of risks. You are voluntarily participating in these activities with the knowledge that there are significant dangers involved, and you hereby agree to accept any and all risks. As lawful consideration for the agreement with african travel to participate in such trips and activities you agree you will not make a claim against african travel or its personnel or sue for bodily injury, emotional trauma, death, property loss or damage or other loss, cost or expense, however caused, as a result of or related to your contracting for, traveling to or from, or in any and every other way participating in the tour. You release african travel and its personnel from any and all claims, known or unknown, arising from contracting for, traveling to or from, and in any and every way participating in a tour. This release of liability and assumption of risk agreement is entered into on behalf of you and all members of your family and party, also including minors accompanying you. This agreement also binds your heirs, legal representatives and assigns. International Treaties: Transportation companies, airlines etc. are not to be held responsible for any act, omission or event during the time guests are not on board planes, transportation or conveyances. We rely on international conventions which may apply to services provided by us, our suppliers or agents with respect to any claim of any nature brought by you against us as a re-sult of the provision of the services. International conventions which apply may, depending on the circumstances, include: Warsaw Convention 1929, (as amended by Hague Protocol and Montreal Protocol) in relation to air travel, or Montreal Convention; the Berne Convention for rail travel; Athens Convention 1974 for carriage by sea; the Geneva Convention for carriage by road and the Paris Convention 1962 for Hotels. We are to be regarded as having all the benefits of these conventions on limiting our liability in relation to any claim for death, injury, loss, damage and delay to guests and luggage. We try to ensure accuracy of information at the time of printing. However error is possible. African Travel shall not be liable for printing or typographic errors, or human errors or errors arising from unforeseen or other circumstances.

These terms cannot be varied except in writing by an officer of African Travel. If any portion of this Agreement is unenforceable, the remaining portions shall remain in full force and effect.

Any litigation involving or relating to this contract, any brochure or any as-pect of your trip shall be brought only in a court of competent jurisdiction in the County of Los Angeles, State of California, USA, and California law (applicable to relationships and acts and omissions occurring entirely within California and thus without regard for California’s principles of conflicts of law and/or principles for applying law of other states or nations) will apply to any and all such disputes.

Passengers who purchase from within California: This transaction is covered by the California Travel Consumer Restitution Fund (TCRF) if the passenger is located in Cal-ifornia at the time of payment. Eligible passengers may file a claim with TCRF if the pas-senger is owed a refund of more than $50 for transportation or travel services which the seller of travel failed to forward to a proper provider or such money was not refunded to you when required. The maximum amount which may be paid by the TCRF to any one passenger is the total amount paid on behalf of the passenger to the seller of travel, not to exceed $15,000. A claim must be submitted to the TCRF within 12 months after the scheduled completion date of the travel. A claim must include sufficient documen-tation to prove your claim and a $35 processing fee. Claimants must agree to waive their right to other civil remedies against a registered participating seller of travel for matters arising out of a sale for which you file a TCRF claim. Passengers purchasing from outside of California: This transaction is not covered by the California Travel Consumer Restitution Fund.

This business is a participant in United States Tour Operator’s Association’s (USTOA) Consumer Protection Deposit Plan. You may make a claim to this Plan if you are owed a refund. The Plan covers losses for transportation or travel services that were not delivered or not refunded when required. A passenger may make a claim against the plan within 12 months from when the passenger learns of the loss. USTOA’s total liability for all possible consumer claims from this seller of travel’s customers is limited to $1,000,000.
