ACO SuDS Swale Inlet

Aesthetically pleasing SuDSinterface
In comparison to traditional in-situstructures and concrete headwalls, the lowprofile unit provides a natural lookinginterface between proprietary and vegetateddrainage solutions, complementing thesurrounding environment.
The consistent product appearance makesthe product ideal for phased or retrofitinstallation, and the 1 in 3 gradient profilecan be used to help construct swales tosatisfy the CIRIA C697 guidance (DesignCriteria for Swales).
Erosion protection
The surface finish and the flared outlet ofthe unit encourages water dispersion andreduces excessive flow velocities - helpingto protect the surrounding environmentfrom erosion and meeting the flow rateguidance in CIRIA C697. The ACO SuDSSwale Inlet will reduce the velocity anddistribute the flow across a footprint up to6 times that of a traditionally constructedpipe outfall.
As part of a system to manage the flowrate and volume of surface water run-off,the ACO SuDS Swale Inlet reduces therisk of localised flooding and easespressure on the drainage network.
Shallow surface water conveyance
The ACO SuDS Swale Inlet can beintegrated into any SuDS drainage schemewhere there is a requirement to managewater on or near the surface, helping tomanage surface water at its source.
Simplified installation
The one piece unit is placed into positionand can be installed using concretebedding or, alternatively secured withspiral ground anchors.
No additional on-site shuttering orformwork is required, removing the needto return to site and ensuring the finalstages of a project can be concludedquickly and without hassle.
Introduction to ACO SuDS Swale Inlet
The ACO SuDS Swale Inlet unit provides an aesthetically pleasing solution when linking proprietaryconveyance drainage systems to vegetated infiltration features such as swales, basins, ponds andwater courses.
ACO SuDS Swale Inlet
The ACO SuDS Swale Inlet ismanufactured from Vienite®, ACO’s highstrength sustainable material which offersgreater durability when compared totraditional materials and structures whichare likely to deteriorate in service. Theproperties of the material allow virtuallyno water absorption giving protectionagainst frost and freeze-thaw cycles, thusmaintaining the long term performance ofthe unit.
ACO SuDS Swale Inlet is available asstandard in three colours to suit projectrequirements: natural, grey and black.
An optional textured finished can also beapplied to the unit if required.
When installed in applications thatrequire a greater degree of protectionsuch as schools or playing fields, anoptional stainless steel grating can beapplied to the upper inlet area to protectpedestrians and maintenance equipment.
The ACO SuDS Swale Inlet simplifiesinspection, with easier identification ofblockages, and maintenance proceduresare straightforward due to the simplified, consistent design of the outlet.

51.0 Ground conditions:
The Customer should ensure that theground conditions are suitable for theproposed installation detail. Engineeringadvice may be necessary.
2.0 Watertight joints:
Where a secure watertight joint isrequired between the pipework and theSuDS Swale Inlet unit, a suitableproprietary sealant should be used.
3.0 Surface protection
The installer should ensure that theadjacent ground level is higher than theSuDS Swale Inlet unit to avoid damage tothe unit during installation or mowingactivities.
4.0 Optional mesh grating and groundanchors
These are available for retrofit and typicalinstallations. The anchors are installed byknocking them into the ground throughthe holes in the units; see detail A.
5.0 Handling
Please ensure suitable safe liftingtechniques are used when positioningand installing the unit.
