Day 03 Friday, September 20, 2013

Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and then depart on your morning Stellenbosch Winelands Tour. Historical, glorious Stellenbosch with its Cape Dutch architecture, is the warm and wonderful heart of the Cape Winelands,

and is surrounded by stunning wine estates. It’s truly the prettiest town, home to one of the country’s prestigious universities, and you’ll love exploring the fine art galleries, the architecture, the history, and the curious and

quaint shops (time permitting).

But first, take a leisurely drive to become acquainted with the beauty of this world-renowned region, before

inducting you into the wine-making process in a fascinating cellar tour. And when the wine’s made, it needs to be tasted, so we will test and taste…and no doubt, you’ll leave with a favorite bottle or two under your arm.

Stellenbosch is arguably one of the Province’s most beautiful towns – but you will be the judge.

Nestled between towering mountains (also in the beautiful Cape Winelands) lies the magnificent Franschhoek

Valley. This is the food and wine heartland of the country, where splendid wines are produced and top chefs create international cuisine. Located here are breath-taking scenery, warm hospitality, world class cuisine and

the finest wines all combine to create lasting memories.

Enjoy lunch today at an AMAZING Vineyard on a gorgeous Wine farm. You will be served their charcuterie

selection with breads and dips (this is what they are renowned for). There will also be some of Miss Molly’s white wine, soft drinks and water available. We will then continue to Franschhoek and enjoy dessert!

Later this evening you will be taken to Gold Restaurant where you will be entertained and enjoy dinner. Gold

Restaurant is at the Gold of Africa Museum in Cape Town. Dinner is served under a huge awning structure.

There is a set menu which consists of 16 different dishes from throughout Africa. The staff brings the food to your table in African bowls and the dishes and their origins are explained. During the meal you are entertained by

beautifully attired singers and dancers. Their costumes were painstakingly researched and designed to reflect the different cultures throughout Africa. Be prepared for a vibrant evening of color, music, food, song and dance; the

perfect venue if you want to experience something that is uniquely African!

Day 04 Saturday, September 21, 2013 After breakfast this morning make your way to the jetty at the Clocktower at the Victoria &Alfred Waterfront to

board the ferry for the half hour boat ride to Robben Island for your Robben Island tour. This was where

former South African president, Nelson Mandela and other political prisoners were held. It is now a World Heritage Site with stunning views of Cape Town and Table Mountain.

For nearly 400 years Robben Island, 7½miles/12kms off the coast from Cape Town was a place of banishment,

exile, isolation and imprisonment. It was here that rulers sent those they regarded as political troublemakers,

social outcasts and the unwanted of society. During the apartheid years Robben Island became internationally known for its institutional brutality. Robben Island came to symbolize, not only for South Africa and the African

continent, but also for the entire world, the triumph of the human spirit over enormous hardship and adversity. Today, you will be escorted around the island by an ex-political prisoner, and given insight into the past and how

the human spirit triumphs.

Then after the Robben Island tour, you will be transferred for a tour up Table Mountain (weather permitting) in

a cable car (tickets provided). The revolving cable cars give stunning views over the city. The summit of Cape Town’s world-famous landmark is 1,086 meters/3563 feet above sea level and the mountain itself is a national

monument. It is covered with a wide variety of wild flowers and is the natural home of the famous silver tree. From the summit you can marvel at the awe-inspiring 360-degree view of the city.

The Fairest Cape…and it surely is! You’ll soon see for yourself where and why it earned its name. Sit back and relax, while taking a drive along the exquisite stretch of coastline known as Millionaire’s Paradise – from Camps

Bay and Clifton to the exclusive beach hamlet of Llandudno – towards the charming working harbor of Hout Bay; if you so choose, you can embark on an up-close-and-personal Seal Island cruise (your own account). Back on

Day 09 Thursday, September 26, 2013 After breakfast you will be taken on a full day Soweto Township tour followed by a visit to the Apartheid

Museum including lunch.

This morning we travel to Soweto (South Western Township), the largest black residential area in South Africa.

This “city within a city” consists of 50 suburbs and essentially acts as a labor reservoir for the greater metropolitan area of the Witwatersrand. In many ways, the story of Soweto is the story of South Africa; this is

where the seeds of South African freedom took root. The tour includes all the major points of interest, such as the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, Baragwanath taxi rank, Freedom Square, Hector Pietersen Memorial and

Nelson Mandela’s former home. This sprawling township was the scene of the tragic riots of 1976. Despite

crowded, chaotic conditions, there is a tangible sense of community in these neighborhoods which the ordered, walled suburbs lack. It is virtually impossible not to be moved by what you will witness.

Visit the Apartheid Museum and embark on a discovery of the racial segregation experienced by millions of South

Africans a mere decade ago. On entering the building you are racially classified and you see this segregation in all forms of life. The museum illustrates the rise and fall of apartheid with its large blown-up photographs, metal

cages and numerous monitors recording continuous replays of apartheid scenes. For anyone wanting to

understand and experience what South Africa was really like, a visit to the Apartheid Museum is fundamental. Excellent displays on the Soweto Uprising, ANC in exile, petty apartheid, solitary confinement, anti-apartheid

movements abroad, sport boycotts – culminating in the birth of a new democratic country and the inauguration of Nelson Mandela as President, and one of the most progressive constitutions in the world. Whoever you are, you

cannot but come away with a deeper understanding and appreciation of this country, its darkest days and its brightest triumphs. It is a fascinating tour, filled with tales of bravery and sadness.

Accommodation: Five (5) Star Hotel (B, L, D)

Day 10 Friday, September 27, 2013 After breakfast you will have the morning at leisure before being transferred back to Johannesburg Airport. (B)
