Budget and Stewardship Committee Update for August August 2021 Actual Budget Income 29,832 35,284 Expense 28,583 27,800 Year-to-date Actual Budget Income 213,566 251,236 Expense 219,524 244,295 A Word from the Pastor Now is an exciting time at Westminster! We are setting forth our vision for the future with the hire of Mrs. Donna Maini as the new Director of Music for Westminster. You will find in this edition of the Breeze, her biography and picture. If you were in worship on July 11 th when she filled in for Barbara, then you had the privilege of hearing Donna play the organ and piano as well as seeing her direct the chancel choir. The most important thing you should know about Donna is that she truly feels called to serve Westminster and she is excited about the eclectic music ministry vision that the Worship Team has charted for us. Donnas first Sunday with us will be September 26 th . Donna comes to us with many years of experience serving in the capacity as Director of Music at First Presbyterian Church of Rome for 12 years. She has over 25 years of experience in music education. Donna will oversee our entire program of music which will include directing the chancel choir, handbell choir, and our worship band. She will also be consistently asking members of the church family to share their own musical talents during worship. So, whether you play an instrument or sing, we hope that you will be willing to assist in making worship inspiring and spiritually uplifting. Because Donna lives in Kennesaw, Georgia, most of our practices will be held on Sunday mornings and afternoons. This is quite a change for Westminster, but the Worship Team felt strongly that God has sent Donna to us for this time in our history and therefore these changes are simply part and parcel of making Gods vision a reality. The Worship Team also felt it wise to offer Donna the position on a 6 months probationary term just to ensure that the necessary changes to our schedule for practices will be manageable both for Westminster and for Donna. Another exciting thing happening at Westminster is our progress in making the Children, Worship, and Wonder program a ministry that is initiated in early 2022. Beth Williams, Jasmine Williams, Heather Davis and I, have attended a Zoom training about how to lay the foundation for the program. We are so excited that children ages 3-8 will have their own sacred worship space solely dedicated to them. We have also had a total of 12 people indicate they are interested in helping with this weekly ministry. Getting this ministry off the ground will require peoples time and talents as well as your financial commitment. We will be employing someone in the role of storyteller as recommended by the training consultant. This ensures that the storyteller prepares well and is dependably present every week. If you have an interest in this position or know someone who might be, please let Bill Byars or me know. During our Stewardship Campaign we will give you more details about the Children, Worship, and Wonder Program (CWW). I have ordered the Advent story figures and we hope to have this displayed on the communion table for you to witness first-hand how the storyteller will use the wooden figures to share the gospel with young children. CWW is a proven ministry that is attractive to families with children. After the childrens time with the pastor, they will follow the Storyteller and Greeter out of the main sanctuary Session Family Prayer List During the month of October, the Elders will be praying for the following individuals and their families: Rhonda Sizemore, Ron & Jan Smith, Jim & Kathy Smith, Gail Stieglitz, Mona Sweatt, Bill & Marye Sweitzer, Dan & Denise Sweitzer, David & Jackie Sweitzer, Rosanne Sweitzer, Wesley & Emily Sweitzer, and Tim & Sue Tarpley. Scrip Cards Please get your Scrip card orders to Susan Henley by Sunday, October 3 rd . The cards will be available on Thursday, October 7 th . into their own worship space. This enables both children and their families to experience a meaningful time of worship without distraction. These two primary initiatives: the hiring of a Director of Music and the CWW program are central to the future vision and growth of Westminster Presbyterian Church. Both have the capacity to inspire and deepen our discipleship and commitment to Christ. We will experience growth as a result and therefore these initiatives will help Westminster have a vital ministry in Floyd County for years to come. Soon you will be receiving the annual Stewardship letter in the mail where you will note the addition of these two ministries in the budget. I hope that you will prayerfully consider your financial commitment so that our budget is robust enough to support these new initiatives. You will also note in the proposed budget an increase in salary for Susan Henley, our Church Administrator and Treasurer. I have to say that Susan is a pure joy to work with. She is dedicated and conscientious. She is indeed the best staff member Ive ever had the pleasure of working alongside of in a church office. Susan has not gotten a raise since 2015. In years past a raise has been proposed for her, but due to a deficit budget it was not feasible. I hope that you will support this increase for her in the 2022 budget so that it becomes a reality. We are also redesigning our website so that folks who are looking for a church family will be inspired to visit us. The website will become more useful to members of our congregation by keeping us up to date on current activities and even make reservations possible via the site for family night suppers and other events that have been integral to the life of Westminster in the past. These are exciting times for WPC! We are growing in membership and that is fantastic! God is at work among us, and our future is filled with hope. I feel so blessed to be a part of Gods vision for this congregation. Shalom, Pastor Renee

Mission News

Westminster will again be delivering Thanksgiving Blessing Bags to our Back Pack families and several of the families who received our 7 Day Bags this summer. Watch for the list of canned and boxed items needed so all WPC folk can help prepare this special Thanksgiving blessing for our neighborhood families. Deadline - Sunday, November 14

Our service with Community Kitchen will be on October 20th. We need volunteers for the 8AM Food Preparation and 10:30AM Servers. Please see Barbara Elliott if you can help. We received an email from Presbyterian Homes of Georgia stating that they had to make the difficult decision to not collect items for Santa Claus Express this year due to the Delta variant. Westminster has always been a strong supporter of this project so it comes as a disappointment to us all that is has been cancelled for this year. However, you are encouraged to consider making a monetary gift that will be used to spread a little Christmas cheer to the skilled nursing residents. Make your check payable to Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, earmarked for Santa Claus Express and mail to: Presbyterian Homes of Georgia PO Box 926 Quitman, GA 31643

Thank you for your support!

Westminster Stewardship

Season The beginning of autumn is the traditional start to our Stewardship Season, and this year will be no different. The purpose of the Stewardship campaign is for the Session to share its vision, plans,

and ideas for Westminster for the next year (including the expenses anticipated to result), and for the congregation to show its support for the proposed work of the church in 2022 through their tithes and pledges. The four Session Teams have been hard at work evaluating their current programs and activities, determining what changes should be made for next year, and discussing new programs and activities needed at Westminster in fulfillment of our new vision for the church. This new vision for Westminster was shared with you by Pastor Renée during our recent small group discussions, with 100% support from the participants. At its September meeting, the Session approved a draft of the 2022 budget and a stewardship letter and pledge card were mailed to the congregation. Over the next four worship services, beginning on September 26th, each Team will present a Stewardship Moment to describe the continuing and new programs and activities they propose to offer during 2022. The Campaign will culminate on October 24th, Stewardship Sunday, where pledge cards will be collected from the congregation, and the results of the campaign will be announced during a luncheon at the church (if Covid protocols allow) following the service. Please keep the church in your prayers as we strive to learn God’s will for us next year.

Dan Sweitzer,

for the Stewardship Team

Meet our New Director of Music,

Donna Maini We are so happy to welcome Donna Maini to the staff of Westminster as our new Director of Music. Donna Maini is a music director, piano instructor, and adjudicator. She has worked in church music and music education for more than 25 years. Notable performances include piano concerti performed with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra, performances with the State of Alabama Ballet Company, in concert with legendary jazz artist Dave Brubeck, and the 1996 Olympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies, concerts with the US Army Band, and more. Donna received her Bachelor of Music from Samford University, graduating summa cum laude. She later earned a Master of Music from Florida State University. In addition to musical endeavors, Donna enjoys volunteer work with Mostly Mutts Animal Rescue and Meals on Wheels delivery. Donna and her husband, Keith Maini, reside in Legacy Park of Kennesaw, Georgia and are very proud of her adult sons Daniel and Alan Hester.

Other interests include being an Atlanta Braves fanatic and a member of the Slice Girls tennis team. Donna is very excited to continue the strong legacy of Westminster Presbyterian music ministry and looks forward to working with the Chancel Choir and Handbell Choir to continue that tradition while incorporating new ways to lead in worship.

Welcome Donna!

November 14, 21, 28 Please contact Susan Henley if you are willing to provide flowers for the sanctuary for one of these dates. Thank you!

Do You Hear What I Hear?

Many of you know that for some time, we have provided a system for personal assistive listening in the Sanctuary. To use this system, each Sunday you have to pick up a radio device and a set of earphones from Joe Errickson or Ken Davis at the sound board and return them at the end of the service. There is also an alternative system that uses your smartphone or tablet and your earphones (or for some of you, your hearing aids) to stream better quality sound.

To use the alternative system, you need either an Android or Apple smartphone or tablet:

1. Download the “Audio Everywhere” app from the Google Play store or from the Apple App store.

2. Join the Audio Everywhere Wi-Fi network in the Sanctuary (after you have installed the Audio Everywhere app.)

3. Open the Audio Everywhere app on your device.

4. Once the Westminster channel has been found, tap the “Tap to listen” button.

If you need help getting started, come by the sound board before the service on Sunday and Joe or Ken will be happy to help you.

Dear Westminster, My sincere thanks for the kindness and generosity from everyone at Westminster! The beautiful flowers and gift card were a very kind gesture! I am overwhelmed by the gifts from the choir! The music therapy for Caroline and support of Dijle and Yuksel are both so close to my heart and I appreciate your loving support as we move on from Westminster! You are deeply missed and we are immensely thankful and forever impacted by your loving impact on our lives!

Soli Deo Gloria! Stefanie, Courtney & Caroline Cash
