Rev. Tom Rives Pastor A Final Word from Pastor Tom….. As I am writing what will be my last GNL article, there are so many emotions running through my soul. I have had the privilege to be pastor for the greatest congregation anywhere. These last 22 years have been a joy that I cannot begin to describe. I have been blessed to work alongside some of the finest ministerial and support staff that has ever been assembled. For each of you I echo Paul’s words in his letter to the church at Philippi, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” The lay leadership here at CBC is so very special. When given a task you take the ball and run with it. “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” To the kids I got to hold in the hospital, dedicate to God, go to children’s camp with, lead in VBS, confirm a salvation experience with, baptize, give the sermon sack to, see graduate, and in some cases perform your weddings, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” For those of you I’ve married, for those I have walked with during some tough days, for those I have been involved with in mission projects, for those I have walked through the valley of the shadow of death with, and for those who have been supportive of the ministries of Carrollwood Baptist Church, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you.” Even though we are retiring, Carrollwood Baptist will remain our church home. We love all of you and are looking forward to worshipping with you. I’ve been informed that the back row is full and I am going to have to find a seat somewhere else. After our retirement on October 18th, we will take several weeks where we will be worshipping elsewhere. This is to give Pastor Joe some time to settle in as our new Senior Pastor. Speaking of Pastor Joe and Rhonda, I am thrilled that God has brought them to our church. Many of you have asked; what can we do for you as you retire or what can we do to help Pastor Joe? Here is something you can do for both of us. Start now by making Carrollwood Baptist Church a top priority in your life. First, make your time (attendance) a priority every week. Secondly, make your talents a priority (use your talents for the Lord). Thirdly, make a commitment to give sacrificially of your financial resources. My desire is to pass on to Pastor Joe a fully committed fellowship that will follow him as God leads him in the years that lie ahead. The final word must be a word of gratitude and love for Dianne, my bride of 48 years, who has been by my side each step of the way. She, along with Ashley and Brian, T.J. and Jen and of course Abbey and Riley, has been and continues to be the joy of my life. I echo the words of Paul in Philippians 3:14 “I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Until that day, “I thank my God upon every remembrance of you”

Pastor Joe begins as our Senior Pastor on Nov. 1st. He is married to Rhonda McCall Alain and has one daughter, Rachel, married to Wesley Ruth and lives in Denham Springs, LA; and two sons, Ben, who lives in Wendell, North Carolina, where he is continuing his education and serves as the Worship and Student Pastor at the Passage Church; and Caleb, who is married to Sierra and lives in Arcadia, Florida. Caleb and Sierra are expecting their first child in October 2015. Joe is a graduate of The Baptist College of Florida and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, having received both the M.Div. and Ph.D degrees. As well as pastoring, Joe has served as an adjunct faculty member of the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, served as a guest lecturer at Louisiana College, and has published several articles in the field of preaching. When he is not involved in church activities and ministries, Joe enjoys playing tennis and guitar, reading, and participating in sport rocketry.

CBC Trunk or Treat We are trying something new this year! Instead of a Harvest Festival,

we are asking families to decorate the trunk of their car and meet in the

CBC parking lot where kids will visit. You can sponsor a game at your

vehicle or simply give out candy or other treats. We will still have

our inflatables, free popcorn, snow cones and lemonade!

Join us on Sat., Oct. 31, 4-6pm.

XTREME MISSIONSXTREME MISSIONSXTREME MISSIONSXTREME MISSIONS

Boys and girls in grades 1-6 are invited to go to Apopka, FL with Ms. Amy for the Xtreme missions event on

Saturday, Oct. 17. Cost is $10 and includes lunch. They will leave the church at 7:30am and return at 5:30pm.

Crafts and Missions Morning with the Fish Company On Saturday, Sept. 26, 10am-12pm, we will have a morning of crafts and missions for girls

and ladies of all ages. Through volunteer efforts and monetary donations, the Fish

Company funds the building of orphanages around the world. They will bring some

crafts for us to help complete that will become a means by which donations can be raised and opportunities for some “make and take” crafts that will

cost $5-$10. They will also be accepting any craft or sewing materials

that you would like to donate. Sign up at the Connection Center!

GA’s Mission Fundraiser: Skipping for the Savior

The girls will present their annual missions fundraiser event on October 11 in the worship

service. This year you can pledge to sponsor them according to how many “skips” they can complete. Look for them to be collecting pledges in October.

RA Campout The Royal Ambassador boys

are going camping! They will camp at the Tampa Bay Baptist Conference Center on November 13-14. Please see Mark Boghich for more details.

October 16

Outdoor Movie

October 25 Upward Sign-ups

begin

Weather permitting, we will be

having a movie night out under the stars. So put it on your calendar

for Friday, October 16. We want to

see you there. We also want to use

this as an opportunity for you to

invite your friends.

Upward is getting ready to start.

Sign-ups will begin the end of October. The early registration will

end November 20. So get your forms in early. If you have not

volunteered in the past, I would encourage you to pray about how

you might be able to volunteer this year. It is a great opportunity to

serve and be a blessing to those who come play Upward at our church.

Sign up to let us know if you are participating at See

You At the Pole this year. We want to come stand with

you. Be sure to check at your school for what the

schedule will be. Some schools do it at different times.

If you find out that there is no event scheduled then this

would be a great time to be a leader at your school and

organize it. It is a simple but great way to make a

stand for God at your school by showing others how

important prayer is in your relationship with God.

Pastor Tom is the founding pastor of Carrollwood

Baptist Church. He, along with his wife Dianne and their children

T.J. and Ashley have had such an impact on our church families

and our ministry here in Tampa and literally around the world. We

have seen his family grow with Ashley and Brian getting married

in 1985 and T.J. and Jennifer in 1986. Then in 2008 those

twin granddaughters, Abbey and Riley came along. We want to

encourage every member and former member to make a special

effort to join us as we celebrate Pastor Tom’s and Dianne’ s lives

and ministry. It’s our chance to celebrate their retirement and to

say thank you for all they mean to each of us.
