Curriculum Proposal System
Steps to our solution:
1. Define all types of course proposals
2. Define steps of procedure for each type of proposal -- that is, the flow chart
Curriculum Proposal System
Each step in the flow chart became one or more pages in the curriculum tracking system.
Curriculum Proposal System
While preparing a proposal to modify or delete a course, the REPORTS feature can search Banner for all references to the course.
Thus, one can identify which departments to correspond with concerning the proposed change.
Curriculum Proposal System
Links to reference materials are available in the REFERENCE feature.
• Curriculum Handbook• List of Majors taken from Banner• List of Commonly Named Courses
Curriculum Proposal System
The SEARCH feature enables multiple types of searches:
• Tracking ID• Course designator• Review status• Proposal type• College• Effective Term• Curriculum Council Rep.• Category• Submitted dates
Curriculum Proposal System
At each step of the process, work flowelectronically routes the proposal to the next decision point.
The system automatically generates e-mail reminders to prod action, so the proposal cannot get lost on someone’s desktop.
Curriculum Proposal System
Our legacy procedure was:
• Cumbersome• Unresponsive and slow• Error ridden – lost papers

Curriculum Proposal System
Our redesigned automated procedure:
Increases efficiency --• Uses electronic data entry• Provides easy, electronic access to
reference sources• Requires proposals to be complete before
they will be transmitted• Saves the time of at least one full-time
staff person
Curriculum Proposal System
Our redesigned automated procedure:
Assures accountability –• Work flow with automated e-mail
reminders keeps the proposals moving• Review Status feature shows person
who currently has the proposal
Curriculum Proposal System
Our redesigned automated procedure:
Aggregates information by –• Review status• Proposal type• College• Effective term• Curriculum Council Representative• Category
