He constitutes createdbeings, He is the life-breath, the sourceof the seasons, the store-house of light,an offspring of Aditi, the progenitor, theSun-God, the courser in the heavens, thenourisher, the possessor of rays, thegolden, the brilliant, the One whoseenergy constitutes the seed of theuniverse and the maker of day.

11, 12, 13, 14, 15. He has seven greenhorses, is myriad-rayed, full of rays, thedestroyer of darkness, the source ofhappiness, the mitigator of suffering of Hisdevotees, the infuser of life in the lifelesscosmic egg, all-pervading and the cause ofthe creation, preservation and destructionof the universe. He is blissful by nature,the ruler of all, the bringer of day and theTeacher. A son of Aditi, He bears the fireof dissolution in His womb, is blisspersonified and all-enveloping, thedestroyer of cold, the lord of the heavens,the disperser of darkness, a master of thethree Vedas, the sender of thick showersand the friend of water. He courses swiftlyalong His own orbit, carries in Him theresolve to evolve the universe and isadorned with a circle of rays. He is death,tawny and the destroyer of all. He isomniscient, all-formed, endowed withextraordinary brilliance, coppery, thesource of all evolutes, the controller oflunar mansions, planets and stars, thecreator of all, the resplendent among thesplendid. O God, appearing in twelveforms, hail to You!

16. Hail to the eastern mountain andhail to the western mountain. Hail tothe lord of hosts of luminaries, thelord of the day.

18. Hail to the subduer of the senses,the valiant one! Hail to You asdenoted by the mystic syllable OM!Hail to the awakener of the lotus! Hailto You, the fierce one!

19. Hail to the ruler of Brahma, LordShiva and Lord Vishnu! Hail to theSun-God, the light indwelling the solarorb, the resplendent one, the devourerof all, appearing in the form of Rudra.

20. Hail to the dispeller of darkness, thedestroyer of cold, the exterminator offoes, the One whose extent is immeasur-able, the destroyer of the ungrateful, theGod who is the ruler of lights!

21. Hail to You, possessing the lusterof refined gold, the dispeller ofignorance, the architect of the universe,the uprooter of darkness, splendorincarnate, the onlooker of the world!22. The aforesaid Lord alone actuallydestroys, brings into existence andsustains all that has come into being.He radiates heat by His rays and sendsshowers.23. Planted in created beings, he remainsawake when they have fallen asleep. Nay,He Himself is the act of pouring oblationsinto the sacred fire as well as the fruitattained by those who pour such oblations.

24. Nay, He comprises the gods aswell as the sacrifices as also the fruitof sacrifices. Again, He is theSupreme Controller of activitieswhich are found in all living beings.

25. No individual celebrating theaforesaid Lord in strait, in difficulties,in the woos as well as in times of perilcomes to grief, O scion of Raghu!

26, 27. Worship the aforesaid Lord ofthe universe, the adored of gods, witha concentrated mind. Muttering thispraise three times, one will come outvictorious in combats. You will makeshort work of Ravana this moment, Omighty-armed one! Saying so, thecelebrated Sage Agastya thereuponleft in the same way as he had come.

28. Hearing this advice, Sri Rama, whowas endowed with extraordinaryenergy and had a subdued mind, foundHis grief immediately dissipated. Nay,feeling greatly delighted, He retainedthe alleluia in His memory.29, 30. Sipping water thrice andgetting purified, looking intently on theSun and repeating this prayer, theValiant One experienced supremefelicity. Seizing hold of His bow andfixing his eyes on Ravana, the heroadvanced with a view to attainingvictory. He stood vowed to kill Ravanawith an intense and all-sided effort.

31. Delighted in mind to gaze on SriRama, feeling supremely exhilaratedon perceiving the destruction ofRavana at hand, the Sun-God,standing in the midst of a host ofgods, exclaimed: "Make haste!"
